The Nissan melted dashboard repair issue led to a class action lawsuits in FL, where Nissan agreed to repair a melted dash for a $250 deductible, but only for Florida residents.
If you live in another state and you have a cracked dash you have to file your own Nissan Class action lawsuit to get a melted dashboard repair.
We also heard that some Lexus IS 250 owners were complaining of cracked dashboards. This Lexus cracked dashboard repair issue hit thousands of Lexus vehicle owners who suffered either melted dashboard or cracked dashboard repair issues. In the warmer states many Lexus owners had Lexus melting dash issues.
This is not a Lexus cracked dashboard recall!
We hear from owners with melted dashboards who are the 2nd or third owner, and it's unfortunately too late, because if the first owner did not find out about the enhanced warranty repair for the melted dashboard, and the warranty period expired in 2017, then you are out of luck. Thank you for posting the video, very informative. Here's my story. I bought my Lexus 2005 RX330 model on September 4th 2014. I got the letter in 2017 so I took the car to the local Lexus dealership and because I use good leather conditioner and cleaner at that time, my dashboard was considered fairly pristine. Fast forward to about six months ago. My wife noticed a crack starting above the glove box. I called Lexus and they basically flipped me the finger and told me they would meet me halfway charging me $2,500 for the dash and install it for free oh, that is the biggest crock of bullshit I have ever heard in my life. My wife and I, and this is no exaggeration, have spent close to $200,000 in Lexus and Toyota products since 2014 when I bought my Rx. That night my wife rolled out in a 2 year old Toyota Camry, 2 years later she turned it in and got her first, that's right her first nx200t she leased that for three years and then went to a Toyota RAV4 and drove it for a year. She didn't care for it and as of 11 days ago bought another NX300. During that time I also purchased and IS250. I traded it in for a 2016 Lexus RC on January 10th. Okay kids do the math that is a lot of Toyota and a lot of Lexus products. You think they could afford a dashboard for a family who has spent money like that in a mere seven years. If you add up what we paid approximately 30 to 35000 per vehicle well it adds up close to $200,000. I had contact with Lexus Financial and every chance I get I bashed Lexus for their policy. I should not be penalized because every six months religiously I detail the inside of my car myself because I get such pleasure taking care of my ride. There are aftermarket dashboards available that I am looking into because there are two problems, one the value of the car completely diminishes and two, if you're like me you have to get in and look at that crap. The bottom line here is, they made an inferior product and should stand by it since these cars brand new off the lot for closer to 40 and $50,000 brand new. I am the second owner of my Rx and I literally told Lexus they could go f themselves. If you're going to charge that kind of money for that kind of automobile, you should use a superior product. Here's the kicker, I live in the Greater Los Angeles area. Granted I'm about three miles from the coast and yeah we get some salt and some moisture but that should not matter when it comes to Quality and standing by your product. I bought a $2,000 piece exercise equipment from the Nautilus Corporation a couple years ago. I've had a couple of problems with it and their customer service and repairs could not have been better. That is how you take care of a customer, a $2,000 StairMaster was treated like a $50,000 Lexus in their eyes and when necessary I will praise them every opportunity I get. My SUV is 16 years old and only have 55000 miles on it so I can literally drive that until I quit driving. Once again Lexus step up and stand by your product. If you're going to put shit in we shouldn't have to get shit out.. Or give discounts on the purchases knowing that the garbage you put in that car is going to diminish the value in just a few years. I know this is quite a long statement and I tried to make a long story short but, if you read this please click on the thumbs up and let me know how you feel. Hi Roy, I had the exact same predicament happen myself. I’m a first owner of a Lexus RX and have garage kept the car since day 1. My dashboard never showed cracks until 6 month after the extended warranty ended and I got the exact same response as you did from Lexus Corporate. If you ever find a cheaper solution for a replacement dashboard, please do share. I’m not a fan of these dashboard covers. And lastly I’m quite disappointed with Lexus, my family has bought Lexus products for years. Not sure I will be recommending them again.

The the only thing that makes me continue to buy the Lexus products is the fact that they are probably the best automobiles made from a mechanical standpoint, and that is from my closest friend in high school who was a very successful mechanic in the city of Glendora California. I am going to go to the local auto parts store and just order one of the cloth or carpet type - covers because my cracks are download near the cup holder on the left - by the steering wheel and down on the dashboard the glove Box. The hardest part with this is that the Toyota motor corporation has more than enough money to replace a - in what was a $35000 automobile brand new and the quality they used is not our fault but it is theirs.

Crap, I had been researching how to fix it for 1-2 years like before the deadline this lady mentioned in the video description, but I did not find this video until now. I always thought it was caused by parking on the street or something from the first owner or something (I am the 3rd owner). It started with pieces coming off on the passenger side but I have not idea to how fix it. I tried putting glue on it and new cracks are coming up. I got a 2008 RX350. Performance wise, it's great, but the cracks and chunks that came off are a pretty big eyesore. My 2001 Sienna still has a good dashboard. It parked in a garage the first 12 years and then on the street after we moved. As for the Lexus, unsure how it was parked before but been parked outside since I got it. F Lexus for using cheap vinyl for the dashboard.

Purchased a 2004 Solara in 09 (Florida) Dash started to crack and become sticky around 2011. Received info about dash replacement around Dec 2014 and had a new dash in installed in March of 2015. Very painless and very thankful to Toyota. Still have the car - only has 84000 miles.

I also have a 2004 Solara but with 197,000 miles. I never received a notice about the cracked dash repair. I read about it somewhere online couple years ago and called Toyota. Since I called a couple months after the repair deadline, they told me to pound sand. Was very disappointed that they wouldn't try to help. A lot of people want to blame Lexus for not getting the letter but I can tell you that people either moved and didn't update their address with corporate Lexus. Or maybe their email address changed in bounced. Lexus now has a new corporate site that you can register your vehicle online with them and that should at least alleviate this problem in the future.

Yes our Lexus dealer told us it would have been a $2300 repair for our 2004 Lexus GX470. We have seen posts on Club Lexus stating it was a $900 repair. Maybe it's model dependent, who knows. Maybe the service writer at our Lexus dealer was wrong? We simply don't know why the discrepancy. With a 5 hour or so labor at about $150 per hour, you can bet that $750 in labor alone seems about right, then you add in the cost of the dashboard part.

Wow' I have 2005 Tundra, no cracks or tears in dash/seats (I ordered cloth) or console. I have the 4.7, and have 336K trouble free miles, no smoke, no oil burning yet but' did just get my first non maintenance job to perform as I discovered I got a valve cover leaking while changing oil. Very easy to replace on it myself. Wife wants one of these little SUVs because she misses our 2007 4Runner. Can't locate a nice low mile 4Runner in our area but saw a 330 today. Anyone know for sure if the replacement dashes are holding up good? IDK if this RX we found has been replaced, have to verify that for sure. This sucks for those who lost out! I have a 2004 GX470 and Lexus replaced my dashboard in Nov 2020. They listed it as "customer goodwill" , and paid for 100% by Lexus. I was told the dash itself was 1500 and the labor to install it another thousand.

I bought a nice 2006 RX330 a few months ago. We love the car as it fits my short wife perfectly and the price was excellent. It is in very good shape with only a couple small dings and a little wear on the driver seat. Well, we noticed a few random small cracks this last couple weeks and we're rather upset. As much as we like this car, we might sell it now. We wanted something older with less tech, no payment, but wanted it to be a really nice car and the interior is where we spend our time while driving it, we want it to be about perfect.

At the time that Lexus did this warranty for this issue, it could be the 2009 models were not exhibiting the issue, so it was not part of the problem. But there is no way you'll get them to honor any warranty because first of all the warranty expired in 2017 for this repair. second your car was not part of the warranty, even if you are seeing issues with melting now. A lot of people who did not react back in 2015 when Lexus sent all of us owners the notice, they are all left out in the cold with no recourse.

The reason those cracks happen is due to cost cutting and using cheaper less durable materials which is very disappointing to see, given the high price of a lexus people would expect better quality and value for their money.

I had both of my 2008 LEXUS LS460 9 pieces panels replaced after two years of waiting . Owners need to bring their cars in for a ZLZ inspection before the parts are ordered !

The key is keep following up . Your service advisors are busy working on many clients everyday , you will never hear from him unless the parts are arrived . So keep calling the parts manger , he is the one who orders the parts and make sure notify the customer relation manager because she is the one will call you !

Yes, they can replace it, I have heard from people that it can cost $1500 to $2400. Not worth pending the money in our opinion. On cars this old, use that money for your next car! Also maybe try national databases of junkyards, maybe one has a dashboard in stock.

Same thing here - 06 GX470 with destroyed dash. I'm the second owner and never was made aware of the recall. Called Lexus and they said too bad. For my specific model the dash was about $1090 and install was about another $1000 through the dealer.

What about my case? I have had the car since 2014 and it is 8:25 and the cracks just started yesterday. I did get the letter and did get the recall notices, but at the time my car was not suffering from the issue. There are three Toyotas in my driveway Worth close to $80,000, I hope they play ball with me and fix this problem.

Roy, you made a major mistake not taking advantage of that free warranty. We just received notice of a recall on our 2013 Mercedes C250 on the airbags, and we have nothing wrong, but tool it in anyway because it is free. You should have done likewise. When a manufacturer issues a special warranty like that it is because they know failures will occur, so always best to take advantage.

Purchased my 2005 4Runner late 2021. It has bad dashboard cracking but not as bad as the examples shown in the video. I guess that's why I got a decent deal on it. I don't want to pull the dash to fix it because it'd take all weekend and there are several ways I could screw up the job. I'm looking for methods to repair it in place. I'll probably mask everything in the car, Dremel out the cracks, Bondo the enlarged cracks, sand smooth, solvent wipe to remove dust, spray a plastic adhesion promoter, then apply 3-4 coats of a textured black spray paint. I'll test the process to ensure the texture and color looks good before proceeding. That should be a decent cosmetic repair that will cost me six hours and less than $100. Someone should do this professionally. If they could do it in 2-3 hours and charge $400, that should be a viable business... or develop and sell a DIY kit that works better than the $120 molded ABS dash overlays that hide most of the damage but definitely look like a cover-up job.

I own my RX for past 15 years. Been garaged parked all this time and dash didn't crack the dash until I returned from overseas last months. I obviously did not need the replacement but the recall ended. We also did not get any notices either. Will get in touch with corporate see what they say.

No, like we mentioned in this video there is nothing you can do unless you want to try to sue Toyota, but with your car being years out of warranty, I doubt you will get anywhere with it. Best you can do is to is leave negative feedback for Toyota in various forums or opinion sites, or warn others on social media.

I have a 2004 GX 470 that I purchased new. I was never notified of any extended warranty on a cracking dash, and never noticed anything cracking....until last week. I only put about 6,000 miles per year on my GX, it's always garaged unless I'm out with it, and I have had it meticulously maintained, including treating the leather and dash regularly. I saw a video on the most common problems of a GX just last week, and they mentioned the cracking dash problem. I then looked at the dash carefully, and mine does indeed have a crack..it's a small hairline one, but a crack, on the brim of the dash over the gauges directly in front of the steering wheel. It goes from one side, across the brim, to the other side. I'm not happy about it, and the lack of a notification by Lexus. My vehicle has had every bit of service and maintenance work done by the Lexus dealer I purchased the vehicle from. My dealer never mentioned it either. I have not moved in 37 years, so Lexus certainly had my current address. I was never notified. I may have to have a discussion with my dealers service department.

I have a 2005 Prado that I purchased in 2013. I brought it back to the dealer for maintenance few times and I am sure that they have my contact details. However, when I emailed them recently about this cracked dashboard, they were saying that this is not considered as a safety recall. So they would not notify the owners. We have heard of other cases like yours where people did not get notified. Lexus corporate now has a page where you can register your car directly with them so they have your contact info, I think all brands have this now, good idea to make use of it in case there is a recall.

@@carbuying ​ . I went through the steps with Lexus Corporate first. I had a very helpful case manager who said I need to talk to the dealers service manager first. I did that, he took some pictures of the dash, and reviewed my 16 year long service record with that dealership, where I purchased the GX new in 2004. Every bit of maintenance and service has been done at my dealership since new. When I needed a new battery, it was purchased there...actually 4 of them. They last about 4 years. A new set of Michelin's..I bought them from the dealership as well. I then contacted my case manager and put the ball back in his court. He sounded optimistic, since he also had seen my long service history with the dealership I bought the GX from. Bottom line, I got a call from my Lexus case manager on Nov 19th, 2020, last Thursday, telling me the new dashboard was approved. My dealer called me on Saturday morning and said the new dashboard is in, and I have an appointment on Monday morning to have the new dashboard installed. Covered 100% by Lexus. Sometimes things work out, and I'm now a Lexus owner for life. You don't get if you don't ask.

I took my 2004 GX into my dealer's service department at 7:45 am this morning to have the dashboard replaced. They gave me a new Lexus NX to drive while they are working on it. I can't fault Lexus or my dealer for the way they have handled this. They've been great.

I have an 09 maxima SV. Dash is melted up top and around the vents and radio it's cracked and turning white. I'm attempting to seal the cracks and spray it with a similar color to try n make it look better. I have a dash cover but am just looking to fix around the radio. Maybe the vents too. We'll see. We're wondering why the previous owner did not get this fix implemented. All of who were original Lexus owners got the letter telling us about this warranty in 2015. I bet the original owner must have dropped the ball, I have heard of a few random cases where the original owner was never notified by Lexus, but could be a number of things, like they were not the original owner and thought they were, or they changed email addresses, or had incorrect contact info in the database, or they moved and never updated the address. I just found out last month my Mercedes dealer had a completely wrong email for me in their system that wasn't even related to my email address.

I have a 2007 ES 350 with 60,000 miles on it. My dashboard is sweating and cracking. I contacted the dealer here in Oklahoma which offered me nothing. And then contact Lexus corporate and after complaining for a while they offered to pay for $1500 of the $3000 repair. I'd push back on Corporate Lexus, esp. if you're the original owner and/or have other Lexus/Toyota vehicles in your fleet. Ask about a Goodwill repair. 50% may be all you get, but doesn't hurt (much) to push for more.

Sorry, Jason, there is nothing you can do, other than start a class action law suit like we mentioned in the video. Nissan was being very unsupportive to owners during their anguish, and it took a few owners in Florida filing a class action suit to even force Nissan in Florida to cover repairs, even then they had a face slapping deductible with the "free repair".

Unfortunately, I have been hearing from people for many years now about this that they have never received any notice from Lexus about this. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do because whether or not you received a notice the extended warranty they gave for this issue expired in 2017. There could be a number of reasons why people didn't get notified maybe they moved in so corporate Lexus did not have the most current address who knows.

Thanks for the video, I have had these problems also. I have a new problem now with my Pearl White paint. It is chipping off and to repaint this would cost me around 6500. dollars because they have to chip it all off. Toyota has the same problem with the pearl white and they will repaint it for you but I understand Lexus with not. I hear if you call Lexus they may or may not repaint it for you. This problem is only with the Pearl White finish to my understanding.

Yes, your car was on the list for coverage for IS 250/350 for model years 2006 to 2008. But they stopped honoring the special warranty for the dashboards 3 years ago in 2017.

Had our RX in to Magnussen Lexus at least a couple of times during the warranty coverage period for unrelated incidentals (battery replacement, wiper replacement) and at each instance we inquired about doing the dash replacement. At each instance we were told "parts weren't available for our vehicle". So we kicked the can down the road. Third or fourth trip in we were told that the warranty had expired. . . . . . . umm - - - wait a minute! No luck. We are SOL. We have been owners of two Lexus vehicles - other family members have followed in our footsteps and all totaled we own 5 lexus vehicles. We originally made the investment based on an assumption of great service. Our family will NOT be buying any Lexus/Toyota vehicles again.

Yes I think that Lexus and Toyota could have handled this entire situation a lot better, I think the honorable thing to do would have been to extend it a couple of more years once they saw the trouble they had with the huge wait in line . Once we got our dash replaced in October 2015 it seemed that word started spreading rapidly in large lists of customers 100 to 200 deep were forming in each Lexus dealership and some people were being told it was going to be two to three years on the waiting list and as far as I know a lot of them just never got theirs.

@@stephenm103 That depends on what year your RX is I guess so apparently the previous version of this warranty which was called the ZLD warranty, that one covered mostly cars from 2004 to 2009, and ended already in 2017 which gave most people a 10 year total warranty on the dashboard. This newer warranty appears to be mostly cars from 2009 and above and If there were not a lot of complaints on a particular model my guess is they won't add any warranty coverage for the dashboard

I have a 2006 Solara with the dash problem. I do ALL my own maintenance and as a result, I haven't had the car back to the dealer. Therefore, they never sent me a notification about the repair. It appears the letter is somehow attached to the service portion of the dealership and not the sales. I got a hold of someone higher in the food chain at Toyota and still was rejected. I talked up a good song, but could not get him to budge. He even eluded to the fact it was my fault for not taking the car back to the stealer, I mean dealer. Today I received a dashboard repair kit from Coverlay, a company that makes a covering for that car. What they don't seem to make is the glove compartment portion of the kit, but at least most of it will be repaired. Thanks for the information. If the repair kit does not work well, I will get a hold of my state's AG and file a complaint. Toyota deserves it. By the by, I also have a 2005 Tacoma. That truck was made with a weak head gasket that likes to quit at about 150K miles. Toyota hid behind a tree on that one too and didn't cover it, a $3000 repair.

It doesn't have anything to do with the dealer not having your address, the letters came from Corporate. A Lot of people reported not getting letters from Lexus. Some had moved, so Lexus never had accurate addresses.

I have a badly cracked dash on my 2005 4Runner that Toyota didn't fix because I'm the third owner and the second owner didn't get the not-a-recall notice. This isn't as bad as the not-a-recall on my Tacoma. It was the only car I've bought new. I got the notice of the repair or replacement of the prematurely rusting frame, because the steel frames were not dipped to prevent corrosion. I had a lathe in the pickup bed and asked the dealer if I could bring the truck in later in the month. I took it to the dealer in late October as agreed, believing I had until the end of December as the deceptively worded notice seemed to state. The dealer LAUGHED at me and told me I was two weeks too late. The truck had frame penetrating corrosion at 91,000 miles. I could no longer use it as a truck. I used it as a two seat car that got 20 MPG after that and scrapped it at 137,000 miles when the frame rusted completely in half. Toyota did nothing to compensate me for their manufacturing defect.

I had no idea --------AAAAAAAAhhh!!! and bought one of these 4 years ago. 2019, Dash was good at purchase or at least it did not draw attention during test drives. had a decent mechanic checked it too! in one year this Lexus RX 330 showed a small crack, and a Friend told he he had herd in the south everyone buys dashboard covers for RX 330s, So I did -covered the dash and forgot about it...a year later I noticed another crack showing where the Dashboard Cover was not covering , I lifted the dashboard cover and to my shock! there were cracks everywhere! Numerous design issues tail lights fill with water, console light went out, replaced it ...went out again. windshield angle makes blinding glare , seatbelt lock is too close to the body...I'm 5'10''' seat moves not enough up down back forward...VSC light comes on and off all the time overhead light switches are a mess to find, the automatic locking locks the doors when you dont want doors locked , The rear view mirror moves, faces the ground, so you cant use the rear view mirror backing up! does not warn you when you leave the keys in the car, or leave the head lights on....battery died in both situations.. both cigarette lighters stopped working. (dash and floor console)... I was warned it eats tires and burns gas. I replaced the headlights (Plastic headlights on a Luxury Car?) and they are still aun-djustable. (so says mechanic) This is off the top of my head, there is a list around here somewhere of all the weird WTF stuff thats wrong about this all wheel drive Luxury SUV with no trailer hitch!! Worst Car I've ever owned, by a Mile !! When did Toyota/Lexus become Chinese !

I would go with Maguire’s because Armor all is Alcohol based which eventually dries out the dash! I bought an Infiniti G37 year 2013 in 2020 and hope taking care of of the dash with constant detailing will prolong its life span because it still looks brand new! It is a pain I know. The offer they had to repair the dashboards was only in U.S.A and expired in 2017. With the age of your vehicle, do not spend any money on fixing the dashboard. The issues that Toyota/Lexus had was with their supplier, so you can bet they have anew supplier with more rigorous testing

The problem is the program ended in April, 2017. All Lexus dealers were involved in it. We got ours replaced at JM Lexus in Margate, fL in October, 2015 when the program was underway for a few months. We were one of the many lucky ones who jumped in early, called the dealer every 2 weeks to confirm our place in line. you won't find a single dealer doing it now, because the program ended nearly 4 years ago.

They would not fix the problem because the recall had ended before I knew about it. I will never buy another toyota or lexus again and will never service my current lexus and toyota with their dealerships again. You can save a few dollars from doing the right thing for your customer. Then you will lose a few thousands of dollars.

It wasn't a slip, many of us did not develop cracks until the vehicle was 6 years old, 4 years past the normal warranty. It's not like anyone saw these cracks coming. You can do testing, but this might just be one that falls through the cracks. Obviously the cars lasted through many years of cold and hot temp cycling which is what their advanced life testing tries to copy, but no one could have predicted this.

Which cars do you think are better quality? I think Toyota quality is going down, but, the crappy brands are getting worse, too, aren’t they? By the time Toyotas have a dashboard problem, most other cars are already off the road. Just my opinion.

I too have an IS350 with a terrible dashboard and terrible door panels. Some say it's covered or was covered and some don't mention it.

Lexus had an extended warranty on the cracked and melted dashboards, but it ended in 2017.

Hi there! I just bought a 2005 Lexus RX330 151k on it and it still looks amazing. I noticed before I bought it that the dashboard had cracks all over as the one of your Lexus. I was going to repair it because vehicle still looks amazing and came to your KZbin channel about it that they had a recall that ended 2017. Just recently I went to Lexus of Fairfield Connecticut to ask about it and of course they said it ended back in 2017. I said maybe the owner before me didn’t get a letter but now that I own it I would like to add my address as the new owner in the system which they did. They gave me a number to call which they gave me a case number. Just today they call me back with the same bla bla bla that it has expired on 2017. I still think it shouldn’t have expired because as you mentioned there were people still waiting and like you mentioned on your video they didn’t think a lot of owners had this dashboard problem. It was a bad manufacture on Lexus, Toyota and Nissan which they should take responsibility and get them fix regardless. I’m thinking to put a complaint to the BBB. Just to see how far I can get with it. Thanks for this information.

I don't think you will get anywhere with the complaint. Lexus already issued us a lengthy warranty extension on this dashboard through 2017, which for cars like our 2004 model, was 13 years after the model year, and it was 9 years after the warranty expired, so that was pretty generous. I think they did above and beyond. But lets face it many people did not respond to the letter Lexus sent out, and did not get on a waiting list. I have been guilty myself of not responding to actual recalls on our cars in the past. Just last month I took my daughter's Mercedes in for a recall of the air bag. So I don't know why the previous owner did not bring the car in, but I think you are going to be out of luck. I would suggest trying to find a used dashboard from a junkyard and getting your local Lexus dealer to replace it. You'll save the most money that way.

Useless video there should not have any dealine on replacement of the dashboard, is was made totally of poor quality, have a 20 yrs honda accord with no dash issues

We thought their warranty on this was quite good. They gave all of us until 2017. Our Lexus was a 2004, so we essentially got a 13 year warranty on the dashboard. Our 2004 GX470 was over 11 years old when we had our dashboard replaced.

No, you are saying it. I reviewed the process and showed that it ended 3 years ago, so people don't keep wasting time calling dealers, complaining to Lexus, etc.. Now a lot of trolls like you are spreading hate and slander come along, angry at the world, lashing out at people for no reason.

Lexus junk, had BMWs for 14 years, their leather never cracked. Our GX470 has cracked dash, seats, and armrest. Lexus never sent us any notification, and we found out about their repair program after it expired, even though they are over a year behind.

Yes that stinks falling through the cracks. Any idea why you never got a letter? Did they have your correct address, did you move?

I switched from a BMW to a Lexus in part because of my BMW interior cracking all over the place. The fake wood as well. My Lexus has a bad dashboard as well but at least it doesn't have a crappy engine. My BMW 328i started mixing it's fluids and needed the heads redone. I was told this was a common issue for BMW. I'll live with a cracked dash and a good engine I guess.

I thought Lexus did quite good in this, they extended the warranty on the dash to 2017, so in 2015 they repaired my dash that was 9 years old. That was fantastic. Some people obviously fell through the cracks, while others never responded to the letters from Lexus to bring their car in, and they paid the price.
