I had to do something similar for my copperhead. She had half of the front of her face removed by a weed eater. After about a year and a half her only remaining fang got infected and it looked similar to mouth rot but it was around the fang and the tissue around it. Took me and my pest friend 3 hr. To complete what needed to be done. He held her while I was the one removing the old fang and cutting to necrotic tissue away. Had her on antibiotics for more then two months afterwords once ever other day. My girl is still kicking and loving life her new fang grew in and she acts as normal as she did when I got her from my neighbor with the weed wacker. Kevin I know it was hard to do, but you improved her life by doing what a lot of people wouldn't do. I tip my hat to you sir and my Lilith feel better soon. You have a great crew there.

Lilith biting the towel is like an infant biting down on things when it's teething because the pressure against the area feels good and helps to push the tooth (fang) against the tissue its trying to break through. I've kept reptiles for a while, not nearly as long as some but I wasn't alive back when Kevin started doing what he does. That said watching these medical videos somehow makes me empathize with these animals in a completely different way, seeing how vulnerable they can be to some of the same things we can be but also some very unique things put into perspective a lot. It's also nice seeing someone who isn't a vet able to pull this off, seeing that it is possible for someone without formal training to be able to help their animals which would otherwise have nowhere else to go. I don't imagine there are a lot of vets that have experience treating infected/inflamed venom glands in elapids in North America.

Glad everything went OK, hoping for a speedy recovery 🙏Good job as always, Kevin! Your knowledge of these animals and what to do, still amazes me. Get some more vids of Lilith when she's recovered!

I so enjoy watching you tending to your snakes’ medical issues, l like how you think about invasive treatments a LOT before you decide to proceed and then, you gather all the equipment beforehand and there is always a plan and everyone knows what to do. Also, with deadly snakes like the beautiful Lileth, the experience is always infused with a little nervous tension. Which is delicious of course!

I’m sorry this happened guys, I know full and well how stressful and disheartening these situations can feel when you first notice them, and start the process of treating them. I’ve had this situations like this pop up for me before with rescues, but I can only imagine how much extra stress you guys were dealing with on top of that when considering it had happened to such a dearly loved personal animal. I’m glad she kept a good grip on the towel so you guys could more safely work with her. I’m not fully experienced with venomous snakes but I am aware of how much procedure and knowledge even basic handling requires, let alone actually preforming any complicated actions like medicating or procedures. Even though you guys prioritized her safety and comfort as much as humanly possible, I’m glad you guys stayed safe yourselves. I hope she continues to recover well, and you see some fluid reduction in her eye, so she doesn’t get as upset next time you get her out to administer some meds. You guys stay safe, thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!
