Many Thanks! I have an '89 4x4 PU w/22re. Runs Great, but is "clattery" especially on cold start. Was getting ready to adjust valves, But thanks to you, will seriously inspect timing chain/guides & replace if needed. If so, learning from your trial/error will greatly assist!

Thanks for watching, I could even hear mine a little on the highway, I think that particular sound was the chain against the timing cover. Glad I took it apart to fix.

I have an 89, 22RE, 4x4 as well with 112k and I have just discovered that the driver's side chain guide is completely gone

Our 90, with 320k miles has the same lovely noises. Need to get it ready to sell. Parts kit only just over 100 bucks off Amazon. but I don’t have air tools so not sure I can get it apart. Thanks for the knowledge anyway 👍🏼

There are timing index on those engines to remove the guess work :)) I suppose you have god on your side
