In our daily lives, we often live inside a so-called "movement box," meaning that the range of our habitual daily movement is limited. For example, we infrequently raise our arms over our heads, and we never bend sideways. However, for balanced physical development, it's important to maintain a full range of motion in all our joints, including our spines and shoulders.
In this short yoga practice, we focus on expanding our habitual range of motion while also training our balance. We emphasize the side-bending action and repeatedly raise our arms over our heads while lifting up on our toes. Once again, the simple and versatile Tadasana / Mountain pose comes in handy, this time with its lateral versions. If you have any issues with your shoulders, please approach this practice very carefully and only raise your arms to a comfortable height.
