Do you think decent off road tires on a fwd vehicle would make a significant difference? Maybe not for Gold Mine Hill but for more basic trails. As you can probably tell I have a newer Odyssey and when the stock tires go I'm probably gonna uprgade to more beefy tires for going a bit off the beaten path for camping and such. I know my ground clearance is bad, but as far as just plain grip is concerned do you think that'll make a good difference?

My 05 CRV has a great off road system which works great in snow and ice, but useless when off-roading because no ground clearance, the muffler pipe hangs below the body under the vehicle.

If you notice even with proper snow tires that you are having trouble stopping and making hard turns, try airing down 10-15 psi. It might save your life!

You guys should find a Nissan Xterra PRO-4X to take up golf mine and cliffhanger 2.0. I know u guys have a couple videos on an Xterra but would love to see one go up it! I own a MDX 2006. It owns in the snow. I loaded 7 others in the car I still push the car hard in the snow and still owns. Always about the tires I believe and maybe the driver. =P

Dean Klein I’m not so keen. I drove my girl friends in the snow at the beginning of the year and it was really unpredictable. I wish it had some sort of AWD lock so you could rely on it being 4wd so you didn’t have to have it slip before sending power to the rear wheels.

I guess I am LITTLE LOST ON THIS ONE. I think they said the Durango was rear wheel drive and that is not a comparison, should have tried the AWD, although the front fascia will be the limiting factor with it as well. I don't know why more American affordable rigs were not listed, like the Jeep lines as they are very capable. I love watching these guys but for most Americans and the sales absolutely show it, these European rigs are just not affordable, nor do we want them. Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Jeep and GM make many rigs VERY capable for winter snow driving here in Oregon. And the Subies are thicker then fleas on a hounds back.

Quattro is either Torsen(rear-biased) or Haldex(front-biased), depending on how the engine is mounted. VW uses mostly Haldex and calls it 4motion.

Speaking as a viewer,anybody who wants to lend them any kind of automobile of their own to try out I'm ok with it as long as the owner and TFL are OK with it. But speaking as somebody who ain't got money A-I probably ain't got anything they want to try out. (I drive an 01 Dodge Ram Sport and wife drives an 08 KIA Rondo) and B-I can't afford to drive from Kentucky to Colorado for them to try either of them.

So you tested cars in the snow to ascertain which AWD systems were better but did not put snow tires on them? How do you know the failings were primarily due to the AWD and not because of a lack of snow tires? You should've put the same brand and model of snow tires on all of the cars tested to eliminate that variable. Unfortunately this video is almost worthless because of this. And 25 min. of two guys talking with no action footage of the cars just makes for a crappy video. Just some feedback.
