That was my first thought but then it's in no way spoilery and takes nothing from enjoyment of the movie.

YES, I had been waiting too long for a Chinatown video. Next, Double Indemnity. I think a Noir special would do fine.

Chinatown rules! Greatest Polanski film, greatest Nicholson film.

I think its better than the Godfather. And its a disgrace it only won one Oscar. It has one of the best final scenes in modern cinema history. And the acting by the three leads is just about perfect. Polanski's direction and Alonzo's photography are simply excellent. And the music is haunting. The screenplay is a model for plotting and characterization. The John Huston character--modeled on the owner of the LA TImes-- is one for the ages. The whole water SF Valley scheme really happened.

I am probably the only one who thinks "Night Moves" is just as good.

You are right: "Night Moves" is also a masterpiece, a criminally underrated one. However, "Chinatown" has a small edge on "Night Moves".

probably?

@@ludwighampel1541 Chinatown better plot, more stylistic. Night Moves more moving parts. Both well made.

That's a great movie too...the anti--detective story.

Including the last line in a trailer - looks like this problem existed long before the current age when trailers are a lost art.
@jackanaples4 жыл бұрын
You'd think so, but not really in this case. The line of dialogue means nothing on its own. In the trailer it comes across as just thrown away. It's only with the context of the story that the significance of the line is apparent.

Unless you know the context it's meaningless.

They... seriously spoiled the final quote in the trailer...

What never gets mentioned is that Polanski rewrote Townes script. This is is why The Two Jakes with Townes unadulterated script is not good.
@lynnturman81576 жыл бұрын
Actually Townes wrote the original script. And then both Townes & Polanski co-wrote the shooting script based on the original script.

I’ve seen the screenplay before Polanski got at it. It’s wonderful. The main difference is she dies in the end.
