I bought my 2020 Platinum CM in September of 2019. When my subscription ran out I was disappointed to find out that my key fob DID NOT work, and didn’t for quite a while! I thought maybe I’d wait it out to see if enough complaints came in about the key fob not working without connected services to make a difference. It is, after all, a very expensive truck, and I didn’t think that the subscription expiring should disable the key fob, as it did with my truck. I tried it tonight after watching this video and reading the comments. It now WORKS!! Great information to know, especially since summer is coming! Thank you TD34 for the information and keep the content coming!

I’d like to say thank you so much for this video. That was one of my peeves about this truck that I did not have Remote Start unless I had to pay for the remote connect. I complained to the dealership and they didn’t tell me I had that option on my key fob and I called Toyota headquarters themselves and they didn’t tell me either . I paid a lot of money for the tundra and I’m not interested in paying a subscription. But here’s my other issue since my Remote Start problem is gone. The subscription for the remote connect keeps popping up when I’m driving my truck. Now, if I can get that to go away, I’d be really happy with this truck.

I use remote start a lot to get the AC going on hot days. Had to get the car coded at the dealer to open all the windows with the key fob as well (2019 RAV4). Connected services expired long ago but remote start with fob still works.

My 2020 TRD Pro, the key fob stopped working shortly after the subscription expired. It started working again within minutes of resubscribing. Really frustrating. Sounds like they have changed it after enough people complained. Point of fact, I picked my 2020 up on September 10th of 2019. I had it pretty early in the model year. So when my subscription came up, not enough people had complained yet is my guess. Just a thought. Thank you to all that complained loud enough! Hopefully I won't have to resubscride next year.

Maybe I’m missing something. Using the fob doesn’t use connected service. It’s not using an app. It just communicates directly with the truck. Why wouldn’t it work? My 2017 never had any connected services and the factory remote start has always worked.

Lucky you... did your Key FOB remote start not work anytime in the last 2 years since posting this video? I purchased a 2023 Camry XSE V6 fully loaded in Dec. 2022 and my 1 yr trial Toyota App Remote Connection had ended and was not able to remote start in Dec. 2023. I recently renewed the Remote Connection subscription and am now able to remote start again with the Key FOB or via the Android phone Toyota App. Since the 1st year was a trial, with the expectation of a price increase each year plus tax to $90 per year times 9 years is $810. Ridiculous that Toyota has to rip off people.

I spoke with toyota usa rep and the toyota remote services connect rep and here's the answer: your remote start is connected to your Safety connected services, not your Remote connect services (don't ask me why). As long as one of the trial services have not expired (3 in total), you will be able to still use your key fob remote start. Once ALL of your toyota connected services have expired, you will NOT be able to use your key fob to start your truck. Also, as long as you subscribe to one (any) connected monthly services, you will be able to use your key fob to start your Tundra. I verified this info with toyota usa and separately with the connected service dept/rep. Also, the connected service dept is a contracted company that has been hired by Toyota to run this service, so they are seperate from the Toyota USA reps. I was sent an email that my Safety connected services were being extended for 30 days so i could "consider" subscribing to the service. So that extended my key fob start by 30 days past my remote connect services experation date. So i thought i also had a working key fob, until one month later the key fob stopped working because my Safety connected services finally expired. That's when I made the call to Toyota and their connected services support. Just an update: i just tried my remote start and its working again. This is some crazy stuff. When my remote start stopped working i even took it to the dealership and they verified it wasnt working but that i needed to call toyota connected services. I did and they told me what i listed in this thread above. I do know that the toyota rep said they were getting alot of blowback from this key fob remote start "pay wall" so maybe Toyota decided to extend the service finally. My remote start hasn't been working for months, now suddenly its working again. Smh. Hell if i know whats going on anymore. Thanks Toyota for giving me back my remote start....but for how long? Smh

It will quit after free subscription expired on all models with connect. Is a way to get you to pay or pay during the months you want it. it can also depend on how dealership set account up sometimes they will add to subscriptions for a selling point. It’s all controlled through dcm. Tied in with SOS. Can call dealer with vin run through service lane see what is still active on subscription. Also red sos light indicates problem green sos light good. Red sos light can also mean inactive. There is so much to system it’s crazy. There are videos where people had videos of portable Xm units cancelled subscription had unplugged for year plugged back in have free XM because stopped sending deactivate single. There is so much to the system why audio units are 5k plus for new. Everything is remain when replaced. remote stats were same from 07 to 17 changed from 18 and again now with smart key. Can always use sos button ask to talk to agent see subscription updates and make sure they can give you your location and last 8 of vin.

I would tell the dealer prior to purchase, no remote start, no purchase after the subscription ! I paid $300 for a remote start on my 2019 Tundra and when unlocked, engine stays on unless I tap the brake. I am looking at the GMC 2500 AT4 because GM gives you remote start w/o a subscription. I miss the payload capability that I had on my 2004 Ram 2500 quad cab Off Road.

On the Tundra, when you remote start, the door has to remain locked and closed. Once you open the door, the engine stops. Then you hop in and start the truck like normal.

Toyota should be ashamed of themselves for putting out their crappy Remote Start Feature. Most Cars and trucks produced after 2020 have a hidden feature of remotely starting the vehicle with the key fob. No need to buy their $80. a year subscription via the app. BUT the key fob will only work for a limited time. Toyota shuts the feature down via satellite link after a given amount of time which can be one year ,three years or ten years. So Toyota deleted my ability to remote start my '22 Highlander Limited last week. What an unpleasant surprise ! After several hours investigating internet information I found that if you sign up for the "Service Connect" feature on their app it will allow the remote start feature to again work. No cost to the owner of the vehicle. The one inch thick owners manual has no mention of this. Also their remote start is really garbage compared to all other manufacturers. After remotely starting, if you unlock the car the engine shuts down. What the hell ??? Toyota, do better.
@wat3rdog253 жыл бұрын
Dear Toyota, I HATE subscriptions!!!!! Also to Toyota, I will not buy a vehicle with remote start that turns off the engine as soon as you open the door. RS should stay on until ready to drive unless of course you do something like press the brake to shift without the key engaged.
