Our danish commentators also mentioned that that team was testing new crafted carbon wheels, which supposedly is more stiff, which combined with the tire being slick and the route literally being over the line, cause the crashes.

@@jaybobd I agree that's a potential downside, but some of that could be minimized by making it a little longer than a Prologue, or possibly incorporating some climbing. Do we really think big budget, super-athletic teams are NOT gaining an advantage having 7 strong horses out in front over _the other 20 days?_ The teams that go Top 5, even Top 10 in the TdF are almost always "Big Budget," and you'd be surprised how the top team in the TTT changes amongst them.

Well not really. Team time trials are a simple fix dump the tt bike out of it. Hell dumping the tt bike all together would be a good move. That would even things up. If you dump the the tt bike and not design the tt for climbers like this years crap it would do wonders keeping the standings close. The real problem is it is bad TV. The best part of the TT today? Dudes rolling in, maximum effort, drool pouring out of their mouths, reaching for water, stat. It's the ALL OUT effort that's so great to watch.

The commentators also said that Pogacar suffers a good bit more in hot and humid weather than Vingegaard, which also played a fairly big part. I was dumbfounded by Jonas' performance. Equipment yes, but in terms of aerodynamics Jonas just seemed to maintain a far better body position including staying seated the entire race, while Pogi after swapping bikes was facing much more air. I think JV with Jonas invested more effort optimising the position and having Jonas train in it.
