Lyrics:
Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity
Calculate what we will or will not tolerate
Desperate to control all and everything
Unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen
Clutch it like a cornerstone, otherwise it all comes down
Justify denials and grip 'em to the lonesome end
Clutch it like a cornerstone, otherwise it all comes down
Terrified of being wrong, ultimatum prison cell
Saturn ascends
Choose one or ten
Hang on or be humbled again
Humbled again
Clutch it like a cornerstone, otherwise it all comes down
Justify denials and grip 'em to the lonesome end
Saturn ascends, comes round again
Saturn ascends, the one, the ten
Ignorant to the damage done
Wear the grudge like a crown of negativity
Calculate what we will or will not tolerate
Desperate to control all and everything
Unable to forgive these scarlet lettermen
Wear the grudge like a crown
Desperate to control
Unable to forgive and sinking deeper
Defining
Confining
And sinking deeper
Controlling
Defining
And we're sinking deeper
Saturn comes back around to show you everything
Let's you choose what you will and will not see and then
Drags you down like a stone or lifts you up again
Spits you out like a child, light and innocent
Saturn comes back around
Lifts you up like a child
or drags you down like a stone
To consume you till you choose to let this go
Choose to let this go
Give away the stone
Let the oceans take and trans mutate this cold and fated anchor
Give away the stone
Let the waters kiss and trans mutate these leaden grudges into gold
Let go

I'm 58 and I've been listening to Tool since Prison Sex came on MTV in '93. Without a doubt, the greatest rock band of the 21st century. While I do love all my classic rock, metal and alternative, there are none like Tool. Lyrically untouchable. Musically complex and deep. Some of the best musicians on the planet. Who else can take a 13 year hiatus and come back with a no1 album?

The most aggressive and profound song about forgiveness ever. It captures the actual anger and hate, then vents it and warns of the dangers if you hang on to it too much. It's easier in the long run if you 'let this go'. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but It's therapy this tune!

One of the greatest bands ever(TOOL), Maynard James Keenan, because you're awesome & so happy you like it! :D TOOL is about to release an album, first in like 14 years. That's probably why it just popped up for you(trending now). If I were you, I'd start listening to their oldest stuff first. Seriously, it's so good. I credit this band(along with a couple of others) for keeping me from ending my life in my teen years. Things were super rough. Family wasn't there for me; only music. TOOL's music is therapeutic for a lot of people. Now you have the advantage of being able to look up their lyrics & music videos easily. :) In the 90s & early 2000s, we didn't have that option as much. It was very hard to find this stuff, which made it more adventurous, but still. ;) I'd say check out their music videos first... You can listen to their albums from start to finish; it's an experience. If you smoke weed, that also adds some fun, lol. Happy trails, Miquel! :D

This track is about a battle with Saturn ascending and teaching us lessons over and over again until we get it right. "Saturn ascends, choose one or ten. Hang on or be humbled again" means get it right or Saturn will come around again teaching the same lesson until you do it. "The one the ten" could be the Aries and Capricorn houses in the zodiac (Capricorn is ruled by Saturn). A lot of what Tool Frontman 'Maynard James Keenan' is saying in the lyrics relates to characteristics of a Capricorn. They are known to hold grudges and be control freaks. Maynard is an Aries, the true pioneer of the zodiac. It could be a message for all the caps and people out there who hold grudges. The line, "Unable To Forgive Your Scarlet Lettermen" presumably refers to the classic novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. One of the main characters in the book is a female adulteress who is forced to wear a scarlet letter 'A' on her breast as punishment.

@frankgio779

@william schettler the word "ÆNIMA" is a blend of the word "anima", which is a proposed superficial "woman-like" spirit that exists in every man, and enima, a device that flushes out the rectal cavity with saline. this name literally means the "flushing out" of superficialness. The song is based off of Bill Hicks famous comedy but where he talks about California breaking off if America and floating away. Maynard used this to rant about all the superficial garbage that Is Los Angeles.

"For the lyrics on Laterlus, I wanted to address the same kind of stuff as Ænima. I wanted to explore that sense of release, kind of combining archetypes with where we were in our lives at that point. On the previous album, we had gone through that whole transformation, what some refer to as the "Saturn return" - your 28th or 29th year, when you're given the opportunity to transform from whatever your hangups were before and to let the light of knowledge and experience lighten your load, so to speak, and let go of old patterns and embrace a new life. It's kind of the story of Jonah and the belly of the whale. You kind of sink or swim at that point. And a lot of people don't make it. Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Kurt Cobain didn't quite make it past their Saturn return. For me, starting to recognize those patterns, it was very important to start constructing songs that chronicled that process, hoping that my gift back would be to share that path and hope that I could help somebody get past that spot. And the first step in that is just being aware of it." (MJK)

I remember where I was when I first heard this. I was at university, in the midst of studying for a degree that I did not like anymore, upset with the world after having recently lost my father, and going nowhere. This song was recommended in my feed and I had listened only to a few songs off 10,000 Days at the time. I listened to this song for what felt like hours, coming to the realisation that I am not happy here, only doing this degree because it was something that my father didn't disprove of. I was angry at him and in turn angry at myself. I decided from that day forward I was going to make sure that I was going to do what made me happy and glad to simply be. I wasn't going to live my life accomplishing other people's goals except for my own. This song and Tool have changed me, for the better. Cannot thank this group enough for that, they helped me forgive my father.

I Had a brief moment in time with a similar feeling when i was old enough to be told that I was adopted and that my Real Mother and Father were taken within 12 hours of each other right after Christmas Day. "Tis the season to be Jolly" hmmmm. Didn't have a chance to study at a college for any type of degree. But Alas, Here I am today, right now, enjoying this music and working from home on the architectural plans for a 50,000 s.f. Custom home along PCH1 in Pacific Palisades, Ca. I could have held a grudge and it would have held me back. I could choose to keep thinking about all that I lost or even never had but where is the Effen challenge with that. There are many things that you dont' get to choose but how you decide to deal with any situation is YOUR choice. When the dust settles anyone who is not on your side never was and that's fine by me. When the world tries to kick you in the ass, turn around take it with a smile then perry and punch that mother fucker right in the nose. Then you can laugh and say now that's done can we move on I got some shit to do. Que Next Tool Song.

Very rarely do I come across a band that has more than a couple songs I like and watching the videos for TOOL'S music makes me feel like I am being transported to another planet with all these strange creatures surrounding me. lol. Also, I can't relate to anyone who doesn't know who TOOL is, we def wouldn't be compatible because I talk about/listen to this band everyday. @@michaelburman2108 I really enjoyed my first listen. Haven't checked out the lyrics yet. It seemed to convey sorrow. The theme in my head was some kind of departure. I imagined being in a space capsule leaving Earth and witnessing how it's torn apart while drifting into the black unknown.

Tribute to my friend Robbie who passed away this May year in 2021 due to suicide...I'll miss you more than you'll ever know my dear friend. Your demons ended you but for me I want them to engulf me to survive 2021 beyond my friend. I hope you'll understand. He got me onto this album back in 2012 as a form of meditation but now he sadly didn't make it now, I owe it to him to carry on but my intentions are different to him. He lived by TOOL law and mantra yet the pandemic and family problems ended him, such a kind and giving man. We were the Yin and Yang here, the good died young and I lost a friend while myself neutral to villainous survives..Why is it the good never make it in this life?!...RIP 1986 to 2021...🥺👿😈😈👿😈

Just want to say thank you all for the kind comments here and yes I've also lost another friend and two family members myself both this and last year. But I'm no different from anyone else here and I don't seek to be as we've all lost something here and there. It's not about me I guess but sometimes I struggle sometimes waking up to figure how to use my friends teachings in this blasted 2021 here?! I often think: "No what?! How do I use the teachings in such an awful time such as now?!" I'll use them in my own way here and there. As for this planet/society?! It's damned itself and I don't have to do anything as it'll do itself. I'll just do the clean up should I survive?! Thanks and bless you all sigh...
