I discovered your videos yesterday and it was instantly a click for me. Your skills are admirable and appreciate your work and transparency. Something that i dont get with many other channels in this category. They give off a sense of gatekeeping. Definitely earned my subscription man. Could you do a video on how you mix your paint from primers/epoxys, base coats and clear coats? So many people say to add 10% reducer to clear coat so it can flow out and go on flatter but you say not to. You're the first one i ever heard to say this. Even the old school guys say to add reducer. You work speaks for itself so how would you recommend it be sprayed so it can have a nice low peal and high gloss to it? I want to trust your word more than the others ive been watching for years since they have gotten too big to even interact with their comment section, i wanna ask before your channel grows alot more too. Also what does die back mean? Sorry for the long comment. Id like to pick your brain.
@thetriggerman9544 ай бұрын
@@latinprince896 Thank you for subscribing and welcome to the channel. And to answer your question some paint line manufacturers call for a small amount of reducer into clear. And that is fine The problem is when you have these clear coats that don't call for reducer and it just automatically becomes a thing to add reducer to clear coat that does not need it there are many other ways to get a flat finish other than watering down your clear coat, and those are all methods that I discuss throughout my videos. To an inexperienced painter Yes adding reducer to any clear coat will give you a flatter finish but it's not the right way to learn in my opinion. Adding reducer to clear coat that does not call for it will definitely give you dieback and dieback is when You finish clearing your vehicle It looks shiny You leave and come back the following day and the shine has dulled That's because you're reducing the solids content in the clear. You may be spraying a clear coat that has a 40% or 30% solids By you adding reducer to it you're turning that into a 20% solids which is not much protection. That's not the way I learned to paint therefore I will not teach it that way. But be sure to catch all of the videos sometimes there will be a lot of jokes and things along the way but In every video I leave you something to walk away with.

Always enjoy your paint videos Trigger. I am learning alot from your videos. I already bought Speedokote paint WA 59 926L for my truck but have not painted yet due to extreme heat (near palm Springs area) even though I have super slow reducer. The paint mixes 1-1. Have you ever tried it yet? Anyway, keep on spraying Trigger.

Thank you man, glad you enjoyed. No I've never tried any speedokote paint. I know most of their clear coat is acrylic and that's something I really have no interest in spraying. It looks good and shiny but does not hold up long-term. But I'm not sure about the base coat. And I completely understand about not painting because it's too hot, this shit is brutal 🥵🔥🥵🔥🥵

@@michaelsimmons9613 no problem brother. As far a the pearl and metallics you might just want to look through some reviews online. There are hundreds of different brands out there now and some of them are very good I'm not really up to par on all of them I'm old school only thing I've really ever used was House of color and PPG but they are very expensive and I know there are much more options and are equally as good but for a fraction of the cost. So I can get MIPA base that is about 60$ a quart or BASF for 60$ a quart (66$ but I get 10% discount) and there is even prefilled color from MIPA that will cost me 33$ a quart. 😁
