Clay, You absolutely nailed it for me with just one of your 3 MUST DOs. Perhaps the other two, I was doing satisfactory. Your tip about covering the ball by holding your back wrist bent as long as possible, was brilliant. I had lost my confidence lately and as a result, I was shooting bogie golf. Not good for an 8 hcper. After watching ur video, I worked on setting my back wrist to cover the ball and voila! I started hitting the ball farther and straighter than I have for wks. This gave me enough confidence to try it immediately on the course. Lo and behold, I shot 3 over for 9, which is about where I want to be. Thx so much. I’m a believer! Mike NS, Canada

When pros talk about covering the ball on their iron shots, they always reference their chest. Chest can’t be flying open on impact. Also, that’s a great shot there at 11:18. That great impact position stems from correct rotation & setup. It’s a problem I had for a long time. Another great demonstration Clay
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, covering the ball can reference many things (trail hand, club face, chest, head). The average Tour player has their chest open about 20-30 degrees at contact. It just doesn't look that way because their lead shoulder is protracted. Hope you're playing great! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Best explanation of the swing I have across! I really like the contrasting videos, right versus wrong , because I can now visualize what I have been doing wrong for years.....I have tried this with short irons first and it’s much easier to comprend how the arms/wrist work together to produce a square face. And why aligning parallel left is important. Thanks Clay.

Nice explanations. They match what my PGA coach told me. Valid. The most helpful thing he shared to help me get these things right was the muscular "how." That is which muscle should I be firing to make these movements. How do you get compressed down on the ball with lag? You explained this well, what it should feel like. Where I struggled was turning my hips toward the target and extending. It wasn't until he told me to pivot on my right toe and fire my right glute that I got it. Maybe describing the muscles that are pulling and pushing would help other viewers like me? Solid video. Thanks much.

You just put this all in a perfect level of understanding and importance for me at my game level currently. Really good. As someone who lives in Ireland and experiences a lot of adverse weather during the winter I would appreciate it if you could do a video on how factors like wind alter your swing and how lower temperatures have an affect on ball flight and distance.
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi, the wind won't play much of a roll in your swing unless it is really blowing. I will play a larger roll in your ball flight. We have some videos on our channel about hitting into the wind. The ball won't fly as far in color temperatures. You won't see much of a difference across 10 degrees but you may notice it when it's a 25 degree difference. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Clay, love the videos. My question is by delofting (covering) the club through impact dont you lose all of your height and have a much lower ball flight?
@nasdaqqqq49945 жыл бұрын
Joe Hamilton nope. You’re not actually delofting the club.. might feel that way. In fact, when you compress it really well, the ball will have tremendous height. Look at DJ or Rory. They compress the ball as good as anyone & they hit absolute nukes
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe, the ball will fly lower if you deloft it more. You don't want to take all the loft off though. There is a happy medium. Your typical Tour player takes about 30% of the loft off at contact. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Hi Clay. This is one of my favorite videos that you have ever done. But I have one question; you did a video years ago on how the body needs to start decelerating into impact to pass energy on to the arms and the club, but in this video you say that the body needs to keep rotating through impact. Do you feel like you continue to rotate through impact when you hit iron shots?
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, I know it can be confusing. The reality is that the hips do slow down but that's not what it feels like. You need to feel like the hips continue to rotate. If the hips still too soon then you'll typically release the club early. This is with all clubs. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

The lead leg is usually straight shortly after impact but it is straightening through impact.
