I am Indian from kerala state I never even looked a women wrongly in my life but when I go out with my mom for a walk my fellow country men just stares at her like hungry hounds from hell, it makes us very uncomfortable . One day when she walked without me and one guy on a motorcycle tried to I can't say the r word because its my mom I am uncomfortable using that but the reality is he tried it. and when she fought back, he ran with his motorcycle. This happened not in the darkness of the night but on a sunny day on the middle of the road. When she complain to the police the answer from police will make you appall they, asked my mother for evidence for the attempted thing. But my mom never gave up she investigated herself after some investigation she found a cctv footage from nearby convince store. She collected it and went to police and gave them evidence. The judge ordered the arrest of the perp, then he was arrested by police and got jail for his actions. I was there in court for the hearing the judge was a women she empathised with my mom and gave the perp maximum sentence, and told police that they are useless corrupted officers. After sentencing people from the perp side most importantly his wife came and told my mom that please reach a settlement and take down the case because, they had two girl child's yes you hear me he have two girl child's. You be the judge.

I'm an Aussie guy married to an Indian woman. We went to the city she grew up in before COVID and it was extremely unsettling. Indian men are really, really controlling of their women, so to be a white guy married to an Indian woman was asking for trouble in a way I didn't expect. The sexual violence over there is insane. My wife was embarrassed about it, I think she looked back on India with rose-coloured glasses before we went (she came to Australia when she was young so she had forgotten what it was like). I can safely say we'll never be going back there again. There's a reason there are so many stereotypes about Indian men being creeps and sexual predators, it's not true for every Indian guy, a lot of Indian men are great people, but a lot of them aren't... Like, a lot.

Hi Aba and Preach, Im SO glad you brought this to attention this is a huge problem in India and i would suggest everyone to please not visit India. Im saying this as an Indian myself. Im an 18 year old girl and I've experienced forms of sexual harassment, which is normalized here and I hate it being normalized. I just want to say that PLEASE stop visiting India, let the tourism rates fall and only then the government will look into this. Honestly, 50% of this problem is because of corrupt politicians and government it's a huge problem here but everyone's afraid to speak out. If someone talks against a politician they get killed, well this doesn't happen as often but has happened enough times to not ignore. SO PLEASE stop visting India ESPECIALLY females it's for your own safety. If the tourism rates fall the government will obviously look into it and will try to do something and only visit after 5-7 years after they've actually done something for women's safety. I know that is a long time but everything happens slow here cuz of the damn politicians.

My partner is Indian and I'm surrounded by his male friends everyday. From what I've observed, the reason why SA is so prevalent in India is because the culture is super religious and conservative. Sex and relationships are considered extremely taboo to the point where even fully grown adults have to hide their relationships from their parents. Porn is highly frowned upon. Sex education is not taught at school let alone the concept of consent, and parents don't teach it either. At my partner's school, they kept girls and boys apart in class, training boys from an early age to be scared of interacting with girls and see them as 'other'. I've also observed that women are still partially seen as property since they get married off young and shipped off to live with the husband's family as personal maids/cooks after the marriage. All these factors basically come together to produce generations of horny, sexually frustrated men who have no access to sex, don't know how to interact with women, don't understand consent and see women as objects. It's really sad.

The solution of the village members was for the girl to marry one of the boys to “keep her honour” and not to ruin the boys’ life. Quick story: In the early 2000s i worked in a night club in an area of canada with a high immigration rate from India. We used to have to forcefully stop newly immigrated males from physically dragging women out of the club. I mean, kicking and screaming, being physically dragged from the club by these men. Happened about once a week. It seemed like they did not understand why they weren't allowed to just physically scoop a woman and dip out. It was wild.

Unfortunately, what's happened in Canada is that a lot of the immigrants that come from India are from a part where things are almost "feudal", like many are landowners who got rich from selling land and are politically connected in their villages and towns. There were even problems in the capital 10-20 years ago where this group of entitled people would get out of their car and shoot a person they crashed into because of road rage, and very little would happen. Nowadays there is more public pushback and increasingly improved law enforcement, so things like these are getting rarer. But these type of people are still unfortunately around (the incident with the bikers happened in a region which is like this). As an Indian person, I can tell that type apart. In more cosmopolitan parts of India like Mumbai, women regularly leave clubs at 2 or 3 am and I've never really seen that sort of thing happen.

Fairly sure head was smashed down, my bag spilled everywhere next thing I'm crowd surfing with a bunch of newly immigranted or in the process, idk, indian men trying to get me out. I was so close when I came to, to being out the door. I had to start fighting back quickly & create a screaming fighting fuss that caused people to be alerted & some step in. I always wonder how close I really was because the only English they had was screaming "GET THE CAR OUTFRONT" repeatedly. Always make people see you in these situations fight yell make yourself scene in public before you are swept away alone with them.

this is the problem with such misleading statistics as " a woman is raped every x minutes " I have no issue with saying that woman safety needs to be improved and laws need to be strengthened But the sheer ignorance and hypocrisy to claim that india is the worst in this aspect is frustrating. anyone with a cursory knowledge of maths and statistics would know that the relevant statistic to look at is "number of rapes per capita " Because guess what, india has a HUGE population. So, ANY statistic that does not present the per capita figure is likely to have india near the top. So, it is easy to just present any such data and try mislead the audience. So, please, stop , think about it logically and please look at the per capita stats, not the total number. But of course that would ruin the narrative propagada of " uncivilised brown people ". because that would show that USA has among the highest number of per capita rape incidents. and india is way below all these so called "developed countries" of USA, australia, japan, Canada, UK, Australia, Belgium , New Zealand, Norway, United Kingdom, France, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark and by the way guess what is the corresponding figure for USA for the " every x minutes a woman is raped". It is in the single digits . Yet , somehow the " dirty brown people" are the ones who have this problem, and not the western white countries. i am disappointed that even Aba and preach who are able to see through bullshit all the time fell for this narrative.

I have always wanted to visit India, and I think in more ways than not, the country, people and culture are wonderful. As a sole female, I must admit, I never felt it was the right time. I had hesitation due to stories I read/heard about. Now, is this case, or the others against Indian woman, representative of the whole culture? I cannot comment. I do not have enough insight. I can only say in University in Canada I had an Indian guy be my housemate. He was always completely respectful of my privacy, showed genuine concern for my well-being, and acted like a gentleman. Regardless, I still have not been to India. I cannot say with certainty I would feel comfortable going there, even if I were dressed culturally appropriate. Even if I went with my husband. Then again, I have many female friends who have gone on their own and only had wonderful experiences. This dilemma is a dozy. I hate the idea of judging a whole society by incidents.. however, this does continue to give me hesitation about visiting the country.

and you expect new zealand to be not backwards? Come on - we knew about it being backwards for decades. I believe everything we do is racist - so saying that is just dismissive and stating the obvious, because honestly - I feel being a racist is beneficial and if anything - necessary - if you're trying to avoid issues. Nothing should be wrong with that, yet society says so. I mean society has a point - avoiding everyone just because your own life is threatened will hurt others - but as long as you're informing everyone and not hurting others - then it's a net good to be racist for one's own life if it helps and doesn't hurt. Racism is a tool - for good or bad - telling people it's only bad is just misleading and unfortunately - it's villainized to the point of people having consequences upon them - and so we should stop before more innocent people get unfairly treated and hurt. I tried to speak up about how racism isn't always bad, but sometimes good and even I was told how bad I was and everyone hated me for it. But I don't care - I'll keep saying it over and over again till I'm heard - because the people that protect racism are the ones who weaponize it the most - and I will be there to protect those on the other side of the atrocities - the ones that get hurt the most from it.

Should the place been invaded, it was custom to slaughter all of the women and girls as they could have been violated. Indian woman here and yes this country is not safe...no I am definitely not generalising my own country...but safety is a big issue. All people do here is either victim blaming and if not that then talk about other countries. I know there are other countries dangerous for women too ..heck, no country is completely safe for women but a lot are way safer....and the country that claims to be a superpower has to work on its groud social infrastructure first.. this and including a whole lot of other issues. Majority of men are good, but even among them a lot of them fail to understand the gravity of the situation.

There are a lot of problems with India as a country and a lot of double standards with how society perceives the behavior of men in that country. Long time viewer from India here, wanted to give a perspective of a native resident. India essentially has the textbook definition of a '**** culture' festering in just about every state in the country. A lot of cases have popped through the years. The Nirbhaya case of 2012 is one of the most infamous of such cases ( you may look it up as there is a lot of information to fit in just one comment). Many of these political officials are so radically dogmatic that they will consistantly try to blame the victims of these heinous crimes rather than take any actionable steps towards these cases. Even the children especially of impoverished backgrounds aren't spared of these atrocities. And just when you think it can't get any worse than this, it most certainly can. There have been several cases of animals, many being domestic animals, being ******. The worst part is that there are several more of these cases go unreported,as you guys pointed out. Mix in religious dogma, shame, victim blaming, honor killings, and you get this festering carcass of a situation of this country. Even though my generation and millenials express our outrage at these incidents, most political officials often wave away our cries, thanks to rampant corruption that has long existed in our government bodies. P.S: Always appreciate every video you guys put out.

I decided I wanted to see a Bollywood movie at a local cinema. As I was leaving the cinema around 12-16 men and teenagers followed me. I turned to challenge them as to why were they surrounded me and showed them I was pissed. The driver quickly told me to walk fast and hurry up and get to the car. I was more annoyed than anything. But the driver was very concerned about my safety. I also went solo to Pakistan, I had a very safe experience and better experience there. All the Pakistani men were extremely respectful.

I'm an African college student currently studying in the Punjab state. And i know the dangers. Much that I'm scared to travel to places alone, to go to the mall in the evening alone, even walk to markets alone. In the evening, I'd get a car of Indian guys asking me to get in their car. I'm not stupid to go in obviously, even with Ubers, I'm concerned. One time; i ordered a bike ride to home, on a popular Indian ride app. The rider was an older man, 40s-ish. He told me to wrap my arms around his waist since it was a motorcycle but he kept moving my hands down to his crotch. And as i was about reach my place, he wanted to drive me someplace else. I said no, but he drove away from my destination anyway. I thought i was being nabbed right there and then. And almost wanted to hop off the bike. Luckily, i saw a fellow African student on the sidewalk and called out for help! The rider mightve known it there, so he immediately turned around and took me back to my destination. I wasn't showing fear but i was clearly pissed off. He asked that I'd give him 5 stars for the service. But I wanted to yell at him - unfortunately that would be seen as "disresepctful". But i was like; AW HECK NAW, IM REPORTING HIS AHH TO THE COMPANY. AND I GOT HIM FIRED. RIGHTFULLY SO. Since then, i kinda enclosed myself in my own room more often. I don't go out no more than a block away from my place, or to unfamiliar places - at least not without company.

I have travelled extensively in India for a period of 9 months mostly on my own ( I'm a white man and was in my 30s ). On at least 5 occasions I was befriended by random Indian men who very quickly, within 10mins, steered the conversation to the topic of sex where they were trying to get me to talk about white women, it was really creepy. On most occasions I made my excuses and walked away but with one guy he followed me and wouldn't let it go until I completely lost it and got right in his face and threw him to the ground, he had absolutely no comprehension about why I got so angry. I walked into a train station in South India at around 9pm, a white girl ( she was a backpacker early 20s ) came rushing up to me, she looked like she had been crying, and asked for my help because she was being harassed by a couple of Indian guys, I didn't witness it directly but they quickly walked off when they saw me. I think that it should be properly addressed that India is not a safe place for women, if you are going there then please make sure that you are with a group of friends with at least 2 or 3 men and stick to areas popular with tourists.

Stuff like this is so common here that it doesn't even make the front page. We have had communities carrying out protest marches because someone from their group got arrested for ***e or child ***e, look it up. ***e is considered a crime by Indian society only if it is committed against a social equal or superior. If you ***e someone from a marginalized community, then it is called a 'mistake'. Unfortunately she did not survive and the international backlash was so severe, four of the adults were hanged, one was found dead in his cell of suspected suicide and the juvenile was sentenced to three years in juvenile reform. Of course, not before one of the perpetrators was brazen enough to say she shouldn't have been out with her 'boyfriend' at night. Welcome to the rest of the world. Only the West has things like actual equality and women having rights. And apparently those women are very oppresssed in here. I wonder what the blue haired feminist who's very concerned about micro-aggressions would think if she had to survive for a year in India. That's the world we live in: the places that actually need feminism and reform are left alone and discarded because "we aren't racist" and instead we turn to places where women have been free for a century and condemn them as sexists and backwards. Clown World.

Burning women alive was a very common occurrence in India. In fact, every time a man died, they would burn his wife alive with his corpse. This was called Sati. The British, under Lord William Bentinck, put an end to the practice. He witnessed people planning Sati and told him that they would burn the woman alive because her husband had died. He said they couldn't do it; they replied that it was their culture and to keep his nose out of it. Lord William Bentinck said, fine, do it, but know there will be reprecussions. The next day, he arrived with an army, and the Indians got scared and gave up the practice of Sati.

As an Indian and a man I would not travel to certain areas of India myself. There is no telling what kind of people you could encounter. It's dangerous to assume that you are safe even when everyone is being friendly and nice you. Especially if you are a foreigner. And if you are a woman or with a woman multiply your caution 10X. There is a huge problem with women's safety here and nobody takes it seriously. It's illegal to check the sex of a baby in India because there are many families that will abort the baby if it's a girl. So a girl is not even safe in the womb.

I'am from Calcutta, and our culture is Goddess-centred (Shakti culture). Our people firmly believe without the Divine-Feminine or Women, humanity would cease to exist. A reason people are VERY respectful towards women here. And a birth of a daughter is often seen as a symbol of abundance and prosperity, often said Goddess Laxmi has come to our household. Our language, Bangla, is completely gender-neutral as well. There's no feminine or masculine characteristics in it. So that plays in with our psyche too. Guess what? The entire Northern & Western states of India HATES us for it! Yes, you read that right! They hate the fact we love and celebrate our women. And often talk ish about Bengali women because we refuse to put up being abused or dominated by anybody. We don't even let our own men get away with it. I have been living here for a very long time. I have never been catcalled or harrassed here in any way. And it is completely safe to go for a stroll at or after midnight, nobody bothers you (of course the police are on night duty at every corner, they will casually ask you where you headed for safety purposes but that's about it, they friendly). We often go out for take-outs at midnight, faced no issues. I never felt the same while living in other states. I firmly believe the local culture and mindset of people in each state/region is equally responsible for incidents like these. While you will see women being celebrated in my Bengali culture, at the same time you'll get to see Haryanvis comitting female infanticide casually and Rajasthanis wedding off there 8 year olds with same or much older men. India is a too much of a big country (3rd largest in Asia) to see it as a whole. The couple who faced such brutal assault was unfortunately in Hindi-belt (North & West states). They are known for their rampant crimes against women.

My friend Lisa went to India years ago, went to Goa as she knew it was 'safe' as there are a lot of tourists there. She went to the beach just after midday and was lying there for about 10 mins, looked around and saw a group of 10-12 men standing 20 yards from her, masturbating. Her report to the police and locals was met with 'dont sunbathe on the beach'. The attitude of the police in India has never changed. On the other side, there are men there who are vehemantly against SA and know its a problem, unfortunately they are outnumbered.

She didn’t deserve what happened to her, but she should do her research before traveling. That is NOT appropriate in many places in the world. Leave your “women should be able to…” at home and look out for YOUR own best interest. As a woman who’s traveled the world, I read about the culture I’m going to and mimic dress and modesty level of the local women. I even wear a wedding band in highly patriarchal countries. I grew up watching Indian movies and in a lot of those movies, grape and men sexually harassing women are shown as par for the course or that the women are playing hard to get; its even shown as comedy. Its only when I grew up I saw it for what it was and just couldnt stomach it especially when I realised its just a depiction of how a lot of them really think; the sexual harassment, the blatant colorism etc. Its a problem that is widely tolerated by their society ( you can see that just based off how the authorities and religious ladies comment on it) and I dont think thats gonna change anytime soon. The best thing to do is stay away from there, my heart really goes out to the women living there and dealing with this type of wickedness on a daily basis.
