Enjoy the journey as much as you can and if you still want long hair that's easy to manage , protective style it! Wife, braids etc, and once you come back with the beautiful curls TRUST and believe those same family members will try and act brand new and want natural hair too! Good luck ladies! @AminaMarie7 жыл бұрын
+ItsKaiii +Joshiyonna Hayes I recommend getting as much info together as you can about transitioning and have an action plan to present to mom. Her main concern is probably not wanting to spend too much time on hair maintenance but if you show her what styles you're ready to do and that you're ready to put in some of the work to take care of it, that might make her feel a little easier 😊 It does take a little time to master at first but ultimately it's worth it because your hair will be healthy, growing and able to do things you never realized it could 💕 Good luck!

Why do you let your mother touch your hair at the age of 14? My mother was not allowed since she almost torn out my hair by brushing it when I was 7 years old and at that time I did not even know that I had curls thanks to the constant brushing and bad ingredients in my hair products.
@Bellydance9414 жыл бұрын
You legally have the right to not allow your mom to touch your hair. Your 14. Start speaking up fr your self and get disrespectful if you Have to and tell your mom exactly what you told us. Your hair is your crown. Ps: its relaxer. Perms make curly hair relaxer makes straight

I live in Miami. It never gets cold. And I work in a professional environment, so going natural was a challenge without being able to use heat and without doing a big chop. So the first year, I just roller set it every night and wore it up. Year 2-3 I wore curly extensions that matched my own curl pattern. I’m now into year 4 and my hair is down my back. It’s been a VERY long journey, but my hair has never been so long, and I swear by castor oil, it really makes my hair 2x faster! It may feel like forever, but it’s worth it in the end.

Mya Guzman I had my first relaxer at 6, went natural at age 29. After 4 years of protective styles and no heat, I have waist length 4b curls. So the best way to get your curls back is to leave it alone. You’re very young, and I wish I started this journey when I was your age. If you start now, you won’t believe how long your hair will grow by the end of high school! But until then, just let it grow! Good luck!

I big chopped and started with one inch of hair in 2015 and I was natural for almost 8 years and decided to get one relaxer and cut my hair into a bob. One month later I missed my fluffy hair and decided I wasn’t getting a second relaxer. I refuse to go bald again so this transition journey is new for me. I’m doing ok with treating all my hair as if it’s natural because I don’t remember any other way to style. I’m only 3mths post relaxer and I plan on transitioning for as long as I can hold out this time. I’ve been wearing braid outs because I’m already used to not using flat irons so I blow dry and then do a braid out. I’m going to experiment with flexi rods next. My bob has already grown 2.5 inches in 3 months so I’m doing something right. I’m getting my ends trimmed next but my bob still looks clean cut no see through ends so I’ve retained my length. I’m excited to be on this new journey.

Great video! I am currently transitioning from heat damage and boy this stuff is NOT as easy as I thought it would be. I am going to hold on and stay confident tho. Hey on the plus side you can start again and grow it out completely natural. With transitioning some parts that are so damaged may not revert back so it's better to chop it off anyway :)
@sydneym.83067 жыл бұрын
Kiara Medina when you transition you do cut the hair off all. People don't transition thinking the hair will revert back, they do it because they don't want the dramatic experience of chopping it all off. Because if you have always had longer hair it's kinda tragic to do it that way, and takes a minute to get used to. But when you transition you slowly trim the damaged hair off. Still wish i had seen this video right before I finally chopped so then maybe I would've stuck the transitioning phase out a little longer lol
@ppomodori7 жыл бұрын
Sydney M. Everyone's different and it probably depends on the damage a person has. I didn't have to big chop since during my transitioning phase my curls reverted back without cutting the damage after straightening my hair once/ twice a week for over a year.

First of all, this was an awesome video! I wanted to ask a couple of questions because I'm transitioning, and I am on the STRUGGLE bus! Lol. My biggest struggle is maintaining my styles in between my wash days. What are your tips on maintaining your hair while working out? Also, what was your daily moisture routine while you transitioned?
@AminaMarie8 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, I'm glad it helped! Maintaining styles is definitely a huge bullet point and my best advice is to pineapple! Whether your hair is short or long, I recommend doing 2 pineapples at night and wrapping your hair with a scarf around the sides so you don't crush your curls. I use 2 because when I was doing 1 big pony tail at the top of my head it stretched out my bottom curls a little too much and the style wouldn't hold as long, but with one at the top and another towards the middle I could stretch a style for at the very least one week. At the gym I'm not afraid to look like a human pineapple if it means preserving a great hairstyle so I will do at least one big pony at the top of my head and a thick head band to keep any hair away from my face/neck. As for moisture I would lightly oil my hands and lightly pull it down bigger sections of hair, focusing specifically on the ends every other day or so. Hope that helps!

Ashlee Long Hey! English isn't my first language and I have straight hair so I don't really understand the concept of transitioning? Can you explain? Thanks!!

Camila Guapa Hi lady! Sure thing! Transitioning is when someone is going from having a relaxer or chemically processed hair, to wearing their hair in it's natural state. So glad i found this video because I've gotten a texturizer in my hair in October of 2016 and for my eighth grade prom I had to straighten it because I didn't have time to do any box braids, and that caused some major damaged because they had to keep going over and over with the curling iron. @@AminaMarie I'm turning 17 this year and I've been relaxed basically ever since I could remember. So I wanted to try something different and I'm a little afraid. I actually had a pixie cut last year but it's grown a lot since then and it's a bit to my ears almost past the lobe but here I am! Haven't been relaxed in almost four months (I think) but I'm giving up flat ironing

I’m doing the same thing! I’ve been relaxed sine I was in middle school I’m 17 now.

@@NamesBondHavingStronk that's great! Now is the perfect time to try something new, and an added bonus to learning to nurture and embrace your natural hair is also a new chapter of your self-love journey. You've got this!

Great tips, encouraging ..I have trimmed away at the straight hair but I still have to add perm rods to fake it because I have very loose curls but thick hair...been transitioning about 2 years now. but you have encouraged me to keep going. Thanks

I'm sooo interested in transitioning but I'm scared. My hair is naturally very wavy. I just trimmed my hair and straightened it but I'm gonna attempt to go natural now that my hair is healthy. You're motivating

I'm currently transitioning from heat damage and perms .. this video gave me hope! Lol
@Tinydolltasia7 жыл бұрын
I recently just started transitioning and I noticed my hair is very similar to yours. The hair on the back of my head had very defined curls like your hair but the front is a little less defined with heat damage.. I'm not sure what curl type I am but it looks just like yours... I'm transitioning because when I was younger my hair was really long (near my butt when straightened) and then I started cutting it and straightening it all the time and it's been stuck at just past my shoulder blades for almost four years. I also hate having to waste 3 hours of my day straightening my hair.
@AminaMarie7 жыл бұрын
Tasia Jiminie your curl pattern is probably 3c/4a. Once you grow out the front and trim off the heat damaged ends you will definitely see that definition you have in the back. It took me a year to finally feel ready to let the front ends go!
@byrondial72345 жыл бұрын
Its probably 4a

When I was younger (5-13) I used to relax and straighten my hair all the time and I really want my curls back. I started transitioning about 2 months ago and I have 3 curls back and I know it's not a lot but it's a start 🙂🙂😊💎

Good tips. Thanks for sharing. Suggestion....perhaps instead of rotating out products when they are not working the same anymore, try using a clarifying shampoo. I'm currently listening to The Science of Black Hair and this is one of the items that she speaks to directly. The lack of response in the hair may be just a result of a bit of product build-up! Thanks again for the video.
@AminaMarie7 жыл бұрын
+DaShan Williams I've actually had a discussion about this and that is GREAT advice! We don't realize how much buildup we don't get out with our regular shampoo alone at times so a little extra kick with a clarifying masque or adding ACV into the mix once a month or every other month is a great alternative solution.

if anyone is still watching this, use yogurt and egg and mix it and apply it on your hair 2 times a month it does Miracles and wait 30 mins or 20 and wash out
@thomeciarichardson95656 жыл бұрын
Does it matter what kind of yogurt?
@daliasamad15414 жыл бұрын
Thomecia Richardson just use natural yogurt but if you are protein sensitive do not use this and also as this is protein based use a moisture mask in conjunction with it
