Probably the best video on youtube about the subject. Especially explaining how DIN and SAE dies might be required on the wheel cylinders and DIN used elsewhere.

Thanks very much for a very informative video. I have the same vice flaring tool as you and you’ve answered a lot of questions I had. I’m restoring a mk2 MG Metro Turbo and just needed a guide on which die’s did what. Many thanks 🙏

Very interesting tutorial, Chris. The only "but" I can say, is that I can't work at 5ºC !! My hands and fingers would not be agile to do a job like that...

Hi Chris, hope you had a great Christmas, great video but you drove me mad with SEA instead of SAE. I have both of the Sykes machines, the handheld and the vice mounted dial machine. I have had a problem with the dial tool as it will not grip steel pipe. Cunifer, no problem, any ideas? Thanks Mark

Steel pipe is a little too hard for the tool. If the tool is quite new have a word with the tool seller or Sykes P. on Facebook or phone them. I've had issues with steel pipe ends as well.

Mark Gardner Gardner: I'm sure as hell hoping mine will. I've just bought the Sykes Tool Master Kit 02700800 at the tender cost of NZD$986.85, because I wanted a top quality British made product that'll do all the way to 'Stainless Steel' (inclusive!) If it doesn't even grip steel pipes, apart from being highly pissed, and never buying another Sykes product again, I'd be getting the die mating surfaces, either surface ground or someone with a milling machine to take 2 or 3 thou off each face, until it did!

@@SeriousSchitt Thanks for your comment, I hope you have success with your purchase. I have quite a few Sykes tools and have always believed that the price reflected the quality but I have reservations on the dial brake pipe tool. Let me know how you get on. If I can be of any help purchasing in the UK and sending you please let me know. I would be happy to help if I could reduce your costs. Thanks Mark

Mark Gardner Gardner: Thanks Mark, you sound like a half decent fella. The other thing I was thinking is, have you tried to see if the dies from your Flaremaster 2 (which I'm assuming is the handheld version you've got) will interchange with the bench mounted one? On mine, I notice that they have an almost 'shot blasted' type of finish, and Sykes pedal it for doing S/S. I'm not quite sure what the finish on the vice mounted tool is as I haven't received mine yet, it's due in this Wednesday. One more question I have for you is, did you ever do anything about the problem you had with the turret tool not gripping the steel pipe?

@@SeriousSchitt I am having serious problems with my car at the moment but if you will bear with me I will send you some pictures of my tools. No, I have not resolved the steel issue as I only generally use copper. Thanks Mark

Hi Chris, I've read several times that you shouldn't use a single flare in brake lines. This would make fitting into the callipers (as you show at about 12mins in) interesting.... what are your thoughts?

The masterflare 2, does have the power to flare the original hard pipe under the vehicle? ( i was going to get the cheap ones but i am afraid they don't have the power to flare original pipes just to say i will flare only 2 pipes and will never use it again is worth to get the cheap ? is it good idea to connect the original pipe with a coper pipe? the rust is only for 30cm thanks

Geepers, just as well I'm supposed to be getting the"'Flaremaster" 2. Hopefully that one will be alright as I bought it to flare stainless steel pipe, as it states. Just eagerly awaiting it's arrival!
