Buzz on Maggie was one of those shows that came on every morning right before school. It was the last moment of joyful freedom I got before I had to head out to a place I hated every day. So yes, I do actually remember the show and what it was about. You got me on the characters though. I have no idea what any of their names are except for Maggie because her name is in the title.

I think the reason why people don't remember this show is because it's fairly average, like the only thing that makes it stand out is the fact that everyone is a bug and they don't even use that aspect to it's full potential. Anthropomorphism is a great storytelling tool, but you need a reason to use it. Like why is everyone a bug? How those it effect the story?

The Buzz on Maggie, Growing Up Creepie, and A Bug's Life were very important to me as a bug-fearing kid. They made bugs cool, adorable, and loaded with interesting facts, and that was a godsend to the kid that had previously frozen up every time they saw a spider or a roach. 5:08 Trick question. With older shows people remember 'the idea' of a show more than the show. People say they love it but if they were to watch it they would get fed up very quickly and quit. How many people say they like classic Loony Toons / Tom and Jerry but haven't seen an episode in literal decades. And have you tried re-watching classic Voltron / Robotech / He-Man? And obviously episode shows get 'idealized' more quickly. The exceptions are Star Wars and DBZ where every major plot point might as well be carved into your bones.

Funnily enough, Butch Hartman worked on the 80s _My Little Pony_ cartoon, and his major struggle on that show was with trying to remain consistent with the show's art style. And I'm guessing he would have faced a similar problem on the _Punky Brewster_ cartoon he also worked on around that time. Yes, that was a thing - a cartoon based on _Punky Brewster,_ I'm dead serious. But I did love the character designs in this and I thought it was cool that a cartoon predominantly aimed at pre-teen girls was allowed to be gross and weird! Plus kids love insects so I'm sure it was at least perceived fondly at the time.

I only remember the one episode where the one mean girl bug was trying to make everyone act like ladybugs and Maggie was just like "Nah bro, we're FLIES, we puke to eat" Which is how I learned that flies puke on their food before they eat it Also Skye Sweetnam was one of my childhood favorite singers so to have her sing the theme for The Buzz on Maggie and the soundtrack of Barbie Diaries made me the happiest kid ever

Honestly all the knocks against Maggie, the episode endings, and the theme for not being the most upstanding is what reawakened why I liked it as a kid and can appreciate almost as much as an adult; "wanna see a energetic gremlin girl get into mischief?" And man I'm all for it sometimes. The most recent show I know that kinda matched Maggie in that way would probably be Mighty Magiswords. Decent wild comedy toon with fun art mostly forgotten sans people wanting to bone the main chick.
