I’ll never forget a video I saw on KZbin about the Vampire dragster where Richard actually revisited the car. He said “It’s funny. I remember getting in this car but I don’t remember getting out of it, so technically I’m still in it.” Even though he said it humorously, it felt like quite a harrowing thing to say about a machine he nearly died in.

I know it is The Grand Tour, but May´s crash of the Mitsubishi Evo was scary as well, since he landed on his side of the car. Terrifying to watch but glad these 3 are OK after all they´ve been through. Hopefully we will get some more from them in years to come.

But that episode where they talked directly about that accident has never been replayed. Partially because Hammond has no memory of it. Not joking, he has said he doesn't remember doing that show.

Hammond did an interview with Jonathan Ross and said that the entire year after that dragster crash was lost to him memory wise. He has absolutely no memory of the North Pole trip and said that he came back far too early. He came back to Top Gear only a couple of months after the crash.

Yes and no. Hammond had at the very least 6 month off and it was under doctors order that he resume back into normal life with the support of TG team ( Not BBC. A lot interviews implied that TG / GT team work as a semi family. ) However, Hammond felt that for series 10, he should sit it out but ultimately didn't. There a really good video on Richard hammond that explain the timeline.

It was staged. They made it pretty clear when they were asked about it. 80% of what you see is scripted along with jokes etc. 20% is improv and just stuff that happens on road.

Flintoff didn't crash he simply went off the runway. Hammond's crashed occurred when they were taking tracking shots he wasn't going for any kind of record there were no Guinness world record officials at the runway or any land speed recording equipment.

Guinness isn't the official records keeper for that, it's the FIM or the FIA. Hammond was doing 320 miles per hour when he crashed the dragster too, so I don't think that was just a tracking shot. Then again I don't know if he had any intentions of attempting a record in the first place.

just fyi: hammond had no intention of breaking the land speed record, in fact, he wasn't even allowed to try as you not only had to do the top speed going down the runway, you had to then turn around and do the same speed in the opposite direction and the production team deemed this too "unsafe"

If you watched the video for ~10 seconds longer, you’d see that Jeremy WAS in fact driving a Porsche. They were using footage of the Audi because it appeared in the same episode AND the same scene as the Porsche. Next time, maybe fully watch the clip.

Apparently james went to see Richard in the hospital after that vampire dragster crash, and surprised him with a bunch of lego sets since he knew hammond loved them and to help aide his recovery, which i think just goes to show that no matter how much shit these three give each other, deep down, they’re friends

James’ head injury was scariest for me. The dragster was a huge crash, and it was dramatic, and Richard nearly died. It’s incredibly scary. But James’ one is scary from the uncertainty. A head injury like that can either be a concussion, or you’re vegetative, or anything in between. And you don’t know until you’ve been checked out. You knew Richard was injured, James’ injury wasn’t a certainty and could have been so much worse.

Funny how it took the BBC this long to cancel a show that ended in 2015 after 22 seasons🤷♂️how has drawn out like this, anyway, i can understand Freddie's safety concerns but it just goes to show that new TopGear isn't even worthy of the name because Richard literally nearly died and not long after that horrific crash, he wasn't only back at work, but in a race to bloody North Pole!!! So not to hate on Freddie but its no comparison. Hammond nearly died/dies everytime he went/goes to work and yet he still does it. Yes he's concerned but he came back everytime......And then crashed again🙈🤷♂️
