They may not speak English, so don't react to the words. They did react to his gestures. As for coming back into the cleared space, it might be the same or similar issue. They went behind the bollards because everyone was being sent there. But time passed with nothing happening (yet, of course), and I'm sure many people have no idea why they were herded away, so try to come back in for their almighty photo.

The most important “right” is to completely ignore any requests to move To ignore the signs about grabbing the reins on a horse, they have obviously been put on a horse, so that you can have a photo taken of you holding them, To stand inside the box, next to the Guard, as he’s an actor dressed as a soldier, so no one should mind To touch the horse as much as you like - if the horse gets jittery, then it’s not been properly trained!

@@kathellison8084 You are totally missing the point. In most of the west, 3 stripes is always Sergeant. 2 is always corporal. But this corporal of the horse rank has 3 stripes like a Sergeant. And is in fact apparently equal to a Sergeant rank across the armed forces. I think that might also mean he is paid as a Sergeant.

Yes his rank of Corporal of Horse is equivalent to Sergeant in other regiments so he will be paid as a Sergeant ! HCMR used to be titled gentlemen and Queen Victoria thought Sergeant sounded too much like servant hence the name change to Corporal of Horse .

To explain the different jobs, though, anything connected with public duties is the military's job (ceremonial, briefing and marshalling the public, opening and closing gates, etc,) which is why they have spare staff to do that, and it's the MoD Police's job to provide area security and policing. Ultimately, though, the MoD Police have authority in the immediate vicinity of MoD areas while the military don't, so there's some overlap outside, but it's not the police's job to marshal the public unless they break or are likely to break the law.
