I’d love to try a Rotring but by the time you convert the purchase price to Canadian dollars and include the ridiculous shipping cost you’re up around the $80-100 ca. I can’t afford to justify that much for one pencil right now. You’re lucky to find a couple of Bic’s or PaperMates around where I live so you have to go online and ship for any variety. :(

Love the list vids. The OrenzNero is really fantastic. I would put it higher on my list. I've even picked up backups in case it is discontinued. Also, the S30 is spectacular and I'm glad it made the list. I, too, have collected all the colors, although, I really prefer black.

I'm so glad I found your channel! I just received my Rotring 800 0.7mm (I plan to use 2B leads) and I love it! I'm just starting as a mechanical engineering/applied maths PhD student and I write a lot of equations! I also bought a P203 for the few technical drawings I make. I've been using for the past 6 years several Stabilo Technic mechanical pencils in 0.3 and 0.7mm for basically everything I wrote except for my exams (fountain pen). I thought it was a very good mechanical pencil: sturdy and with a metal grip. But the textured plastic body always turns to goop over time... I wish I discovered the true world of mechanical pencils sooner!

Why do you write with a fountain pen? Isn’t it hard to write fast with it?
@RazgrizDuTTA
@RazgrizDuTTA 2 жыл бұрын
@@yunshanluo3497 I've always written with a fountain pen since I was a kid. I like the fact that it is very smooth because during engineering exams I usually wrote 8-12 pages. With a ballpoint pen I get wrist pain or something before that and I'm not really faster. EDIT: And we had to use ink for exams: no pencil :(

Interesting video. I still think the Pentel P205 is one of the best. The Uni Shalaku is a very practical pencil, and the Tombow Mono Graph to some extent. My top 5 (out of the 10 I have) 1. Faber-Castell TK Fine 9717, 0.7 B 2. Pentel P205, 0.5 HB 3. Rotring Tikky , 0.5 HB 4. Uni Kuru Toga standard 0.5 HB 5. Tombow Mono Graph, 0.5 HB 6. Rotring Tikky 2, 0.7 B -your friend from India.

Personally, I think you should have a "Top 9" with the 10th slot being a "Honorable Mentions" list of arbitrary length This way, you can keep all those pencils that would've been at least 10th place worthy and stick them in the "Honorable Mentions" list with no 'List Length Limit' for "Honorable Mentions".

I really hate the chrome trim on the Pilot P30. It really ruins the smooth classy matte finish of the lines. They should have stuck with the brushed nickel look. For that reason, I will just continue using my P20.

Other pencils that you might enjoy using, and I'd enjoy watching you review: - Kaweco Special - Cross Classic Century - Retro 51 Tornado - Caran D'Ache Fixpencil - Venvstas Designer 8 - Any 'Yard O Lead' pencil you can get your hands on (I know, mix of mechanical pencils and lead holders, but I think most are available as both)

As we speak, my personal favorites are the Pentel Graphgear 500, Pentel P205, as for lead holders, I don't think the Faber Castell models TK 4600/TK9400 can be beat. I use them all for free drawing mainly, but I have also studied Technical drawing for 2 years, where we used both lead holders and mechanical pencils a lot. For writing, I prefer the P205/207 or the Graphgear 500. I only know 2 pencils from all those you mention here! I guess I have a lot more to try out! Thanks for mentioning them!
@retardno002

@@greekveteran2715 thanks for the reply, I recently purchased a P205 and I can't say I see what all the fuss is about. It's good value for money but otherwise there are many better options out there imho. The Caran d'Ache fixpencil is one of the few lead holders that can hold a candle up to the TKs from Faber Castell, maybe along with the famous Staedtler Mars Technico. All the other ones I mentioned are less value oriented and more 'nice to have', especially the Yard'O'Lead ones which are made of sterling silver and haven't evolved for the past 100 years or so 😁

@@retardno002 I said worse things than that, when I got the P205 for the first time in my hands, for the same reasons you mentioned!! However, after testing it in any possible way, trying out both writing and any kind of drawing, that's when I found out, why so many people say that it's the best mechanical pencil ever. It's one of the best mechanical pencils, for free drawing but generally, it's the performance and the versatility you get, for the price you pay. I still get better performance from the GraphGear 500, but I still would suggest it more for technical drawing bcasue it screams it's a drafting pencil from miles. Caran d'Ache fixpencil, is a pencil I always wanted to get, and I don't now why I haven't yet, I guess it's time to get that!
@retardno002

@@greekveteran2715 lovely to hear! I like the shape and weight of the P205 and the mechanism is brilliant. Try the Pentel PG5 if you praise the P205. It's the one I got before the P205 and I still prefer it. Same advantages but with a lead hardness indicator and slightly sleeker shape and grip section. Been holding off on the Fixpencil myself for some time now, I guess because it doesn't look special in any pictures or reviews. Finally pulled the trigger and got 2 Häberli limited editions in 2 mm and one regular Fixpencil in 3 mm, and man, was I wrong thinking they're not special. Even the regular one in 3 mm has this 1000 grit sandpaper texture in the grip section that doesn't show in any photos or reviews. I also get what you mean about the Graphgear, I put it in the same category as the Rotrings of which I have a couple, but I don't like to use them for writing or sketching. Definitely a draftsman tool.
@greekveteran2715

@@retardno002 The sandpaper mention, to describe the feel of that grip, means that you are also crafty with your hands, as I do! The only difference is that you know a lot more about pencils! lol I was just looking at the Fixpencil Alfredo Haberli, a couple of minutes before you mention it on your comment!! That's a sign, I have to get that version!! Thanks for the feedback! I really appriciate it!!

Don't think many artists use mechanical pencils and draftsmen by hand isn't really a thing anymore, all CAD. I can say that for engineering school mech pencils are still ideal but almost none of the ones on this list are good for that. For me in electrical engineering, my top picks are the Zebra M-402 (sadly discontinued), Tombow Mono Graph Shaker, and Staedlter Integrity 9505. The latter two have very good backup erasers that could see you through a full exam, the Zebra and 9505 have extremely durable tips that can be tossed in a bag or jacket pocket without worry. Can't be too heavy, especially top-heavy, if you're going to work for 8-14 hours a day with your pencil and 3 hour lectures.
