You are such an inspiration, thankyou i have been a cosmetologist for 17 years and i am in the process of learning my value in the industry, which has in the same time opened my mind to other possibilities. I know times are changing and that videos and pictures are a great way to display your talent. Thanks you for pushing me to do better and to not be afraid of where i may end up. I feel like i cant thankyou enough.😎😜🤩

You are so welcome! Thats what it's about. The value building is endless in this industry and the more we do it, the more value we should also be building. If not, we get stuck in a rut. Always growing and evolving keeps the passion alive. Thank you for tuning in!

Trained last year as a barber. I had another job in sales at the same time so hadn't done many cuts. Always wanted to go into barbering full time and recently got the opportunity to rent my own shop. I hesitated because of my inexperience but it was too good an opportunity to let go. Watching and learning as much as I can. I loved this video as when I have moments of doubt it makes me realize I can't skip the steps I have to follow the process. 3 weeks in and learning more each day hoping to get better and better. Thank you

Hi Katie! Thank you for sharing your story!! It’s definitely true, if we don’t allow ourselves to go through the process, you wont ever make it to the next phase and you get stuck is what usually will happen. You are not alone because many people have voiced this out to me before. It’s a hard road to get anywhere decent with anything, but thats the true test of time to see if actually does mean something to you. Also, its gotta be full effort or the results will be the same. Best of luck on your journey!

So for someone that has been cutting for a min I love cuttin but I’m tired of cutting in the shop especially with the group of ppl that I’m around no one goes to shows to educate themself I’m the only one I feel like I’m just around a bunch of ppl that aren’t trying to get better or grow in this industry an I feel stuck no one is feeding or pushin me in the shop
@Judegalang_

Have you tried researching a shop in your area that have passionate barbers? I just started cutting and dm’d a barber that I aspire to cut like and met with him and asked him a bunch a questions. As Sofie mentioned networking is key!

Joohhd yes I’ve tried I’ve reached out to a lot of barbers in the industry no lie I’ve dm plenty and a lot of them never hit me back I’m just trying to learn more about the game etc you wouldn’t believe how many ppl I’ve reached out to hell I’ll pay I’ve asked if I could come into the shop and shadow and everything heck I’ve gotten to the point where I wanted to stop cutting plenty of times I fault like my cuts weren’t getting better I stay on KZbin but if I don’t have anyone to tell me what I’m doing is wrong I can look at KZbin all day long like I said I’m around ppl that’s not or don’t have the same passion I have you wouldn’t believe it we’re not a group I’ve been there 3 years and never had a shop meeting etc it’s sad and I’m wasting my time there but I’ve been in this city 14 years I’m scared I’m away to leave because that’s where all my clients are an I don’t feel comfortable enough to up and go and most of my clients are black but I want to get better at cutting different races hair so I don’t have to turn ppl away

L Boogie I can see you have the desire to get better, you have to use this desire to outweigh the roadblocks ahead. From what you’re saying it sounds like there are more cons than pros in your current environment. Have you ever thought that even if you lose your current clientele due to change you may gain a more diverse clientele and reignite your passion for cutting hair? I’d look at it that way imo, you mentioned being scared and also comfortability, 2 things that kill passion. You it bro , sending u energy from Sydney Australia

L Boogie hi bro!! I totally understand what you are going through. This does happen but look at it more of as a challenge. A time for growth. A new opportunity in ur path to take a different approach. When i first left barbershops to work alone .. my fear was not having enough excitement or inspiration from not working around people. Something I had to learn also.. (this will slightly be different for everyone but I’ll share my experience with you) ... when i was working with a team who no longer inspired me .. i had to take it upon myself to inspire me. By going to shows, attending seminars for the pure fact of gaining knowledge so i can learn on my own. If that wasn’t enough... the one thing that you can always attend to .. is ur skill sets. It can always grow no matter what level you reach. I focused on those two things and then my road became more clear .. or option 2 .. i outgrew one shop and left to another .. and started at the bottom again. It’s scary, and u have to rebuild but it was the best thing that could happen. I had to learn how to walk again in a different swimming with sharks. U can make every experience whatever u want it to be. I think u need to dig deeper into yourself and ask why ur doing it. It seems like you may have lost ur way or just haven’t built enough bravery to Leave the shop and rebuild somewhere else that promotes ur growth. U always left with two options. Stay where u are .. or step into the unknown and work like hell .. and have a different result. The choice will always be yours. The results of ur life depend on the quality of ur thoughts, how strong ur desires are, and how relentless u will be in achieving ur goals. I wish u the best. U got some important things to think about 🧠🙏🏽🙌🏼

Super useful info, I’m at school right now but one of the things that is hard to do is to find heads to actually practice on and it kinda sucks because I want to learn and not allot of people are available:/ but I’m staying positive I just hope that I could find people.
@Staygold31

I know what you mean but they are def out there. If not then, try friends and family and take it easy on them. Meaning like if you do a skin fade and u never have .. dont take it so short the first time but maybe tighten it up tighter as u go through various haircut sessions so u can ease into learning how to do it vs scaring them off and butchering their haircuts. Once i built enough “decent” haircuts.. i was able to pick up more strangers off the street. There’s absolutely no way you will ever get better unless u cut often and a lot if it. U can do it ! Keep asking and keep looking 👋🏼

I didn’t know you came from a cosmetology school! Did you ever go back and get your barber’s license? I have a cos license, but have only been working in dual licensed Barbershops for the last 5 years, and have been kicking around the idea of doing an apprenticeship with a barber.

i thought i had responded but i dont see it. I actually love it now. the transition from mac to pc again was weird at first, but now using that second screen, it's been nice for multi tasking and the system seems to run faster for me esp when rendering videos...with tons of effects. So far so good, but still learning the shortcuts and the system functions :)

@@Staygold31 😅 Sorry I think that was my fault, I commented the same on two videos coz I didn't think you saw it. Yeh they look so good, with only a few effects/colour and title, mine won't play back smoothly at all now, not even with proxy files. Loving your work keep it up 👍🏻.
@Staygold31
@Staygold31 5 жыл бұрын
Ok that makes sense now lol but that’s def not good if it’s getting stuck even using proxy. You need a stronger system. I didn’t learn about computer specs until the system slowed down from editing. So i do recommend an upgraded system! I’m on the go a lot so i figured you get a laptop instead of a desktop.

Sofie, what is your timing for an average haircut? My issue is: I talk and chat ... A lot! Does it really affect concentration and timing?
@Staygold31
@Staygold31 5 жыл бұрын
For me personally now it’s 45-60 minutes. Possible more depending on style and texture. I kno there’s still outside variables because based on where u work, it could shift. I can totally concentrate better and talk the more i practiced it or shifted my focus better so i can better serve their experience and keeping myself on time. It took me awhile to find a balance of time that works to have those conversations too! Hope this helps (:
