You americans are so lucky. I don't understand why most americans insist stayint ignorant when they have access to anything. You have substitudes for anything, damn.
@nono-fo5ls6 жыл бұрын
Actually sometimes i do understand. Junk food is cheaper than vegetables there, as i know.
@jurassicjaws6 жыл бұрын
Yes, junk food is cheaper. I was homeless for a while when I was a teenager, and of course I didn't have a kitchen to store and cook my food in, so it was fast food for me. It wasn't willful ignorance, and the nearest Trader Joe's was over 100 miles away. I currently do volunteer work with hospice patients and I've met many families who have a home, but can't always afford to keep the electricity on. So, of course they're not going to go load up on fresh fruits and veggies if they cannot be stored properly. Please don't lump Americans into one big lazy and ignorant group so easily. It's very sad to read, especially when some of us ate what we did because it was that or go hungry at the time.

Not always true...

Your comment comes off as mean and ignorant... even if that wasn't your intention. Not all Americans are wallowing in money and are choosing to piss it away on 20 double cheeseburgers instead of spending it at their local farmer's market.

I love a lot of the stuff that Trader Joe's has. The only problem is they have so much packaging it's stupid. They really need to work on recyclable Packaging! ps. excuse my manners thank you for the great video LOL

@gomezaddams64706 жыл бұрын
Corinna Henderson at least not for fresh vegetables as much as possible I tried to buy them in bulk anyway because I eat a lot LOL. For all the goodies like the Curly Q's and the walnuts which even though I eat the walnuts just a handful in the morning I get the broken ones because they almost taste better and they're like a buck cheaper and I know it's only a dollar but it adds up! And then their pumpkin seeds are still the cheapest you're going to find anywhere and they're Raw I like raw things because it's got a little bit more nutrition in the nuts and things and I know about all the enzymes and stuff. but I do not consume enough to be poison. anyway for the goodies it's a great place they have something called soyrizo they put it in a gross tube so it looks like real chorizo. it's just hydrolyzed soy protein with a bunch of spices but I mix it with tons of vegetables and cook it up so use it like a seasoning with a little bit of texture to make taco filling and other Mexican Spanish type fillings anyway it's under $3 there. And I Do buy there raw sauerkraut that has a couple pickle chips in it because it's also around $10 in most of the stores and $3.99 there. That's a big difference if I'm not getting a chance to make my own. Which is not much lately because I have a muscle disease that came back as I got older I was born with it. Anyway that's neither here nor there. I talk a lot sorry LOL voice to text it's so dangerous! plus it gives you really bad grammar sometimes words are completely wrong I swear they change hours later LOL and my Punctuation is just laughable too! do you take care!

Recyclable stuff, tends to mean that stuff is packaged in a way that it's more likely to be opened and broken, like Amazon packs their stuff. Recycling is such a scam and waste of money. Everything goes to the garbage anyway. I'd rather things come packaged in a way that it preserves and helps protect the product. That should be the priority. Not how cheap of a cardboard they can throw something in.

Ooh, I love the stem part of the broccoli! It takes a little more prep than florets, but it can be a really tasty, tender bit of vegetable! If you ever buy, like, a whole head of broccoli, you can go ahead and cut off the florets, and then cut off the tough _outer layer_ of the stem. Then you can slice or julienne or whatever the middle part and cook with the rest of the florets (I love roasting my broccoli, it's so good ;-;). Definitely recommend giving it a try!

My boyfriend has a lot of food allergies, so we tend to eat mostly vegan foods. I knew Trader Joe's had many healthier options, but I had no idea they had so many options. That's a huge container of ice cream! For half the price of non-dairy ice cream at Meijer! You've inspired me to at least check out Trader Joe's. I haven't thus far because I was always told it was crazy expensive, but looking at the prices (which, thank you for posting those) and the product sizes, I think it wouldn't be much of a stretch for us. aldi is HORRIBLE if you want to get snacks. their snacks are incredibly unhealthy. cashew butter and almond butter is also sold in a small jar but for 5 dollars. to be honest, costco is worth it. they sell very large jars of nut butter for 3 to 5 bucks. and the ingredients are only roasted nuts and salt, meanwhile aldi's has added sugar (cane sugar is not vegan because there are crushed bones in it? sorry you have to research it to get more information) and added oils.

If you buy fresh broccoli, you're really supposed to use a peeler on the stalks, so that takes care of the toughness. Of course it's not practical to try that with frozen. And if you haven't had them, try the vegetable masala burgers. I don't use them as burgers but as a potato side dish.

I think rice has a bad image. Sure, white rice is basically just carbs. But wholegrain rice - particularly red rice, has a lot more going on. There's vitamins and minerals, fiber, and phytonutrients. The calories, well it depends if you need them. When eating a largely wholefood diet, I find some high calorie foods are useful. Wholegrain rice is adding useful stuff to my diet.

I'm guessing this video is focused on the not so obviously vegan things - so not talking about fresh fruit and vegetables. I buy big piles of those every week from the market, largely with no packaging, or minimal packaging. My packaging waste mainly comes from the other stuff that goes in to making fruit and vegetables in to meals, like herbs and spices, dried things like rice and fruit, bottles for oil or sauces, etc.

Marinara does not have wine or herbs or anything else in those families! I make my own I learned from an Italian grandmother when I lived in Italy. The only ingredients in a marinara sauce should be tomatoes olive oil garlic onion mashed up in the food processor salt pepper and a small amount of sugar as needed to balance the tomatoes. That's it that's marinara!! I looked at every sauce in Trader Joe's and they all had at least basil. My saw smells like an Italian restaurant and I could probably bottle it but I have no connections for that. I buy much of the Trader Joe's products that you have there.
