she bought a men's sweater, of course it's too long, too wide, too whatever. Don't let the word "perfect" limit your options. Social media sells "perfection", which leads to inaction (why would i make something which is less than perfect?). It is not inspiring, it's toxic.
@ToTheKnitPoint3 жыл бұрын
@@stefandobroiu1968 Hi Stefan, I wasn't trying to make a 'perfect' piece. What is perfect anyways? I was just trying to do my very best at knitting the sweater. Thats why I fixed the mistakes I saw along the way. It's also a way for me to improve and learn as a knitter. The reason why I bought such a large sweater was to make sure I had ample yarn to work with. This is something a lot of people do when repurposing yarn from an old/thrifted piece. And me stating that it was '"too long, too wide, too whatever" was just an observation so I could compare how I wanted to transform it.
@stefandobroiu19683 жыл бұрын
hi, i was not commenting on what you do, but on what 3 small faces said about something being "less than perfect". I am suffering from toxic perfectionism and she may suffer from it, too. my comment was not at all directed to your knitting :)
@3smallfaces3383 жыл бұрын
@Stefan Dobroiu Hi Stefan. Perhaps "perfect" wasn't the most accurate word to use. I don't suffer from toxic perfectionism and was merely commenting on how To the Knit Point works so hard to only make pieces that she knows she will wear instead of pieces that will just sit in the back of her closet as she states at the end of the video. That's what I meant by not accepting something that is less than perfect to her. I hope that you would understand that my comment was to encourage her and was not at all intended to offend anyone who may see that comment.

Wow, that is some serious dedication! I was a knitter for a long time but I recently switch to crochet because it's *so* much easier to fix mistakes. 17:20 i got to this point and literally gasped out loud and went "oh my god girl no...." i see both sides of wanting something you do to turn out perfectly, but also the beauty of making something handmade could be in its imperfections (as corny as that sounds). i really commend you on how hard you work (i've tried planning a pattern from scratch - it's not that easy!!), and i hope this sweater didn't give you too much stress :( i'm so excited for part 2!! ps. i love how you edit and light your videos, everything is so beautiful and well-thought out 💟💟

I’ve never tried to reuse yarn, but maybe I’ll have to give it a go. I’m extremely fussy when it comes to my work too. Some people will leave mistakes and say it makes it “unique”, but I’m not one of those people at all. My eyes pick up on mistakes even when I’m not looking for them 😂 . I have to go back and fix my work no matter how much work I have to take a part or how many times I have to retry it. If I am going to to make something it has to be to the best of my abilities and I’m not going to be lazy and leave in mistakes or just carry on because I can’t be bothered to fix it, that’s not me at all, You must be a very patient person. I can’t wait to see what you come up with and see the perfect fit for you. Good job on all that work you did. 👍🏼

@@the_good_citizen I think it depends on perspective. Knitting has taught me that things that are worth having/doing tend to take time. Plus, the pleasure of seeing something being formed by my own hands is always so gratifying so its worth it for me.

@@the_good_citizen Maybe to a point, if would definitely depend on who the project is for, say a gift or an order. If someone has spent their money, time, love and effort into a project/order then for me I would not leave a mistake in it…especially if it looks out of place. I’m not someone who sees mistakes as “unique” I see a mistake for what is it..an error and I would try to correct it. I don’t mind spending my time fixing mistakes or laddering down etc. The best knitters/crocheters make mistakes, that’s normal, but it’s how it’s dealt with afterwards and how someone learns from said mistake that is key to improving skills imo. 🧶😊

I’m really drawn to the piece of music your video has in the opening section, so calm and soothing. Shazam cannot identify it . I’d really like to be able to Spotify this. Can you tell me what it is?

This is inspiring thank you! I’ve been a knitter for a long time but I am hate to unravel my work to fix mistakes. If I have to unravel I get discouraged and then stop knitting that piece for a long time. Im also terrified I won’t be able to pick up all the stitches again.

Thanks so much :) Try using a smaller needle to pick up the stitches. It's a lot faster and easier :) Hope this helps!

Hello! I love your tutorials so much! Though I'm mainly a crocheter, you've inspired me to start knitting Could you please make a video on how to knit a basic sweater and how to understand written patterns? I find that very confusing Also, could you explain the needles that you need, for a beginner, to knit a sweater? THANK YOU 😊
@ToTheKnitPoint3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. For the time being, you can check other videos here on youtube that cover knitting basic sweaters. Just type in 'knit basic sweater'. As for needles, I recommend starting with a basic knitting kit because they usually include the most commonly used knitting needles sizes in them. Or you can check the label on the ball of yarn. It will always have the recommended needle size to use for the weight of yarn. As for reading written patterns, I recommend reading the abbreviations out loud while you read the pattern. This is how I started as well. Hope this helps!

I'm not gonna lie, I was REALLY upset to see all of your work come apart at the end after all that effort and time. However, I know that this was also a learning experience for you and I know that is super important! I just hope that when you finish the sweater it's something you absolutely love and feel really proud of. I also feel better about all the times I've scrapped crochet projects for things for myself because I didn't like how they looked. Speaking of, I had NO idea that a crochet hook could be used to fix loose stitches in a column. That's crazy 🤯
@ToTheKnitPoint3 жыл бұрын
LOL Using a crochet hook to fix loose stitches is a technique I love using! And yes, after 5 years of knitting, I am still learning and trying to get better - even if it's just for a basic top down raglan. I guess that's the joy in knitting for me :) Thanks for the comment!

if you do these projects often I recommend investing in a ball winder and swift! It allows for much easier and faster organization of yarn :)

@@ToTheKnitPoint so did you unravel the whole thing again? Since it showed you were not happy at the end. How many hours of knitting did the project finally take to complete?

@@the_good_citizen Yes, I unravelled everything at the end of the video. I'm not sure how many hours it took exactly, but I started the project around Halloween and knit it during my spare time.

I personally wouldn't do this. I feel like if I wanted a sweater to perfectly fit I would make one myself not destroy someone else's hard work that someone else could very easily appreciate. I completely understand why your doing it though! Wool can become very expensive. This is some serious work and dedication. I just personally could never see myself doing this to a sweater I just bought. But really cool to watch none the less!
@ToTheKnitPoint3 жыл бұрын
I can see why you feel this way. I did like the original cabled sweater. It just wasn't my size, and I've always wanted to try unravelling & reusing yarn. Plus, I felt I could get more affordable yarn this way. Next time I'm going to try to find a much more affordable sweater to unravel. Probably a thrifted one. I'm glad I got the unravelling experience with this one though!

@ToTheKnitPoint3 жыл бұрын
I currently use Loops & Threads aluminum circulars and DPNS and for the bamboo/wooden needles, I use Clover takumi needles. These needles work perfectly fine for me and I have been using them ever since I first started knitting. I haven't tried other brands, so I can't really give a good recommendation... However, I will say these are great if you're a beginner because they are easily accessible and affordable :)

If you do this more often get a swift for skeining the yarn. Way easier... and a ball winder... For the double layered collar, you can make a provisional cast on, so you have live stitches and could knit them together with your last row of the collar and then proceed to the raglan part... no sewing needed...
@ToTheKnitPoint3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! That's such a good idea, I might have to try it for my next sweater project :)

Even though I live the drape of knitted garments, I’m too time poor and put down my projects a lot, leading to dropped stitches and frustration. Whereas crochet is so much more forgiving but just doesn’t look the same. I am a crocheter now. I still use knitted ribbing on my adult sized and older child sized garments.
