I personally think its ridiculous that Pete Rose is banned from the hall of fame. Just because he bet on his games, one of the greatest players of all time will never see the inside of the hall of fame
@piplh10 жыл бұрын
He knew the rules, he broke them, and it certainly didn't help that he denied it for nearly 15 years. Gambling nearly destroyed baseball back in 1919, so it should come to no shock to anyone that is one line you can't cross with baseball.
@Brandon-fi6oq10 жыл бұрын
piplh I understand that, but BANNED FROM THE HALL OF FAME!! That was completely unnecessary. None of the gambling affected the outcome of a game, so why did they have to punsih him like he took steroids?
@lt338110 жыл бұрын
piplh I don't get it, how does gambling destroy baseball, its not like people are stealing money out of the baseball player's pockets. I'm sorry if this sounds stupid, I know nothing about baseball or it's history.
@stingrey157110 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? Imagine if Sean Payton bet on saints games. During the game he call questionable plays and substitutions or Kevin Durant betting on thunder games and was missing shots. That is what Pete rose did BOTH as a player and manager. He said he only bet on the reds to win. He also said for 20 years he never bet on baseball. What do you believe?
@piplh10 жыл бұрын
I'm not defending steroid users, but I always considered gambling a bigger crime than juicing. Juicers are cheating to win the game, gamblers only want to win their bet, not the game. Also, if Rose ever does get reinstated to baseball, odds are he'll have to be voted into the Hall just like most everyone else, and odds are he won't ever get the 75% of votes required. Reinstating Rose will also open the worms to reinstate the 1919 Black Sox. Honestly, I think the writers will be more willing to vote in Shoeless Joe Jackson in the hall than Rose.
@onlyhalfbad33310 жыл бұрын
I don't think Woods should of been on this list. Drugs, betting, hurting others I can understand. Cheating?? Not so much. That's a personal thing he and his wife should deal with personally. Not the public's business.

I mean this stuff goes both ways. Just now Formula 1 pilot julias bianchi went into coma, because money hungry idiots wanted to hold a competition in pooring rain. Athleats are usually adviced by their trainers to use drugs and yet they take full responsibility. MMA fighters have prolonged careers even if they have critical health issues. I love sports, but this fucking enterntainment on TV makes me sick. Armstrong issue was incredible brutal, what a fucking circus.
@deemareedubois31373 жыл бұрын
Marion Jones was the hardest to take for me. I like her so much and was so happy for her when she got her medals. She paid a heavy price for her steroid use. I think even though she did time in prison, lost her medals, the toughest thing for her was knowing she could have won without them. Only 23 years old, “Aaron Hernandez suffered the most severe case of chronic traumatic encephalopathy ever discovered in a person his age, damage that would have significantly affected his decision-making, judgment and cognition, researchers at Boston University revealed at a medical conference Thursday.”

I remember watching the TDF back in the day thinking something wasn't right with Armstrong. He just had unnatural stamina. The guy could make multiple sprints to stop others getting away on those gruelling mountain stages then once they were all tired launch an attack of his own and do it stage after stage. Granted quite a few of the opponents were juicing too.

Chris Benoit was probably the first highly covered incident of an athlete with CTE killing another human (he killed his wife and son) and proceeded to kill himself. the media focused on steroids at the time so its an easy incident for a non wrestling fan to forget, but lets not overlook its significance in the now ever so pressing issue of head trauma in pro sports.

Jacob Quinn actually I think Chris Benoit shouldn't have been on the list, he didn't fall from grace. he killed himself(I know there is more). falling from grace implies that you live to see your own demise. anyways, it wasn't about the deed, it was about fall. sure, people do the same things but since they are unknown, nobody sees it. or if it makes it to TV, maybe.

@stingrey157110 жыл бұрын
you cant bet on the game you play or coach. people cant seem to wrap their heads around that. it puts the integrity of the game into question. think of it this way. what if pete carroll bet on seahawk games? what if carmelo anthony was placing bets on the knicks? it will make you question every decision they make. "was he putting up bad shots on purpose?" "why did he put in the rookie DB to face brandon marshall? etc"
@bradr.86510 жыл бұрын
Sting Rey I agree with what you are saying Sting Rey, and correct me if I am wrong, but I remember reading that Pete Rose never bet that his team would lose. If he isn't betting on them to lose, there is no real reason to question his moves as a manager or player, because he is (presumably) making moves to help his team win. Again, I agree that you can't bet on the sport you are playing or coaching, and your points are valid ones, I just don't think they fit the Rose case (unless I am wrong of course).
@stingrey157110 жыл бұрын
Brad R. pete rose said he never bet on his team to lose. he also said he never bet on baseball. 20 years later he admits it. how do we not know he isnt lying about betting on his team to win too? also you dont just bet on wins and losses. rose could have been gambling on the over/unders as well. we dont know. ie. reds vs cards- total 11 runs. pete bets on the over. score in the 9th inning. reds 7 cards 3. he puts in a bum relief pitcher who gives up a two run homer. final score reds 7 cards 5. pete wins.
@bradr.86510 жыл бұрын
Sting Rey Oh I understand the concept of sports betting, and again, I agree with you. TBH I hadn't really considered the over/under bets, but they don't seem like good bets from a person in his position... they require too many variables to fall in to place. But hey, that's why it's called gambling right?... haha

I'd put Ben Johnson higher, and I'm a Canadian! An entire nation was let down by this man, not just once, but three separate times. And through it all, he never admitted that he was wrong in doing it. Furthermore, when Donovan Bailey finally redeemed our faith in our track athletes, we couldn't really enjoy it as much because of the memory of what Ben had done. I'd also put Lance Armstrong at number 1, because it wasn't just that he cheated and denied it, but so many were inspired by him because he beat cancer to become what he was. And I really believe he didn't need to cheat, he probably would have won many of his races without drugs.

The thing about doping in sports is that it is pretty much what the audience wants. There is so much pressure to perform and win and standards are so high that athletes pretty much have to dope up in order to conform to expectations. The audience demands records and pretty much superhuman performance in order to be entertained so if athletes didn't dope many people simply wouldn't watch because it would get boring.

Xanax was found in ALL of the bodies. And you can "black out" for two days. So maybe he didn't make the "direct" decision of killing them. And if he took it after they died. How can he have killed himself? He hanged himself with a pulley but how can you do that when your "sedated". I'm not defending him but how can you do that? His mind was already damaged. FalkonX3000 come on really? This is why other countries have a love, hate relationship with us. Of course America is great but we don't have to be our chest about it. America's ego is basically on kanye west's level.

I still don't understand how Pistorius could qualify for the standard Olympics. First off, he's handicapped so he should be limited to the Paralympics and secondly, he got dominated in the Paralympics final so how did all the other handicap athletes that beat Pistorius not make it into the normal Olympics? And how is he not going to jail for manslaughter?

What about Ray Rice?
@rufuslacue43510 жыл бұрын
Ray Rice is a scandalous and disgusting story but he wasn't a national hero or icon. If someone like Tom Brady or some other golden child did what Ray did that would be a fall from grace.

Rufus LaCue Oh right that sounds understandable. I'm from England so I wasn't sure how popular he was before he did what he did.

Does tennis player Mariano Puerta count? His career finally seemed to take off at the 2005 French Open when he was the runner-up against Rafael Nadal, but then there was that doping scandal right after the game that caused him to be banned from ATP for 2 years (it was originally 10 years or so but it was reduced in appeal). He came back after his suspension but never recovered from the incident.

Because OJ was televised the entire way, even though most people say he did kill them, but he still denies

yeah but like the height from which Armstrong fell from made his fall way bigger then OJ

Deco5757 Being confronted by Oprah Winfrey for taking performance-enhancing drugs is child's play compared to being put on trial for murder.
@Deco575710 жыл бұрын
Alex Meyer my point is compared to how high Lance Armstrong was, OJ was a nobody, no one even knew who he was outside of America until the trial! So even though Armstrong didnt fall as low the fall was actually larger. Ya get what im saying?
@alexmeyer526010 жыл бұрын
Deco5757 Sort of, but just because O.J. Simpson wasn't widely known outside of America before his trial in the 90s doesn't mean he didn't deserve to be #1. I mean, when my parents were kids, O.J. Simpson was considered the best football player in America. Millions of kids idolized him.

How could they miss MIKE TYSON on this list? Tonya Harding was a true bitch, but she shouldn't make this list over Tyson. He was convicted of rape and served years in prison, just months after losing his first ever fight, along with all the heavyweight titles. Tyson was at least a top 5 "fall from grace," but here they didn't even give him a mention. Major miss.
@Tee-OhBee8 жыл бұрын
Mike Tyson fall from grace? This is a guy who said "I'll fuck you til you love me faggot, I'll eat your children" during a pre-fight weigh in. Is that considered grace to you?

+Tee OB that would be part of the FALL, not the grace. oh, bte, fuck, you are dense.

Chris Benoit should've totally been on this list as more than just an honorable mention. He broke the stereotype in wrestling that you need a 6'6 meathead as champion. A guy around 6'0 and can really work also deserves a shot. After finding out that he killed his family in a murder suicide WWE hilariously decides to delete him from all their archives and bans any mention of him in any WWE event. They even deleted a Wrestlemania, WWE's greatest event, from existence.

I think it is illegal because, for example if you bet against your team, you could tank the game and lose. It damages the integrity of the game. But I do think they should let Rose into the HOF.
