I'm ever so slightly old . Was lucky enough to see both Bonham (79 and 80) and Carey ( 2022) Though Bonham was maybe reaching his end-game at that point,and may God rest Him, I can't help but feel that Carey is a better drummer. Genius. I have never experienced anything like Tool in Dublin 2022. I'll die happy.

For the newbies ( myself included): In live performances with Tool, Keenan has often been situated on a platform towards the rear of the stage, without a spotlight, facing the backdrop rather than the audience. Breckinridge Haggerty, the band's live video director, says that the dark spaces on stage "are mostly for Maynard". He explains, "a lot of the songs are a personal journey for him and he has a hard time with the glare of the lights when he's trying to reproduce these emotions for the audience. He needs a bit of personal space, and he feels more comfortable in the shadows." An exception, which surprised even devout Tool fans, occurred when a fan climbed on stage and attempted to hug Keenan during the band's performance of "Pushit". After dropping the fan to the ground with a gentle hip toss, Keenan, continuing to sing, wrapped himself around the man's back into a rear naked choke. He held the man without actually constricting his neck, allowing him to raise his fist in celebration. Keenan eventually turned the man to his stomach and sat on his back, where he stayed for "an uncomfortably long period of time."

Kudos to Led Zeppelin. Imagine being such a influential force of music that Tool paid YOU homage with a cover. That was the band's "Tool" growing up, for them.
@davidcastellano85775 жыл бұрын
Yup. Particularly a Zeppelin tune that remains obscure. Honestly, MJK's vocal treatment is preferable to Plant's. I always loved this tune, but I found the vocals out-of-place and distracting (Zep's studio effort AND live performances). For me, the dynamics between Page & Bonham - along with John Paul Jones's understated organ playing - is the soul of the song. Plant's vocals on the studio album, and on any live version I've heard, are frankly awful. If you know of any better Plant performances, let me know. Keenan's treatment with synthed effects is appropriate for the tune; enough to complement it, without being overbearing. This lets the instrumentalists in Tool make No Quarter their own. Great performance; particularly the minimalist guitar work.
@ikon82755 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's obscure I mean music fans no no quarter. But yeah it definitely is such a haunting amazing song. Glad they chose to put their spin on it.

I'd love to hear them do "When the Levee Breaks". Such psychedelic music, plus another chance for Danny to amaze with his power and interpretation of a beat that leaves a lot of room for him. When it comes to HEAVY music, TOOL and Mastodon are very much my style, over a focus on speed or BPM.

@TheElectricBuddha5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, he truly is, and I think Danny or MJK tend to get more attention than he does. Adam's bizarre style gives the atmosphere of the song, and Justin's unique, technical, guitar-like style gives the structure of the song. So many of the songs are practically "defined" by him: Schism, Reflection, 46+2, etc.
@mvijayar5 жыл бұрын
Justin’s baselines need to be listened to and reflected upon in isolation and celebrated. I have listened to many a great bass players but Justin remains in the elite section of that list - his harmony, string arrangement and intricate playing give Adam’s guitar the perfect foundation to create the trademark sound. What a musician and what a band 🔥🤘💪
