She's a wise woman. Although many people can live long lives on a meat diet, a fruit and vegetable diet with herbs, spices, nuts, seeds, and mushrooms, is ideal for optimum health. Cooked food can lead to problems down the road. Some foods can be soaked overnight like nuts and legumes to make them more nutritious.

I steam my broccoli and then pour over them roasted garlic in olive oil and sprinkle red pepper on them, wow delish!!! For the green beans, I also steam and then mix roasted garlic and almonds. For my Brussels sprouts, I only like to cut I half and salt & pepper, pour olive oil on them and bake at 375 degrees for 25 min. Wow that is one of my favorite veggies. Happy cooking!

Well, I love tomatoes and used to eat them daily. Cherry tomatoes were my ‘drive by’ snack: whenever I came in the kitchen, I’d grab a few. But I have been suffering from osteo-arthosis in all my joints and.the pain was hindering my every day activities, especially in my hands. I searched hard online for natural relief and came up with some contradicting statements about tomatoes and joint pain and inflamtion. Some said tomatoes had no influence on that others said it was the first thing to strike from my diet. So I decided to do the test and stopped eating tomatoes for a month. Last day was yesterday. Now I know FOR SURE that tomatoes are BAD for my joints! Very bad. I have hardly any pain in my hands, the swelling is a lot less and I don’t have to take any painkillers anymore. All I can say is: eating no more tomatoes sure works for me!

I too experienced the same. After I came to know that nightshade vegetables contain lectins, especially tomatoes, I stopped eating them. I had arthritis in my hips and could hardly climb the stairs. After cutting those vegetables, I started noticing improvements in my movements. Six months after avoiding them, I could climb the stairs easily without any pain. So, it worked for me. Different bodies have different dispositions; what one works for one may not work for others.

Yes but you were eating them raw!? COOKING tomatoes alters the chemical composition and allows the licopine (sp) to be more easily digested by the body. Cooking of many vegetables have the same effect in which they become more easily absorbed and digested by the body.

Question about tomatoes. Is it true that they have lectins that are bad for arthritis? Another doctor has said the skin and seeds are to be avoided along with other nightshade vegetables. 😮
@Be.Optimal
@Be.Optimal 29 күн бұрын
There’s some debate about tomatoes and other nightshades (like peppers, eggplants, and potatoes) in relation to arthritis due to their lectin content. Lectins are proteins that can cause inflammation in sensitive individuals. However, research is mixed. While some people with arthritis find relief by avoiding these foods, others have no issues. If you notice symptoms after eating tomatoes, consider removing the skins and seeds or eliminating them from your diet to see if it helps. Always consult your doctor before making significant dietary changes.

I enjoy tomatoes raw. Or cutting into quarters, drizzle olive oil & salt, into the air fryer to roast. Sautéed mushrooms in olive oil & garlic. Fresh green beans steamed & sautéed with olive oil and lots of garlic. Broccoli, & Sautéed in olive oil & garlic. I like black beans, best to soak overnight. Serve with orange slices and sautéed collard greens in olive oil & garlic. Place one leaves on top of each other, roll the collard greens like a cigar & cut very thin, than sautéed, but don’t over cook. No more then five minutes on medium heat. Cook Lentils, in chicken or vegetable broth & water. Add a little diced carrots, bay leaf, onions, garlic.

Tomatoes, potato, eggplant may aggravate joint inflammation pain. Doctors are not taught how to cook in medical school. They usually do not know or recommend traditional culinary herbs and spices that are added to cooking to reduce inflammatory damage. Many traditional recipes that cooks, not doctors, know contain these cooling herbs and spices such as cumin, coriander, fennel, turmeric, mint, dill, tarragon, oregano and others. Ask your Gramma how she cooks her spaghetti sauce. And serve inflammatory or gout producing foods with greens to help balance the effects.

I have arthritis and have been told to avoid tomatoes. I love them, but aren't the lectins in them a danger?
@Be.Optimal
@Be.Optimal Ай бұрын
Tomatoes contain lectins, which some believe may aggravate arthritis. However, they are also rich in anti-inflammatory compounds like lycopene. Cooking reduces lectin content, potentially allowing you to enjoy their benefits safely. If tomatoes worsen your symptoms, consider limiting them, but if tolerated, their nutritional value might outweigh the concerns. Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

@Be.Optimal
@Be.Optimal 27 күн бұрын
Avoiding mushrooms after cancer isn't supported by science. In fact, mushrooms like shiitake and reishi have potential anti-cancer properties due to compounds like beta-glucans that support the immune system. They may even slow tumor growth and enhance treatments. However, consult with a healthcare provider to ensure they're safe for your specific condition and treatment plan.

Boil it so u can tear off the skin and remove the seeds. Then u can eat tomatoes
@sarahsnowe
@sarahsnowe Ай бұрын
@@stephenmanley2012 In case people don't know how to do this, plunge whole tomatoes into boiling water for a minute, then drain, and cool under cold running water. Make a small nick in the skin of each tomato, and it will be easy to remove the skin. Cut them open and dig out the seeds with your finger or a small spoon. I like to do this in a sieve over a bowl so that the seeds stay in the sieve and the gelatinous juice can be saved.

Is there any foods that help with arthritis?
@Be.Optimal
@Be.Optimal 5 күн бұрын
Yes, certain foods can help manage arthritis by reducing inflammation and promoting joint health. These include fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, turmeric for its anti-inflammatory properties, leafy greens like spinach, nuts such as walnuts and almonds, and berries packed with antioxidants. Additionally, olive oil and green tea can help reduce inflammation associated with arthritis.

@Be.Optimal
@Be.Optimal 27 күн бұрын
For someone with Type 1 diabetes and thyroid issues, focus on a balanced diet rich in non-starchy vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, and whole grains. Include iodine, selenium, zinc, and vitamin D for thyroid support. Limit refined sugars, processed foods, and excess soy. Monitor blood sugar and thyroid levels regularly, and consult healthcare professionals for personalized guidance.

Aren't cricifeous vegetables good for thyroid problems?
@Be.Optimal
@Be.Optimal 29 күн бұрын
Cruciferous vegetables, like broccoli, cauliflower, and kale, are packed with nutrients and offer numerous health benefits. However, they contain compounds called goitrogens, which can interfere with thyroid function, particularly in people with iodine deficiency. Cooking these vegetables reduces goitrogen levels, making them safer to eat. For most people, moderate consumption of cooked cruciferous vegetables is not harmful and can be part of a healthy diet.

Aren't tomatoes high in oxalates which can cause kidney stones?
@Be.Optimal
@Be.Optimal 21 күн бұрын
Tomatoes contain oxalates, but they are relatively low compared to other foods like spinach or rhubarb. For most people, the oxalate content in tomatoes isn't high enough to cause kidney stones. However, if you're prone to kidney stones or have a history of them, it's wise to monitor your overall oxalate intake. Enjoying tomatoes in moderation is usually safe, but if you're concerned, consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice

@captainadams7569

Complex carbs are not the same as simple sugar carbs. Complex carbs don’t cause blood sugar issues, b/c they are high in fiber, which increases your gut bacteria and scrub your intestinal wall. I do see how anyone can eat meat only without complex carbs. It’s not a sustainable balanced diet nor does it make sense.

Me too. After some research I found out fruit is 50% sugar and 50% fructose and vegetables are carcinogenic and laden with insecticides, pesticides and oxalates. I have also stopped eating grains, root vegetables, processed "foods". Now I only eat eggs, beef, mackerel, sardines and butter. No longer pre-diabetic, 12kg weight loss, man's boobs gone, belly fat gone, high blood pressure normalised, off all medication, leaner, fitter and looking healthier. The low fat, high carb western diet is killing you. Just look at the health statistics since the mid 70's onwards.
