I had no idea there was that much bitterness in the end for Triumph. It's too bad. I loved this band. I'm in my early 50's now and I've see MANY concerts in my day. To this day, the Thunder 7 concert tour was THE best concert I've ever attended. Everything about it was spot-on....the sound, visual effects, lighting even audience response. These guys were top-notch geniuses and sure knew how to put on a fantastic live show for their fans. Thank you Mike, Rick & Gil....thank you Triumph!

That tour was epic. The following tour "Sport Of Kings" had a better show(That laser face in the opening was amazing in the 80's!) but they added a 2nd guitar player and I thought they were better musically as a trio.

It is wonderful that they are friends again. Absolutely the tightest live band of all time. 3 total pros. It is awesome that they mended the fences and played those reunion shows in 2008 together (plus the short set they did for their Banger documentary a couple of years ago).

I can say an amen! I know they are friends again....now it’s life getting in the way. I get it.....hard to believe they are grandparents now....so am I! Lol! They just need to come to the US, not just San Antonio....just bring guitars, amps, a drum kit and play. We don’t need the big stage bombs and smoke, that’s expensive. Just come and play. I heard someone say they are too old now! BS. Just make us smile again! God knows we need it now more than ever. I don’t think those Canucks realize that.

I can't believe how much their story is so close to Journey's! Very sad.... such a great band! I lost contact with this music for so many years, it is amazing to revisit! I love their integrity and honesty and will now be watching and searching for all I can on the web as I was a big fan and plan on renewing that bond. I always tend to takes sides of the lead singer, as Steve Perry is my heart and Rik was the Magic voice of Triumph!!

Allied Forces is such a great album. I see good balance between Mike and Gil's preferred style (Allied Forces, Fool for Your Love, Hot Time) and Rik's style (Magic Power, Petite Etude, Fight the Good Fight). Say Goodbye and Ordinary Man are so different yet they definitely sound like Triumph. What a masterpiece!

There have been some major and disgusting breaks ups in rock n roll. The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen, Motley Crue, etc. No reason why Triumph can't work it out too. One of these days, one of the members is going to pass away and the surviving two are going to totally regret it and are going to wonder why the business decisions came between them.

The Moody Blues are a different animal than Triumph but they were in the same situation. They didn't announce a break up but did solo albums and then after 4 years or so they got back together. Three guys or five together for so long as things change. But hey, they left behind some great songs. And I'm glad I saw them live. Break ups are hard and some leave estranged.

Like how the Beatles sang so many songs about love but had a bitter hateful breakup. Seems ironic that Triumph had so many songs about positivity and yet ended with it's members having bad feelings toward each other. It's a shame.

Saw these guys many times in the 70's and 80's. Best show for me was in 1978 (or so - it could be my Alzheimer's talking)... New year's eve show in Kitchener, Ontario. It was supposed to be Saga, Goddo and Triumph. Saga bailed and we got more of the other two bands. That was fine with me.

The only thing that matters to me here is that they got their friendship back. That's priceless. Their own little Boy's Club has reconvened. I have three Boy's Clubs that I wish I could pull back together, but I can't. Being the Mover, the Shaker, the Doer, the Giver, and the modest 'Success Story' of each, I was always somehow expected to do more than my share. I did, and then some. And then some more. And then some more after that. When I got too tired of always being the eager Draft Horse and the open Wallet, I turned off both to make the other club members step up to the plate, and the result _each time_ was they instead _sharply_ criticized me for such an action, summarily turned off the friendship, shut down the Boy's Club, dug a moat, and battened the door tight. Each time. After typing that, I have to say I wonder why I would ever want to go back, because the genuinely freely given 'Friendship' part of the membership was on my part only. _Each time_ it had a monetary clause attached, which effectively invalidated the Authenticity of the entire contract. My loving wife now protects me from the folly of those kinds of clubs, as she has been in her share of them, too. We now have our own club, and _both_ of its founding members pay their dues. Moral of the story is you can't _drag_ others up to your level, but they will try to _climb_ up you to yours. Don't be a ladder; that's what everyone's own bootstraps are for. I am now and for years been a part of another Boy's Club. The other two members are as loving, giving, and successful as me. There is so much more satisfaction in this one, and it is a relaxing atmosphere, as there are no extenuating clauses attached. Admission is merely a smile and a hug and a hearty slap on the back. Removal for any one is the end of this life, and the other two will most certainly be grieving pallbearers. Join a club like that. It has reward for everyone. :-)

Triumph were a great band in their time they were know as the poor man's Rush but they went head to head during their peak in 1984 but the album The Sport of Kings was the one that they slipped due to the record company and wanting to become something they weren't ,they tried to rebound with the great Surveillance album, but Momentum was lost and inner problems with the band started to boil over and after Rik left they tried to carry on but without their frontman it was the end of what was a great band, they did eventually get back together for a few shows on 2008,but nothing else materialized...they did have a good run and we still have the music!

Gil and Mike were very active on the business side of things while Rik was the creative force within the band. As a true artist Rik put musical integrity before commercial strategies and got frustrated by the dictating music business. The other two members just wanted to play rock 'n' roll and were able to make compromises more easily. It really pissed Rik off when the music company proposed the band to work with external music writers in order to score hits. Rik was always the man with a message and wouldn't just sing "we're gonna rock tonight" kinda lyrics like Gil did. The strange thing is that rocker Gil was always a very calm and static drummer while Rik would rock out and run up and down the stage ! Whenever I listen to my Triumph records I always go for the songs that were written and sung by Rik. He's a refined, multi-talented guitarist blessed with a unique voice and a great melodic feel. Triumph without Rik only lasted for one album, simply because Rik WAS Triumph. However, Rik's solo stuff isn't exactly my cup of tea and it rocks a lot less without Mike and Gil ...

a lesson for everyone here you can't put a price on friendship, music money whatever should never be allowed to get in the way of that. These guys obviously miss each other and want to be friends but pride anger bitterness over something that is past keeps them from renewing that friendship. There is only today tomorrow might never come and yesterday is past and can't be changed. but it can be forgotten. pride can be swallowed. bitterness can be sweetened once that's done anger can be calmed, somebody just needs to grow up here.

Like so many once popular bands, that at the end, broke up because of the negative animosity between member, eventually had reunions.., I’m sure the main reason has been financial… some made it work and some didn’t. You can read the stories of how disconnected the bands were behind the scenes, then they go on stage to make that coin. There were so many incredible bands in the 70’s and early 80’s, and Triumph was definitely one of them, but they just couldn’t keep that torch burning and unfortunately fizzled out…

Moore doesnt address Emmet's assertion of a handshake deal prior to the dates in contention. Moore doesn't say they got stiffed on the dates. He says' there was no money". He means that the Triumph co, that he seems to own here was still in the hole, after the run of those. If its true that Moore agreed to pay Emmet for the shows as an employee, then Moore has failed to pay plain and simple. Im sure that Moore is using a profit and loss scenario to say there is no profit to be distributed. So the question becomes, does Moore acknowledge the handshake deal. And the truth? I love Gil Moore from listening to his songs and singing when I was a kid. I played American Girls in my first band. The truth? Moore wouldnt have shit if it weren't for Emmet's songwriting and star power. Its Emmets commercial value that enabled the entire Triumph enterprise. I've play with guys like Moore before.

I enjoyed the 5 part series but wish there was a competent interviewer to ask follow up questions. For example Rik mentions that Gil bought out Mike and then bought out Rik in a take it or leave it deal. Then the big grievance was about money. How about fleshing that out a bit instead of glossing over that since it seems the crux of the animosity.

Nearly all bands have this type of divisiveness among members eventually. They were great, however, with Surveillance the formula sounded fatigued and Rik had music he wanted to make that wasn’t suitable for Triumph so I understand the split. I’m glad they have since reconciled though as they seem like decent people and it’s nice to end on a positive note for a band that made so much positive music.

The truth is that IT TOOK ALL THREE to make it happen. Gil and Mike wouldn't be anything without Rik, and Rik's solo career doesn't even come close to what he had with Triumph. Just goes to show it took all three.

@@acegibson9533 Amen. All of Rik's talent could have quite likely gone completely undiscovered if it weren't for the groundwork and connections Gil and Mike had already made. They had experience, understanding, a dream, and the determined focus to get there. Rik was the frontman vehicle that galvanized the vision. Gil had the drummer's seat more than ably covered, he had the business savvy, and the technical expertise to bring about the light and pyrotechnic show "extravaganza", as Rik put it. Mike had the cool bass dude persona down pat, the promotional street smarts and ability to speak anyone's language, never take 'no' for an answer doggedness, and an absolutely non-stop positive attitude. His relaxed manner grounded the band. Rik completed the triangle with his astounding musical gift and dynamic presence. It all boiled down to a formula that just plain _worked_ . Triumph would have never happened without the perfect storm these three exact, particular guys created. Everybody stop pointing fingers.

leaving a band like Triumph would always be a financial mistake. Rik didn't stand a chance of having the same success. However, he may have been much happier outside of Triumph. The guy has immense chops and I'm sure he earned enough $$ top be ok. Enough said.

Rick Emmet was Triumph. He wrote the songs that everyone sings, he played all the classic guitar parts...you can put any two guys with him during that time and it would probably be better. Mike and Gill was never what people came to see but they positioned themselves on the financial side of things to cash in at every turn. In truth its a shame.

Yes. Rik was the best talent and would have been successful in any band. Still, I loved a lot of the Gil Moore lead tracks and thought it was real cool to have a drummer and lead guitarist each lead sing different styles on albums and in concert. Also business and promotions wise, Rik seems pretty much like a Rube and naive to the business part and Gil and Mike seemed to know how the business part should go. It seemed they all had roles. It worked and it's not like they only last 5 years or something, and they have reunited a few times since this video.

Yet after leaving Triumph, and working with a number of others, Rik never had success again....the dynamic of the 3 of them having input on the music and direction of the songwriting is what made Triumph successful....and remember, Rik only wrote about 60% of their songs, Gil and Mike also wrote

@@TheCountofToulouse I'm guessing all the songs Rik didn't write about 40-45% must have been flukes....and if you listen to the last album without Rik, it still sounds like Triumph while Riks 3 solo albums sound like power pop meets folk....seems kind of strange the 2 guys you say, didn't contribute still sounded like Triumph without Rik but Rik sounded like the Cars without Ben Orr

Triumph and Grand Funk both wound up in the fucking courthouse. CCR, too. Why don't they have a school you go to to learn the BUSINESS of music? When the shit hits the fan due to burnout, or age or illness, the money will be all you have left 'cause your body and your fame will be gone. I'm a 65 yr old drummer who's played with James Cotton, George Strait and Johnny Rodriguez and I've seen it. It makes all the fun you have had a bad memory. GET IT ALL IN WRITING FROM THE GET-GO!!!

Ok guys, your now in your 60’s, none of you are starving, and unfortunately no one lives forever. You all are successful because of the hard work of Triumph, and your fans like me, are in our late 50’s/60’s. Why cant you just laugh...and get your shit together.....screw the past, just watch youtube and see what you were.... to us fans, and play in the sandbox again. Forget about the fight over the toys. Dammit I saw you guys in the Checkerdome in STL, something like 78/79. Ill never forget it. Just awesome. That building is gone....so soon relatively you and your fans will be too.Thats the world we live in. I can’t believe your pride means more than that. Would it not be fun to have one last , loud, crazy, f-you and the economics of the world........before it’s too late? Come on boys....all 3 of you. Stop it and your damn egos. Play for us again. We love you guys. You owe it to us......we made you what you are.....along with your God given talents. Never forget that.

No, what killed Grunge is Nu Metal. Society always wants new new new with everything. Look at today for instance, people are getting more nostalgic because the music genres that came out in the 2000's to today are not as memorable from before the 2000's. Everything is just copy and paste repeat. Nothing original anymore.
