Awesome video, great tips that I’ll be incorporating 1. 4-seam fastball 2. Cutter/slider, movement depends how hard I throw it 3. Change-up. Not a lot of movement, just deceptiveness. 4. Forkball. Still learning this one, I’ve been struggling to get it consistent. Sometimes it dives straight down and sometimes it dances like a knuckles. Depends on my arm angle.

I hit the subscribe key so I hope you have me subscribed. I teach 4 pitches and I have had several pitchers that threw a knuckler. 1 - 4 seam FB less movement morecontrol. 2 - 2 seam FB - movement toward the middle finger and slightly down 3 - Change middle 2 fingers on the narrow distance between the seams. (circle with long fingers) 4- is curve snap the thumb and index when releasing 12 to 6. High School coach and blesses with small hands. That is a blessing, isn't it? THINK POSITIVE! You work with what you have, and convince them they are blessed with what ever they have to work with and work harder to improve.

4 seam fb 2 seam fb/sinker ( extremely minor difference whilst throwing, ) Cutter Trophy change 1-7 curve slider (a little bit less thrown) splitter (less thrown) Slow sweeping curve (Very rarely thrown) and yes I can hit the strike zone constantly with these The slow curve, splitter, 2 seam, and sometimes slider do hit the zone but not as accurately (constant corner hits)

You know, I've read about how pitches are thrown, and seen other videos on this subject over time, and I'd pieced together some of this info, but I have to say thank you, this really did help me understand the basic mechanics of pitches and why they behave as differently as they do - especially the cutter/ slider /slurve/curve explanation.

Hey coach! Love the vids and I use them with my lefty 11 year old and my little league aspiring pitchers. We use a ton of your material to work on pitching mechanics and how to increase velocity. For some of our advanced kids, we are working on grips to create an arsenal of 4 seams, 2 seams, change ups and splitters. Do you have any live pitching drills to work on hitting your spots?

Thanks! I've checked out those videos too and we have incorporated the mental aspect a lot and we have our pitchers doing planks and v sits to enhance body control and core strengthening. I guess I should 've more specific.....My boy has got good stuff with 60 to 65 mph 4 seams and 2 seams. His put out pitches are the split and change up. He gets the ball across the plate and is in the zone a lot. What I'm looking for is if he wants to put the ball on the inside black, or pitch low and away, or even throw waste pitches just off the plate.....really being able to command those pitches and be more location specific with them. Especially with kids, they need to see the ball hitting the location. Do you have any suggestions to help with that? What did you do in your career to command that nasty sinker and put the ball right where you wanted it?

Hey Coach Madden! I love your videos. I have an idea and I must admit that I don't know if you already have a video or videos that answer my question. Instead of having a video with so many pitches, why not break them into 2 or 3 sets of best pitches and explain when to use them? In other words, when would you use or throw certain pitches and why? I have an idea, as I played a bit of pro ball, as catcher out of the Dominican, but many youngsters don't know when to throw certain pitches, under what corcumstances, to get ahead, to waste a pitch, how to work those who crowd the plate or settle away, etc. Gracias por tus vídeos Such videos would be awesome. @georgefloydspaceshuttlepro1839 Жыл бұрын
This won't be a popular opinion... A perfected single pitch, ideally two seam or four seam fastball thrown exclusively and with very high level of precision can be all you need to be very successful. The reason being when you throw it VERY accurately you can guide the ball in the field by forcing the batter to hit the ball cleanly toward one area of the field and any other less then ideal contact ends as foul ball or pop up or weak grounder. The batter will never know where the sweet spot swing will be. It's nice to have a big menu of pitches, but you can end up overthinking your strategy. Make the batter hit the ball, and make them hit it where you want them to hit it. You will keep your pitch count low reducing arm fatigue and the ball will be in play making the game entertaining to play in and watch. The key though is can you get good enough to hit the target you are throwing to every pitch, if not then go for pitch diversification.

Hey John, you make great videos ! I am struggeling badly on my consistency , when pitching to batters my mind is totally freaking out and making me a really bad pitcher. In bullpen sessions i can hit the zone pretty well also my velocity is really nice for a guy my size. However even in the bullpen i can not controll my pitch rotation, the same speed same grip pitch can either break up to 5 inches to the inside or by the same amount to the outside corner. Are there any programms or drills you can suggest to me ? I am living in Germany so there is nearly no accessability to professional coaches. Thank you ! Cheers Mike

Ok so I have about 7 pitches I know how to use and I throw all but one like a fastball and I get really good action with wrist movement, ironically enough, my fastballs aren’t that great 4-seam 2-seam Gyro Forkball (I put my fingers underneath the laces rather than on the knuckles, and I use my thumb) A slider/slurve (I have the slurve grip and I throw it while twisting my wrist to where my thumb goes straight down, so 3-6) Slye (similar grip to the split-finger, but the thumb is on the laces and the middle and index are on the knuckles, gets a much faster and much more action but similar results to the slurve) And an Eephus (I hold it with 4 fingers, all knuckles, as far back on the ball as I can while still holding control, and I have to throw it upwards like 6 feet. It’ll travel all the way to the plate and drop straight down. I threw it pretty high my first time and it fell 2 feet in front of the plate.)

bantam: 4 seam FB, 2 seam FB, Sinker. Midget single A: 4 seam, 2 seam, 12/6 curve, knuckle/fork/change-up. , Midget AA, 4 seam, 2 seam, 12/6 curve, slurve/slider, knuckle/fork/change-up. Midget AAA: 4 seam, cutter, 12/6 curve, slider, change, fork/knuckle ball. i played AAA in canada for 4 years, and in the USA for the Memphis Redbirds for 2 and a half years. but of course, when in doubt remember this: you can strike ANY batter out with 3 pitches. 4 seam heater, cutter/2 Seam heater, and a sinker. downward movement is MUCH harder to hit than side to side, side to side is easy to change the batter's plane on his swing, but if u got good 12/6 movement, you'll get ALOT of fly and ground outs.
