In mid July I weighed 258 lbs. and started IF in conjunction with resistance training two times a week with 2.5 mile walks daily when not lifting. Progressed from 16:8 to 20:4 end of September. At 6'3" tall, I currently weigh 215 lbs. and my belly fat is falling off. The first month was terrible as I suffered from a long gout attack, dizzy spells, and flu like symptoms. I didn't give up and pushed through and now I feel better than I have in quite a while. Consistency is key. Also, don't listen to people which try to discourage you even if it's indirect, they don't understand.

Hi Josh Robb. Thank you for your comment. I know you are trying to be helpful, but please understand how this channel is different from any other. If you watch a few videos from start to finish you will probably realize that information is not about the itemized action list or the bottom line. The actual value of information lies in the understanding you walk away with. Empowerment is about the why and the mechanism. Most channels simply reiterate lists of "facts" without putting them into perspective. Then people watch another video with other "facts" that say something else, and the more inconsistent "facts" they hear, the more confused they get. This channel is unique because it is about understanding the bigger picture on health and how humans function. It's like a free college education for lay people vs meaningless disjointed soundbites. It is a proven fact that you express your genome differently and more profoundly if yo understand why you are making the change. Details are quickly forgotten but concepts are retained for a life time. When we have the big picture we can make sound decisions based on common sense, sift through fads and trends and take the best care of ourselves for the rest of our lives. You are worth it!

A few years ago I noticed that I had absolutely no tolerance for alcohol anymore. I was never a big drinker but occasionally I would indulge. One drink became my limit. It was so odd because I could always tolerate 2-3 before but not anymore. I noticed that I was so sleepy after eating. My bedtime became 8pm and I usually fell asleep in the chair before that. I was having so many strange symptoms of nerve type pain. No one could give me any answers what was wrong with me. I drank LOTS of water but I was up all night going to the bathroom. I cut back on water but the bathroom trips didn’t slow down. My bladder started spasms, I felt crazy. I was aging weight, I was running 3-4 x week but my weight kept going up. Then I found your channel and Dr Fungs channel. I started fasting and never looked back. I’m 49 yrs old and I’m back to high school weight. I’ve gone back to work as a nurse (I was off for 10yrs raising kids and because I felt terrible) I keep a close check in my blood sugars I still do extended fasts 2-3 days here and there and I have noticed in the last month, that if I have a drink I’m not tipsy after one. I still stop at one just because but I feel my liver is repairing itself. Thank you for putting such good information about there where we can heal our bodies!!

Two rules mainly: fear the carbs overload (not much more than 20g per day) eat as rare as you can (calculate your protein needs and stick to that) it's meat,fish, poultry and cruciferous veggies mainly, maybe some eggs and or ghee K, of course everyone different, but...this is where you should start from if you got problems

I have been on Keto and IF for almost 2yrs now. Lost that tire around the waist in the first 60 days and kept it off. Only problem is my wife and kids mock my diet and keep the tempting junk food around. I have had to cook for myself since starting Keto. My pet rabbit is the only family member that eats cruciferous veggies with me. Talked the wife into trying IF. She tried 16/8 plan but didn't cut the carbs. So at 10AM she is starving and stuffs down lots of carbs. Bread, Pasta, etc. Then works out for an hour. Stuffs the pie hole again. Finishes her workout. She has gained 20lbs and blames the IF plan. I gave up and don't talk about Keto anymore. Just ignore their comments. It is sad that I am in better shape than my kids. My 24yr old daughter is on the high sugar diet. She has sleep deprivation, roller coaster mood swings, diarrhea, low energy, nausea, etc.
@vivaciousom53474 жыл бұрын
Your wife needs to get fat adapted to avoid being so hungry. It’s the carb dependency that’s hurting her efforts. I do IF and whole plant food diet. No junk and I don’t like bread or pasta so I have lots of room for much better vegetables which is so filling that you don’t get ravenous hunger. I cook for myself too because no one eats like I do.

Allow me to reiterate comments below. Great fan of the science behind the decisions needed to be healthy. Same story; yo-yo diet steadily increasing set point. Got to 300 (BMI to 43), systematic progress down over 40 lbs, increased muscle, bone density, huge loss in visceral fat. I have 30 lbs to go and can envision the goal. More importantly have a life style that will ensure long term health benefits. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!

Bn training and IF'n for around 30 years . Fat loss is not complicated or very hard . What's hard and complicated is peoples reluctancy changing their diets or/and lifestyle . Wots always worked for me Keep ur carbs to around 100g a day ( low gi ) keep ur fats to half the carbs around 50g all good fats olive oil fish oil etc and get around 1g of protein per pound of body weight ( lean body weight) if u don't know ur lean body weight estimate it don't go mad u don't need loads of protein I don't count cals or macro in green and fibrous veg so eat as much of them as I like . Train with weights min 3 times a week try n do cardio every day 20/30 min just for health really u can lose weight without any cardio if ur diets on point and ur in a deficit but of course the cardio will help . For me the stomach n lower back is the last place I lose fat

Yes. Drinking that much fruit juice is like drinking a glass of coca cola. (That's not science, but you get what I'm saying.) It's not good for you, despite what we've been told. Dr. Ekberg has info about this in one of his videos.

Thank you Akky Ban. That will probably slow down your progress a little bit. The only one I would keep out of those would be that celery.😄

Huge difference in insulin spike if you eat two apples or if you juice them.Feeds the biome better as well.I'm juicing celery and cucumber but often eat the fiber.

Reason why so many people fail at fat loss is they're OCD with the small details and neglect the big pic . If u focus on health and longevity first and by that I mean eat as high a majority of unprocessed as possible and be more active than what you are now u will automatically lose weight . After you've grasped this then you can tweek ur lifestyle and diet to incorporate weight training and cardio along with tweeking your diet . Long term Fat loss / staying lean health and longevity go hand in hand ye you can get lean unhealthily but I garuntee you won't stay lean for long . Good luck

The Irony. Waking up, grabbing the phone and watching Dr Ekberg explaining that I shouldn’t have my phone at the bed. 😮 Great video as usual 🙂

Theres nothing wrong with hunger Embrace it! Feel it ,meditate on it! Discipline! Eat your calories and macros and that's it! Rest of the time ... LIVE! LIVE , LIVE!!! The problem is people are spending too much time thinking and obsessing about food!!! Eat to LIVE Not live to eat!

Can you use Xylitol instead of sugar? Does that spike insulin levels?

Dr on lifting weights, should I lift heavy or light to moderate weights?
@cps_Zen_Run4 жыл бұрын
Find what works best for you. I use low reps, with higher but manageable weight. But I do each one SLOW. Very slow.

Thank you pixsie doll. Depends on your goals and your fitness level. Use a variety of weights. If it is too light it provides activation and signals for the brain, but it doesn't give the body much of an incentive to produce growth hormone and add muscle. Most importantly - don't get hurt. 😄

I've done my weight loss journey, from BMI 40 to 22, and started going to the gym only 6 weeks ago. My objective is to build muscle to increase my metabolism, improve my flexibility and posture. The tip I'm following is to focus on doing a few exercises with as high weight as I can manage whilst still being able to complete the exercise properly and slowly. 3 sets of 4-8 reps and always go to failure on the last set. I'm still low carb but have now increased my protein. I do OMAD. I go to the gym 3 times per week and do 6 to 8 exercises per visit. I have to say that, at 57yrs, I'm pretty impressed by the results I'm seeing after only 6 weeks! So I'll keep doing what I'm doing! I hope my experience will help you too!

Use progressive overload. Start light, add weight over time as you feel stronger 💪 to be on the safe side stay within 8 to 15 reps. This is just beginner general advice

@@RTTGuy45 Yes, this is my path also. At 63, female, I have lost 60 pounds this year, walk briskly for 70 minutes every day (4 miles) and carry a backpack with full water bottles in it. My next goal is to start the weight lifting as soon as I feel comfortable going to a gym again. I want that HGH effect!

Dr Sten, could you address the problem of Mothers who must wake up in the middle of the night to nurse their babies. I have had six children and breastfed them all. My youngest is now 20. I still wake up at least once during the night. Can you suggest a way to retrain or encourage my body to sleep through the night? I usually fall back to sleep quickly. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO FOR US.

Thanks Dr Ekberg, I have found your videos quite inspirational. 10 days of as close to zero carbs as I can, plus intermittent fasting and I have already lost 5Kg. But what is going to happen to me if I eat roast potatoes and Christmas pudding on Christmas Day?

Here to get my extra credits. The abbreviations are used in Germany for weekdays Montag (Mo) Dienstag (Di) Mittwoch (Mi) Donnerstag (Do) Freitag (Fr) Samstag (Sa) Sonntag (So) Source: I am German. :) Besides, I love your videos and content! I have compared it with what German nutrition and health experts claim on TV and KZbin, and I have regularly seen how trained doctors promote "vegetable" oils over animals fats, how anaerobic exercises are promoted over aerobic ones because it allegedly burns more calories and helps to lose FAT (which it does not). It is dismaying how misinformed even self-proclaimed experts are in this field. All the more harder to convince people that what they are doing is detrimental to their health when their own doctor advised them to do so. I am trying to share your content with my German friends albeit some language barrier going on for them. Myself, I am writing you from Japan and I am lucky to have access to high quality fish and meats to follow suit on your valuable pieces of advice you deliver in every one of your vidoes. Please go on with this high quality content for a long time, Dr. Ekberg. :)
