We asked our Instagram following what their favorite golf courses in California are for under $100. Out of all of the recommendations we narrowed it down to 5 that are must-play golf courses in California. Then we added our own bonus course that we have played. Let us know if you have played any of these or if there is a course that we are missing from this list.
We recieved a lot of recommendations so we're probably going to be doing a California Part 2 video. We're going to be doing videos for golf courses under $100 in every state. All the good affordable courses are in inland SoCal. Cross Creek, Oak Quarry, Dos Lagos, Glen Eagle, Hidden Valley, even General Old in Riverside if you're really frugal.

Went to Cal Poly and Morro Bay was an absolute steal of a course to play. If you were a student tee times were like $30 bucks even on the weekends

When I lived in SLO, I purchased the county card every year for about $100. It gave priority tee times to members and reduced rates at Chalk Mountain (Atascadero), Morro Bay, and Dairy Creek (SLO - although it was not completed until I moved away). I golfed all the time when I lived there and saved loads of money.

Played in my dad's golf league at Rustic Canyon years ago and man to this day it's still one of the most fun/different courses to play. Super long holes but very wide open, huge greens.

I live 30 minutes from Morro Bay and play the course there about once a month. It’s a fantastic course and can be quite challenging. It feels like I’m on vacation for a few hours when I play there. Highly recommended.

Wow, wasn't expecting this but I'm not surprised... I've played 3 of the 5 on this list! Cinnabar is an especially awesome, quality golf course - that was my home course for high school golf too! Morro Bay and Pacific Grove are the others I've been to - they certainly live up to the hype

San Diego also has TONS of awesome affordable courses. Some of my favorites I played recently were The GC of California, Encinitas Ranch and Mt Woodson GC.

Soule Park has the best food at a golf course in So Cal. You can finish a round starting at 3 in the summer and play till 730 Easy

I will agree here I used to play this course every other day during Covid. They put so much time and effort into bringing that course back to life and the price was always too good to pass up. I'd get on for the weekend for $20 or less cart included.

Bayonet/ Blackhorse in Seaside not too far from Pebble Beach. Under $100 if you play during the week.

@@travman39 i worked in the industry back in 90-91 in sf...i got to play that course several times...it was still very new back then. one of my favorite courses. right up there with olympic club, and spyglass hill. inexpensive, and no crowds at all back then!! i got to play the presido several times back then also...one of the great courses that no one plays...talk about empty. i've played it when you couldn't see another golfer on the course.

We get to play it for 40 on the weekdays and 60 on the weekends as sonoma county residents. Feels like I'm stealing money

You can play Sharp Park which has a McKenzie design right by the ocean for $35 (just avoid winter when it’s too soaked) Btw most SF courses like Presidio, TPC Harding are under $100 for residents ..

Grew up in SF and used to play Sharp Park all the time. Beautiful layout. It's owned by the City of SF and if they put a little money into renovating this course it would be awesome. And you are absolutely right, playing in the winter...you need scuba gear as the course does not drain well. I recall me and my friend Joe playing there when we were younger men in rainsuits and wading boots...lol!! I also remember in the late 80's, before the "TPC" was put on Harding Park, we played there for $16 twilight w/cart...leave school (SFSU) and play until the sun went down. Btw...you forgot to mentioned Lincoln Park Golf Course...a short 18-hole course that been there since 1902...beautiful views of the Bay but hell on the knees walking! lol

Cinnabar Hills is solid. Good service from the staff as well. Morro Bay is a gem. Remember, all your putts break towards the bay no matter what they might look like.

You guys missed the best best course in Southern California, Goose Creek. This is the best kept public course, with a fun layout and unbelievable practice facilities. Very unique with its farm feel and one of the best finishing holes. I’ve played all the courses on your list and Goose Creek beats them hands down.

Los Verdes in Rancho Palos Verdes is a gem, slow rounds but for the price its pretty incredible. Also Costa Mesa CC for 33-40$ is a great play.

Soule park was redone by Gil Hanse in 2005. Which I was an asset pro from 2010-2013. The same owner owned Soule Park and Rustic Canyon at the same time.. So it has lost its original charm from the original builder.. Still a really tough course from the tips and well worth the money.though.. Hope that info helps ya guys out a bit .

I used to work at rustic canyon. I grew up in San Jose California and played cinnabar many times it’s a great 27 hole track. Soul park is a great mountain creek course I’ve played there a handful of times. Never played morro bay. Paicific grove poor mans pebble.

When it comes to Golf I Grew up in Nipomo, Ca Monarch Dunes should be on the list along with The Links at Bodega Dunes in Bodega California it's a true Poor Man's Pebble Beach. Also Northwood Golf Club is 20 miles east of Bodega, along the Russian River. Created by the same course creator as Augusta National, 18 holes for $20 and $10 a cart

Dang you guys left out some absolute bangers for some stock public tracks. Nor-Cal and So-Cal really should have been split into nor-cal and so-cal. Nor-Cal Top 5 under $100 1.Pacific Grove 2. Dark Horse in Auburn 3. Dragon @ Nakoma, Truckee 4. Bayonet/Blackhorse, Seaside 5. Eagle Springs, Friant. Honorable Mentions, Golf Club at Copper Valley, Copperopolis (honestly, it is probably a better overall experience than Pacific Grove but PG is PG.)

When Rustic first opened we'd play for free after 6 'cause the pro shop would close. Then we'd play for $10 after 3 ... walking. This was before anyone knew it existed. It was awesome back then.

My favorite public course in California is Hunter Ranch in Paso Robles. You can get under $100 with twilight rates and it is well worth every penny.

Any "best of California" needs to split the state North/South. It's a 6+ hours drive from Sacramento to any of the course in SoCal, and vice-versa. 6+ hours will get you through 3+ states east of the Mississippi.

Eagle Falls in Palm Springs. It's under $95 during non-peak season. Not much of a clubhouse, but it's really all about the course.

Grew up in Monterey Bay so played Pacific Grove numerous times…the setting is better than Pebble which I’ve played about 5 times as it hugs Asilomar and the stunning coast. I started playing there when it was about $10 for twilite so the $64 seems rich for me!…it’s not a horrible value now but the course is really too short to pay too much. I’ve lived in LA for 35yrs and have played Rustic dozens of times. It is the best relative value in LA if Rancho Park wasn’t a 6hr round all the time. My only gripe with Rustic is that there are too many environmental hazard areas which makes it more target golf off the tee than is optimal. IMO the best

Sharpe was designed by Alister Mackenzie (also designed Augusta National, Cypress Point, Pasatiempo, Royal Melbourne), but it’s maintained by the city of San Francisco. So it’s a complete dog track. If they did to Sharpe what they did for Harding Park, it could be a gem.
