Another reason "Forbidden Planet" was a groundbreaker was because it was patterned after Shakespear's "The Tempest," which is a concept that caught on in all manner of genres. "West Side Story" was an update of "Romeo & Juliet," then by some point, Hollywood just started making Shaksepear movies in the modern era.

interesting fact: the beast from 20,000 fathoms did not inspire he original japanese version of godzilla because both films were made only a few months apart of each other. it's just pure chance they were made almost at the same time. that movie did however inspire for the Americanized version to be made 2 years later because sci-fi monster movies were profitable at the time. i think that is where people get confused.

@nathanielphillips35924 жыл бұрын
I am going to try to give a reason as to why people like this say modern horror is bad while old horror is good. Since old horror movies did, well, come out in the past everybody only remembers the good horror films while the bad ones are left by the wayside because they aren't really worth remembering, even though just like the modern era of horror there were plenty of god awful old horror films. But then with modern horror, while we may have some clue on what's going to be remembered (like the vvitch and hereditary), it's still pretty up in the air. So we are watching as all these shitty movies fly by us and since there are a lot more of them were focused on them rather than the smaller amount of good horror films. But as time passes, just like old horror films, only the good modern horror films will be remembered while all the shitty ones will be yet again left by the wayside. There are other factors to this too like the modern being pretty experimental and a lot of people dont like experimental stuff for whatever reason. Also it's way easier to advertise nowadays so it's hard to avoid crappy horror movies when it's on some KZbin ad or something compared to in the 50s - 80s when you would have to go to a movie theater to watch a movie. So those are m basic reasonings as to why I tend to see this type of "old horror good new horror bad" type of argument.
@KombatGod8 жыл бұрын
12:00 YES glad you highlighted the original Fly movie. In many ways I think the original is better: the story is more suspensful, the lead female is more likeable, the supporting cast serve their role nicely, and the non-linear storytelling is more interesting. In the remake Jeff Goldblum steals the show, and the special effects as well as the plot rely more on shock value, which results in a more emotional experience to some, but not to me.
@erictainment16598 жыл бұрын
Not sure if James or Mike will see this but anyone here into Radio horror/sci-fi? more specifically Old Time Radio (OTR) from the 40s and 50s. Even some good ones from the 60s thru 80s. you can even find some good podcasts that try to replicate it. Nothing beats the theater of imagination. Itd be cool to see a video on that but i think he made al his MMX vids ahead of time. I got into them a little over 5 years ago when i decided to look up Orson Welles War of the Worlds (i think for Mercury Theater) just to see how it scared people into actually thinking there was an alien invasion. IT was pretty well done and i can see why anyone who missed the beginning would believe a space ship crashed on Earth. Some good ones that range from thriller, horror, suspense and mystery are Light Out, Mysterious Traveler, Inner Sanctum, Quiet Please, and Suspense. My favorite is X-minus 1, way more sci-fi than horror but still can be creepy and a lot of great scifi stories. One of the scariest stories i listened to was Porch Light from a canadian 1980s radio show called Nightfall. Nightfall seem to be a fan favorite, but all the stories are either hit or miss for me (mostly miss) but the ones that do hit are pretty fucking creepy, like The Porch Light. Listen to it alone at night in the dark. Gave me chills. Nothing can scare you more than your own imagination, well at least for me.
