Two things about number 6: Castlevania Vampire Killer is not only the Japanese name of the card, but also the official name of the whip that (almost) every Belmont uses. Named after its use, I guess. Meanwhile, Vampire Lord and Vampire Genesis are technically a reference to Dracula himself, as he is always resurrecting from the dead and, when cornered, transforming into his monster form complete with horns, spiked bat wings, claws, and big muscles.
@jesuschristthefirstjojo.75652 жыл бұрын
In Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, The whip is called Vampire Killer because it utilized the soul of Leon Belmont's spouse, Who was turning into a vampire. I guess because of how the whip used a soul of a vampire, That's probably why it's effective against Dracula.

There was a mistake made when talking about Solar Flare Dragon: in this video, it was stated that you need to control another pyro type monster to use it's burn effect, which isn't actually how it works. You actually don't need to control another pyro monster to get it's burn effect during the end phase (or any other monster, for that matter), but it cannot be attacked if you do control another pyro monster, so you got it half right, Mr Top 10 List

Funny thing with the Moai Interceptor Cannons: in the german version of the card, its name is missspelled as "Moai AbfangkanoNNen", with "Abfang" correctly translating the interceptor part, but the german word for cannon, "Kanone" is spelled with only one N whereas "Nonnen" with two N's refers to women of the clerus, making "Kanonnen" kind of an accidently (at least i hope xD) word pun of Cannon and Nun. So the german Card translated back to english would mean something like "Moai Interceptor Cannon Nuns". Another glorious example of Konami being absolutely horrible when it comes to german localization xD

Other honorable mentions: - Roll Out! - its OCG name “Get Ride!” is based on the Konami anime “Get Ride! AMDriver”. Though it is based on the name of the anime, there is a video game based on that. Get Ride! AMDriver is about a young group of fighting force who could wield their own riding vehicles in battle to defeat their enemies (similar to how Red Rangers in Power Rangers use their Battlizer in battle), the concept of it is kinda similar to the effect of Roll Out! Where it equip union monster to one appropriate monster on the field.

Hand destruction should have been mentioned omg i didn't think of that! That card is still VERY useful in the right hands, and it's also good support for any newbie that can't afford draw cards for their archetypes. Making your opponent discard 2 HURTS even if they draw first because, they have to ditch good cards usually. Playing it as a quick play, right when your opponent only has 2 cards left in hand, is really strong, and a dirty play that really forces your opponent to make very difficult choices

6:47 small note: the small 'tsu' (つ) in Ryu Kokki's JP name is actually a special use of the character that is silent but emphasizes the following consonant. It's usually written in a smaller font size to distinguish it from the voiced 'tsu'. This is usually transliterated as a double-consonant in English, thus 'Ryu Kokki' is pronounced the same in Japanese as English. Edit: also, i think 'Vampire Killer' is also the name of the Belmont Family Whip.

Sasuke Samurai and Sasuke Samurai 4 have occasional use in goat format. Sasuke Samurai 3 also has a very niche use of swapping it to your opponent and then crashing into it to draw cards for yourself.

Sasuke 3 was great for one deck type. Using cards like "Greed" or, "appropriate". There are tons of cards that heavily punish the opponent for drawing , they are just never played anymore. But if your opponent draws their deck out you can make them discard down during end phase, or just make them discard by other effects. Or even make them shuffle and redraw, activating appropriate or greed even though they never technically increased hand size, adding more burn dmg.

Something you forgot is that "Vampire Killer" is actually the name of the whip the Belmonts use. Further it was the lover of Leon Belmont, Sara Trantoul, who gave her live to empower the whip of alchemy and help Leon defeat vampires like the one that turned her. This was the whole kickoff of the series as thiet ordeal was revealed at the end to have been orchestrated by Mathias Cronqvist (aka Dracula) in his bid for power. The Vampire Killer whip having the soul of the Vampire Sara and loyal only to the family line of her ex lover, has been almost a character of itself in its whip form throughout the series. The Japanese name of this card makes A LOT more sense now. The included Belmont is a cameo as one is required to wield the whip, but the dark attribute and instadeath effect against other dark monsters with the name "Vampire Killer" makes it clear that THE WHIP is actually what the card is centered around. The whip is enhanced by the soul of a Vampire making it dark but since she was vengeful against other vampires and gave her eternal life to take a form that could be used to destroy them, the effect of destroying all other dark monsters it battles makes perfect sense to the in game story. This also explains why it would fit being part of the Vampire series instead of having the name slightly altered to act as pure antisupport. Sara WAS a vampire. There is no need to alter the name slightly the the word Vampire to exclude it from the archetype because she WAS a vampire so it still fits. She just happens to be a vampire who also allows her soul to be used to kill other vampires. With all this in mind, this might be the most clever and unexpected expressions of a Konami character in YuGiOh ever. People will mistakenly think it's referring to the clear Belmont weilding the whip but with the origional Japanese name of the card and its details in mind, the truth is revealed. In fact..look at the art. You gave the Belmont tight against the one side of the card and the castle way against the left, both references to the series as background cameos, but the whip ITSELF is what is focused on in the center art of the card. The art is balanced by the surrounding cameo references but the Vampire Killer is actually what takes center stage in this imagery, THE WHIP!

Ryu Kokki from Ryu Kotsuki is probably a mistransliteration, or possibly the intended Japanese pronunciation: the character "tsu" in Japanese is used in a smaller form to denote that you pause for a syllable to duplicate the next consonant sound. The best-known example where this happens is Tekken, where they combined the words tetsu (iron) and ken (fist.)

A few things about the Arcade Game Xexex. The Flintlock (the player's ship) would wield the Flint pod (a front attachment) throughout the entire game alongside its main weapon (Proton Lasers). While attached, the Flint pod would protect the front of the ship from enemy projectiles. It could also be charged to have it fire a large array of tentacles. The Flint pod could also be fired forward (like a missile) using a special button (this detaches the Flint pod). The Flint pod would stop at the first enemy hit creating a small blast at that location. Afterwards, the Flint pod would float about in that location slowing/weakening enemies in said location (that were not already destroyed by the aforementioned blast). Using the special button again whilst the Flint pod was detached, would call the flint pod back to its original position in-front of the ship for reattachment. I don't know what game you were describing. Also, there is a Yu-Gi-Oh! Card named "King of Destruction - Xexex", that I thought you would go over.

Games based on popular animes that featured a character that was exclusive to that game. The idea came when watching the before mentioned videos I got reminded of an Inuyasha game that was released on the Nintendo DS. The story involved Kagome's school getting a foreign exchange student from the US named Janis. And as it turns out Janis is also capable of going through the well back to Feudal Japan. So she ends up joining Kagome and the gang for a one-off adventure. So Janis could be a contender for this list. Actually, the airplane men were very easy to play. I had a deck on them and it, actually whipped a ton of people lol. Ufo turtle, mothr grizzly, and flying kamikiri got them straight from the deck, and onto the field , ignoring any need to tribute. There was also discarding them and using monster reborn or call of the haunted back then, or premature burial. Once you equipped two airplane men to each other, they went to 2500 or 3000 atk and I believe your opponent couldn't activate anything in response to their attacks too, and they even did pierce damage ( I THINK, I could be wrong on this). But, yea they were REALLY strong for a total gimmick for a short time. Don't get me started on the Huge Revolution combo deck. If you managed to pull that off you basically won. Your opponent literally couldn't come back from it back then. It was obviously MUCH more challenging to do but, there are consistent ways to make it happen, especially now with all of the normal monster support

I ran an amazing burn deck with him as the MVP of it in the 2005 edition and I had no idea :P You might've missed Ben Kei out of the Goemon references by the way. Though he's based on a historical figure, his card matches his in-game appearance and references the fact he's a bit of a hoarder in that game.

There's also Star Drawing, which resembles Maxwell from Scribblenauts. (Not a Konami game originally, but they did publish it in Japan.)

In reference to Tactical Espionage Expert if they had made the other monsters reflect the members of Foxhound at least then there would’ve been some kind of link, rather than Eagle Eye you have Raven Eye, rather than Creeping Doom Manta you have Creeping Doom Mantis etc

I know that this is not from Konami game itself but my personal favorite references by Konami are the Inzektors and Masked Heroes. They all looked like Kamen Riders. Also my favorite XYZ card Evilswarm Exciton Knight looked like a cross between Shadowmoon and Kamen Rider 555's Orphnoch King.

Vampire Killer is the name of the whip weiled across the generations of Belmonts in the Castlevania games. The English card was changed from "Killer" to "Hunter" for no other reason than Konami's obsession with censoring tcg versions of cards.

I think it's funny that Getsu Fuhma and Ryu Kokki have effects that destroy each other while also having Vampire Hunter that can destroy both of them since they are both Dark type. It's like the bigger, more well known franchise stamping out the lower less known one.

Think you could do cards based on Mythologies for a future video? I've been researching different mythologies for a book I plan to write and a lot of gods, creatures, heroes etc. remind me of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, and couldn't help but think there must have been some influence, there's obviously the Nordic cards, but there's a lot more that I never noticed before, like how Suijin, from Gate Guardian, is an actual water god in Japanese mythology

One of the first sets of my Yugioh cards growing were bootlegs. So when I first saw Gradius I thought it wasn't a real card and something fakers just made. Only when I finally have legit decks that I realized it's an actual card (I was too lazy to Google back then)

For Number 6, there's also a reference to big bad Konami Drac, with Vampire Voivode (and Zombie Vampire) , who looks almost like SoTN Drac, minus the daddy beard. Vampire Genesis can be a reference to his Final form Even the Grim Reaper, and Carmilla have references in Yugioh , with respectively Vampire Grimson and Vampire Vamp.
@anonymousoff-brand75382 жыл бұрын
vamp doesn't much resemble castlevania carmilla(whose kinda distinct), or carmilla in general(who has her own card(fraulein) that fits better), but she does have a passing resemblance to alot of other female vampires(and succubi and werebats) throughout the series. lady could maybe be castlevania carmilla though. also, lord was probably also dracula.

30:26 I mean the Japanese name is Super-Hot-Blooded Ball Kid so it's not like he's called that because the series is obscure in the west. That name also helps explain why he's fire attribute.

27:54 Isn't Metal Gear Rex based on this design? It kind of looks like an upgraded Ducker. Not to mention that Metal Gears as a concept are basically just mobile nuke launchers and the only reason they go so hard with their designs is Otacon is a mecha anime fan.

I used to think using the Itsu archtype would be good with the equip play spell card Buster Rancher where it can only equip to a monster with 1,000 attack points or less as a way to increase the attack points up to 2500 and when attacking a opponents monster in Attack mode and in defense mode gain 2500 defense then I realized that it would work better on a Superheavy Samurai Big Ben Kei to make it's defense 6,000 defense 3,500 attack with the continuous trap card Labyrinth of Nightmare to constantly changing it's position get the best of both power.

I think all the Gradius themed effect cards should’ve had the effect text “This cards is always treated as Vic Viper”, but in the Cyberdragon way, not the Harpy Sister way.
