I have two meniscus tears, one a root tear, I had that one cleaned up. My surgeon wanted to do a full knee replacement. I went to another surgeon he said no, you don’t need surgery, that was 7 year ago. I was told to cycle, it didn’t work for me. I do exercise, and do a 30 min walk, three times a week. If I get lazy,😩 the pain comes back really bad. So moving is they way to go for me. I watched your glut exercises, I’m about to start them. Thank you David, you know your stuff. 😉

Hello Dr. David, I apologise for not responding to you sooner, I was on my way to La Manga Spain for a holiday and I missed your live stream. ( I am new to adding comments on YTube and I rarely do, but I do view channels I am subscribed to and take the time to thank those whom help me). I am so glad I have subscribed to yours! You are obviously a very caring, sensititve, professional and I would like to thank you so much in taking the time to respond to my comments and questions about the sharp knee pain I am suddenly experiencing at the humble age of 59yrs young! I retired as a Social Worker, have always been active and try to stay fit by walking, cycling and reformer pilates. Your extensive, knowledgeable presentation during your on-line consultation was most helpful to me and I have taken your advice and began to assess the mechanics of how I am actually walking, and doing some of the exercises you posted about knee pain. I am still experiencing sudden pain which eases off but returns after a while when I walk (and don't walk far, on flat surfaces 30mins). Can I ask you, what exercises can I do to improve or help knee pain, I don't want to make it worse you see, so advice appreciated. Sorry it's a long comment but I appreciated you responding almost instantly to my comments that I just had to say thank you! Keep up the marvelous work you are doing to help others, and now me! 👏 👏 😊 Take care, stay safe! Gracious me amigo, hasta luego! (Learning Spanish you see)! P.S. how often do you do a live stream, is it a specific day and time?

Hello, Thank you for this video. I hiked last year September and after that I had knee pain and clicking sound in my left knee. I had difficulty in walking. I consulted with doctor and he recommended for X-ray (That was done in December). The X -ray report was as follows : Mild joint space narrowing medial compartment with spurring of the tibial spines, in keeping with mild OA. No fracture or aggressive osseous lesion. No sizable joint effusion. No mineralized intra-articular bodies. I was in complete rest and when I did my X-ray I did not have much pain, but the clicking in my knee was there. I back to normal life as there was not very pain. Suddenly in January mid I danced one day and the pain got aggravated. I could not walk, doctor recommended for physio. I did that for 3 months. I could not walk properly in this three month, so I did not walk or stand if it was absolutely necessary. I did some pain free exercises as per physio's recommendation. The improvement was very slow. I walked with help of stick within my home and for very less duration. One day (In April) I tried to walk for 20 mins continuously (very slowly) with the help of stick. After that my pain again aggravated. Now if I get one step, it is painful. But if I sit continuously normally there is no pain. Standing now a days is difficult for me. I don't understand what is going on. Doctor has recommended me for MRI(But for that I have to wait 2-3 months). The pain type is pinching pain in my left knee. I feel really helpless. I strongly feel that there should be some exercise which can be beneficial. But I feel that the root cause is yet unknown. Please help me. Thank you once again. Regards, Madhu

Hi, thank you for these information of how to help ourselves managing our pain. I have a tourn meniscus since 2016. I am now feeling sharp pain. The knee cap is also growing out. I can only kneel on the bed or well padded area on the floor. I ca do much standing. I also have pain in my lower back. What can I do to save myself from surgery?

Hey, thanks for yet another great and informative video, feels like you provide us with the best knowledge about knee pain out there. I suffer from patella maltracking in both knees. the kneecap tracks laterally which has led to 4 grade cartilage damage on the lateral side of the femur trochlea. The groove is not as deep as it should be and i also have patella alta. I have been trying to address this with strengthening the VMO, using a foam roller to massage the overly tight and active quads and becoming more glute dominant and biking and doing the tailgate swings. The problem seems to persist still. What's your take on patella maltracking, could you do a video about it specifically? The pathogenesis of patella maltracking and methods to treat it. Thank you David for being a inspirational physiotherapist!

When I was about to turn 60 years old I had SUDDEN left knee and right hip PAIN. The pain was so painful that I couldn’t walk,stand, sit or or sleep for any length of time. I thought the pain would eventually go away or even alleviate somewhat BUT it never did. So after 2 weeks I finally felt I have to have a doctor look at it. My plan was to call the doctor the following morning to schedule an appointment. I thought I would go online to see what the “pains” were so I could understand what the doctor possible diagnosis would be. Well the word “Boron” kept coming up. So I rushed out to buy the supplement and within several hours 80 percent of my pains were GONE! The following morning (second pill) 100 percent of the pains were COMPLETELY gone!!! So it seems for ME personally I was depleted in this mineral and taking Boron took away my left knee and right hip pains. I still take (1) Boron 3mg daily and have had no side effects whatsoever.
@epmanualphysicaltherapy10 ай бұрын
Hey Tilly Girl! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us we are glad to hear that after taking Boron your pain was completely gone. One thing to consider is that everyone's body is different so what works for one person may not work for another. What's important is finding options that work for you as you know your body better than anyone. In order to find a solution you may need to try different techniques and exercises that you find beneficial. 😄

Do you have any videos or extensive knowledge on proper treatment for hoffa's fat pad syndrome/impingement that is stuck in the cycle of pinching-inflammation for over a month or longer (resulting from an injury)? Do you think a cortisone shot (if meds failed) would get that under control to then begin healing/therapy when too disabled from it to do anything otherwise? Do you think it's best for shot to be applied directly to pad or just anywhere in the knee? Have seen conflicting opinions on that.

At: 21.24 My 69 year old arthritis knee has this loose body trouble which happens once in a while. Otherwise, daily I walk 2-3 km a day and do nearly an hour gentle workout. When this pain happens my knee swells, bends, locks and i need nearly 3 days of rest to resume my routine. Along with soft exercises which you mentioned at the end, would skin traction help to recover fast? Thank you.

Hahaha went mountain climbing thinking I’m still in my 20s and now I am experiencing sharp electric pain when massaging the back of my knee… hopefully, it’s not major. No swelling. What really strange is that the pain shots up my back… any suggestion
@epmanualphysicaltherapy2 жыл бұрын
Hey Evolving Love, that sounds like it might be related to the nerves. You might just rest and take it easy for a while. If it goes away completely, then it's nothing to worry about - you just over did it. If it persists without getting better despite resting for 1-2 weeks, then you must get to a specialist to see what is holding up your recovery.

What resistance band do you recommend? From Germantown, MD
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Жыл бұрын
Hey esclayman, we hardly ever use resistance bands. We find that it's better to focus on exercises that help you activate the right muscles. When it comes to knee problems, most are rooted in a muscle imbalance caused by weak glutes. We've got many videos describing different aspects of the muscle imbalances. Irina from Greece. I have a light case of MS causing imbalance, also have osteoarthritis and osteo - chondrites on both knees. I have to deal with “knee drop” while walking. My physiotherapist keeps telling me that I need to strengthen my thigh and knee muscles. I do, I feel a little better but then get inflammation on the inside of my knee treated by ice therapy. Today I did more than my usual walking and my knee could not bend, it was very sensitive. I do not know what self treatment to do and what exercises to do. Can I do strengthening exercises on a bed? I have been waking with a stick and I am getting afraid of walking without it

Can applying pressure in others relieve the pain...applying more on the sides? When it flares up its excruciating but if I apply pressure in that manner...not fully but to some extent helps it not hurt as much.

Had my right knee ACL done in 2014 and still need the left knee done. now torn horn meniscus full thickness tear. the cartilage flips up then catches in the joint when I walk making it extremely painful. bones chipping off the knee causing a very bad stabbing pain behind the right upper knee cap. No longer load bearing and having a hard time keeping it under me especially if I carry something or pick up something up. The Phoenix VA said I need to wait 24 more years before they'll do the full replacement but they are willing to give me the wheelchair or scooter until then. Had the same age issues on the civilian side they said it's only good for 7-10 yrs then has to be redone. Any suggestions for a 41 year old who wants to stay mobile and participate in play time with his kids?

Today we did a workout and did different kinds of squats (jumping and with one of those pulling thingies) and then lunges and stride jumps. We did forty of each and now right where my leg meets my hip feels like it’s being stabbed when I turn or walk/run. When I apply pressure directly in the exact spot it doesn’t really hurt, but when I don’t, it can hurt pretty bad. It doesn’t help that my backpack weighs like 20 pounds (and I’m not being dramatic). Also, last week, my family and I went skiing and proceeded to go dirt bike riding the next day (if it matters, I do not know).
