A great car no doubt fun as hell to drive, I understand the compliance's they have to meet under the regs over in Europe and the UK and the overall powertrain, chassis rigidity and interior revisions all make for a better new vehicle, the price increase is a full 1/3 more which just priced itself out of the market fro new young customers who want a hot hatch AWD can no longer look at this , if you saw the prices of the GR Corolla sister car here in Canada and the US you'd spit your coffee out and say what the heck is going on, I was considering one here in Canada and was quoted the MSRP and was called by the dealer when it arrived and went to see it, asked what happened , it was $20k more than quoted from the same person, he said no, i pulled out his card with his signature on it, he said Toyota made the price increase, so i went and called a Toyota dealer in Vancouver and was the same franchise owner and they told me they dealer owner marked it up $20k and they would sell it to be for MSRP if i flew to Vancouver to but it from them and then i told him it was his Winnipeg Store and i quickly took a photos of the business card of the salesman and text it to him and he'd call back to verify it and he did call back to my surprise and i was ready to book a flight and go buy the car from them and suddenly they would no longer sell me the car under any circumstance even if i payed the gross mark up price, they called it back handed, i did 10 years in the business and we simply new as customers cross shopping one dealer to the next, so in the end after i spoke to the controller of the dealership he agreed it was handled very badly especially from me having 10 yrs in the industry and agreed to sell it for only $10k over MSRP, I passed and walked out refusing to buy from greedy bastards 💩

Can someone please explain to me why the engineers decided to stiffen the front spring rates, roll bar and shocks on a car that is prone to understeer? The one thing the old car seemed to lack was an element of oversteering fun. It was almost impossible to bring the back out. All seems counterintuitive to me, other than a degree of increased turn in sharpness (which I didn't think was a problem on the old thing). What am I missing?
@DrPTAndroidStuff3 ай бұрын
The only thing I can think is that the little bit of extra power and torque might help to unstick all four wheels, which is what you might want for drifting with this 4wd set-up. Perhaps then the little bit of extra response from the front axle is helpful, but I'm clutching at straws really 🤷♂

Can confirm , i had a MK1 GR Yaris i got for $39500 (in $AUD) drive away Amazing car for the money , shines on the skidpan and twisty roads. $ for $ nothing else in that category comes close for that price range. Sold it an upgraded to a FL5 Type R , definitely a huge step up , Faster and much better cornering capability (much wider tyres + LSD + electronic dampers) it shines on higher speed curves , perfect on long drives due to the longer wheelbase and better return on fuel economy (got 10L/100km on FL5 and 11.5L/100 on GRY , now running 18s so i am getting 9.2L/100km/h). My only regret is it consumes tyres and brake-pads a lot more then the GR Yaris because its heavier but overall enjoyment factor is better. GR Yaris is a special car but its not worth that kind of money , you would be better off even getting a GR Corolla at that point if its available to you (same engine/drivetrain and more practical) Absolute MUST upgrade for the GR Yaris/Corolla is the Eventuri Intake (+20-25nm of torque and a little extra HP). As for the FL5 it only needs an anti-lift kit to perfect the front end whilst cornering , powerflex have started to make kits for the rear-front arm , when stock the front-end feels a little light diving in corners at high speed (even in R mode) but the rear is always planted. This should fix it by giving it more caster - sitting it a little lower and also allowing for more neg camber gain. Final Word - If any of you reading this has the ability to test-drive any of the cars above , then add a MK3 Ford Focus LE to your list (you might be pleasantly surprised) We are in the final age of performance ICE cars guys , enjoy it while it lasts.
