When solos were wrote from shredding emotion, just feeling the vibe and letting the fingers fly

Those are my favorites... where you can tell the player was just going for it, and then the magic happens :)

LOL thanks bro. It's funny you say that because back in the '80s, I had the Steve Lukather instructional video tape from Star Licks, where he teaches you a bunch of his licks from various songs. While I was doing my research and working on my transcription for this solo, I noticed someone posted a copy of that old video tape here on KZbin. Lukather tries to explain part of this solo, and it sounded off to me. Then I found an interview online with him where he was talking about how he was totally unprepared for that video shoot, and just winged it LOL. What he teaches still sounds cool though :)

The second solo that fades out the song "Gypsy Train" from the album Kingdom of Desire is a frickin monster of a solo! That would be a great one to tackle.

Hey thanks Mark! Starting with the Les Paul, it has Super Distortion pickups (I'm using just the bridge pup for this solo). From there, I run the guitar through a Line 6 Helix, and then into my PC where I mix audio/video. I mix using Vegas Movie Studio, and often will do some audio EQ tweaking via Vegas too.

@PDXguitarfreak7 ай бұрын
Not according to multiple interviews with him, where he specifically says he was 19 when recording it. Unless, he was doing the "let's lie about our age" thing like Van Halen did :)
@johnvirga61817 ай бұрын
@@PDXguitarfreak He/They may have wrote the song in 76 as they were playing together just not officially as Toto, who knows then but all accounts today he states his age that would have made him 21, he was killer then and still to this day. Can't imagine how many songs this guy played on that few would even know it was him. Late 70's throughout the 80's he was on everyone's albums.
@PDXguitarfreak7 ай бұрын
I hear you regarding his age... I initially thought he was 20 based on my math. As for the recordings, Wikipedia says he has played on over 1500 recordings. I know we can't necessarily trust that source, but its the only number I can find :)
