Another fun fact: A rice burner can actually run on rice. Boil it, throw in an enzyme such as amylase, add yeast, let stand a couple weeks, strain the mash, distill it multiple times until a minimum of 190 proof is achieved, pour it in a Japanese bike and voila! You're running a rice burner in rice. You should do a collaboration video with Nate From the Internet, Smarter Everyday, Nile Red, Action Lab, or someone else with the know-how to make this happen!

Bought and completed my first rehab project (85 Nighthawk S) two years ago. Knew a little when I started and just figured the rest out. Went from a decade plus of non-running when I bought it to 1200 fun miles on it since and runs like a champ. It was fun and I recommend it to anyone with even moderate mechanical skills who has ever thought about it. Give it a shot.

The 2019 plus W800 Is a great platform for a build, inexpensive and nice looking as a cafe racer.

Close family friends old man got drunk and wrecked his cx500 silver wing. Guy lived, chopped the frame and made a badass cafe out of it. You CANT kill these bikes 😂

An alternative if you can't find a sportster for cheap, a honda shadow makes for an awesome bobber or chopper build.

The Yamaha XS650 should have at least been a honorable mention. Six million were produced, easy parallel twin engine to work on and plenty of aftermarket parts.

It’s getting harder to find them cheap now that aren’t complete trash or have already been chopped or turned into a shitty cafe racer that “just needs finished”.

I guess the cb750 is close enough to my 86 shadow. Lol. Seemed like a good option to learn and tinker with.

How is Moto Guzzi V7 left out?
@baconsarny-geddon8298 Жыл бұрын
Is there ANYWHERE on earth where Guzzi's are cheap/common enough, to be a go-to project-bike? They're cool. But relatively rare in the first place, parts are hard to find. Little aftermarket support. Basically ALL mods (beyond simple accessories... and even THOSE may be hard to find) will need to be fully custom-made. Basically no interchangeable parts with any other bike, and needs Guzzi-specific mechanics, coz shaft-drive transverse v-twin (which is very cool... but oddball AF) Fine if you're rich, and/or have a bunch of time/skills/tools for scratch-designed, scratch-built custom parts... But it's gonna take 5x longer, and cost more, than the guy who starts with an xs650 or cb750 or Sportster. Or ever bmw flat-twin, if you wanna be all quirky and hipster and "unique".
@calvinlondt3037 Жыл бұрын
@@baconsarny-geddon8298 The older ones would certainly be cheaper to get hold of. The V7 is already mostly cafe racer, so technically doesn't need all that much modding to be one even when you get one new. In terms of aftermarket support, they are part of the Piaggio group, so there are common parts with Aprilia, Ducati, Vespa etc. I've also heard that Guzzi's are great for home mechanic work, Air cooled doesn't need coolant, and with minimal fairings most stuff to work on is accessible. Shaft drive is mostly maintenance free, and worst case scenario a BMW mechanic could likely fix it because they specialise in shaft drive as well.

XR650L weak sauce!!! Why not the “R” so many folks have plated the real XR as a project bike not the L version. Even a DRZ400 or KLR would have been a better choice to start with than an L.
