I think it’s a great idea to live away from the families your first year. My husband and I didn’t do this and extended family members regularly bombarded us, invaded our privacy, meddled to the point where there’s now broken relationships with in laws. We were so young and didn’t know how to set boundaries or ask for space but we needed space to figure out married life. We started off rocky and after 6 years, we still fight about our extended families. It’s so important to set the tone in your first year. I only wish I could go back on time and move to a different city and express my needs better.

Just every video sooo precious!! It's a real treasure to find such meaningful videos with quality message! Just some of my fav highlights and comments - Communication of how we are feeling about certain stuff might be awkward in the beginning and does require quite the humility but the fruit of it is PRICELESS!! - I also really appreciated what you said about not everyone liking to figure things out right at the moment but to just let the other talk with patience and let them pour it out to a same gender friend if desired - and just not having a close or best friend if the opposite gender is extremely important and not at all strange but shows real dedication and true contentment in having the attention and heart of one guy/girl and it's totally healthy!! - also "serving with sex" is so succinct but dead on!! - loved the priority aspect too - 1. God the Father, 2. Marriage, 3. Kids, 4. Ministry, 5. School/work, etc... - something that is actually kinda new is to not put pressure on my wife to be to be EVERYTHING to me or to expect me to be everything to her, but that's so eye-opening!! So many other things but we love your advices especially in this vid and please do keep them coming!!

You cannot "keep that spark alive." That "in love" feeling is hormones and chemicals having a party in your brain...and that WILL run out. But when it runs out, hopefully you have a rock-solid commitment that is there to propel you forward. Daily attention to I Corinthians 13 (the love definition) and the instructions to husbands and wives in Ephesians 5 are what is needed. After the spark dies out, love is then a decision, a choice.

Hey Chad and Tori! I know you guys take questions for your Q and A’s over Insta, but since I don’t have an account, I’d just like to send you a question to save answering until your next Q and A. If it is the Lord’s will to bless you with kids, what kinds of boundaries will you be setting up around your kids and your social media accounts? How much will you share about their lives and what they are doing? Also, how do you feel about people who post their kid’s lives on social media? Thanks a ton for being such a light to young adults and teenagers as well and for bringing such wisdom.

I have been in a long term serious relationship for almost 8 years. We actively have had friends of the opposite sex throughout our whole relationship. I think proposing the idea that women and men can't be friends once they are committed to someone romantically is a really unhealthy expectation to set. If you love the person you are with, being friends with someone of the opposite sex will not "tempt" you. I've always found that is a very strange idea that Christians propose as a relationship norm. It enforces the idea that women and men don't have value to one another outside romantic/sexual relationships, that attraction can exist only between men and women, and that we have nothing to learn from those of the opposite sex in our lives besides those in our immediate family. Just seems like a very limiting and small-minded approach to me. My friends of the opposite sex enrich my life without causing any insecurity or questions in my relationship and vice versa.
@tocamy82243 жыл бұрын
I think there is a difference between friends and best friends. My husband is my best friend, but I have some guy friends that I hand out within our friends group. But i would never share something to a guy friend that i would not share with my husband. Hope it makes sense

Could you elaborate on your perspective on financial boundaries in marriage. So far I have heard two perspectives with the similarity of still having a joint account. The only difference between the two perspectives is: one only has a joint account & the other is a joint account but each individual still an account of their own to spend on what they please.

I'm wondering how can a relationship works if one of the partners isn't confortable with his/ her beloved love-langage... Physical touch for exemple, if it's the most important thing for my partner to feel loved, but I'm inconfortable with it, what way could I find to make him/her feels really loved?
@ToriAndChad3 жыл бұрын
Well i mean people feel loved in 5 different ways, touch, quality time, acts of service, gifts and words of affirmation. So your partner will likely desire a little of all of them! But if you are not comfortable with touching your partner, I think that is something that a professional counselor would be better suited to help out with! I mean of course i think it is important for you both to come to the middle, where they understand that maybe you are not the most comfortable with physical touch and you also go to the middle and do your best to show them love with physical touch (as much as you are comfortable with) but also I think it would be important to unpack with a mentor or counselor why you feel uncomfortable with it... (I know that wast just an example! I was just replying specifically to it!)
@destinee73263 жыл бұрын
I would highly recommended reading the 5 love languages book for couples! He specifically talks about these type of problems in marriage! One example that he gave in the book that hit home for me was “when your partner expresses your love language, how does it make you feel?” (And obviously it makes us feel super loved) and then he goes on to say,” think about that when you choose to express your partners love language, they feel loved the way that you feel when they express your love language”. It’s not easy, but it’s worth putting in the effort to love your spouse. That’s what love is, it’s choosing to not always do what you want to do, but choosing to love them despite what you’re comfortable with.
@captainskywalker91633 жыл бұрын
@@ToriAndChad Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I agree with the "meeting at the middle", but do you think the relationship/ marriage could last with that? With one of the two missing some amount of physical touch he would like to receive and the other one forcing him/herself a little? P.S: I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I feel blessed I did, you two are really inspiring

It really is about what they are willing to "put up with" (for lack of better phrases)... everyone has different "non-negotiables" and for them that could be one of them... But if not then it may not be a worry at all! We just always say to not just focus on what keeps someone connected at 25-30 but build what will keep someone feeling connected at 55-60!
