SIMPLE AND EASY FIX! Thanks a million, Chris! I watched your video and must've had #2, a blocked or frozen flow tube (freezer was set to 7/7; coldest setting)? I let freezer thaw for just over a half hour with the freezer door open; Ice cube blessings were in the works: the cog then turned and did a full rotation (versus stuck and grinding noise), something clicked, old cubes were spit out, the arm then raised and water turned on and off to fill the "tray." Hallelujah and thank you!! God bless you for having taken the time to share your knowledge with the world. Grateful in WY, ff PS I now have freezer set to average coolness.

Hello, You cleaned the ice maker holder. Do you mean the ice bucket? I see you mentioned that you are getting water. However, what type of ice maker do you have? Do you know how to troubleshoot the ice maker or prime it to see if the inlet valve is working? Or you could just troubleshoot the inlet valve with a voltmeter or mult-meter. The only problem with testing the inlet valve is, you can only test it electronically. However, valves can still be defective because they can fail mechanically. Hope that helps.

Super video! I have a very old style Kenmore refrig. The ice maker stopped making ice. I have checked everything and believe I have a faulty water valve. Old # is 218720300. Wish I knew how to test it with say a multi-meter but don't. I did turn everything off, remove the water line at the valve, made sure it wasn't frozen or clogged. So, figure I have a faulty valve. I watched the gears turn and cycle on the ice maker and so far no water in tray. I'll wait several hours and if no water will order the water valve. Thanks again for confirming I went through most of the logical steps. Good job Sir!!
@chrisstokes20205 жыл бұрын
Hi, you can test it with your multi-meter by turning it to the lowest setting for ohms of resistance or you can use a meter with tone. Place the leads of your meter on one coil at a time (choose the one for the ice maker). You should get between 500 to 1500 ohms of resistance (or the meter should beep), which means you have continuity. That just means it is good electrically. However, a water inlet valve can fail mechanically (port is not opening or opening partially). HINT: There are shortcuts to find out if it is definitely the inlet valve, but I can give that here (it would NOT be fair to my students). Hope that helps. Thanks

This is a rock solid tutorial and the way this man speaks is fully understandable and it absorbs well. I did flood my freezer and shocked myself but we will see if we have ice cubes in a couple of hours. If you don't want to shock yourself, then unplug the freezer. If you want a tickle, at least keep 1 hand in your pocket. If you don't want to flood your freezer, do not adjust water pressure as your first order of measure. Water pressure also means "Water Level". turning that up will cause the ice maker to over flow. Ask me how I know. Liking and Subscribing

Thanks so much for your video! I’m addicted to ice and usually eat 8 to 10 (22 oz. cups) of crushed ice a day. My problem is my icemaker usually will freeze a new batch of ice within about 20 to 40 minutes, so I’m trying to figure out why it doesn’t fill up the bin overnight? I noticed the temperature was turned down about midway so the ice cream doesn’t get so terribly hard, so I decreased the temperature to the coldest setting since I heard you mention there’s a sensor that won’t produce ice if the temperature setting is too warm. Hopefully that will make a difference., but then again, it makes ice all day just fine. Another issue is that frequently there will be some ice in the bin but I have to manually push it forward because it takes forever to come out of the ice crusher dispenser. I can hear the spindle turning but it’s just not pushing it forward quick enough. Hmmm…any ideas? There’s nothing like an ice addict waiting for that ice to come out! 😏🤣 For those who might wonder, no I am not anemic. I am frequently asked that since it is sometimes a symptom when a person craves ice. 😄
@chrisstokes20202 жыл бұрын
I would suggest a couple of solutions for your ice maker issues. 1. Most refrigerator freezers need to be about 15 degrees or less to make ice. 2. If it is making ice only during the day (which is strange), I would definitely check the temperature inside the freezer. Also, about taking too long to dispense the ice from the ice bin, you need to remove the ice bin and dump the ice into a bowl. Then take a good look inside the ice bin & at the spindle (the arm that sends the ice to the dispenser) and ensure it is not cracked or ice frozen in the base. Lastly, a sporadic ice maker usually means the ice maker is about to stop working and will need to be replaced. That is if EVERYTHING has been checked (ie fill tube, temperature in freezer, etc.). Hope that help. Thanks Again & Be Blessed

Hi sir my freezer producing ice ,but the ice is not coming out.
@chrisstokes20206 жыл бұрын
Victor, if your refrigerator is making ice, but it will not dispense it through the door. I would suggest that you check a couple of things. First, the ice bucket to make sure it is not frozen at the bottom, this will cause it not to rotate the spindle which sends the ice through the dispenser door. Second, is the "Auger" motor working at all? The "Auger" is the part that (in most refrigerators is behind the ice bucket & looks like a fork) turns the spindle on the ice bucket. If the "Auger" is not turning, you need to find out why. This could be a bad micro switch, defective auger motor, etc. Hope that helps. Thanks Again

Ours is making ice it just won’t dump it into the ice bucket unless we flip the wire signal arm up and down. About a minute after flipping it, the ice will dump. About 2 hours later we have to remember to flip it again.

After defrosting the freezer, I discovered the problem was the water filler tube or chute that leads to the ice tray was frozen (the hole). I put everything back together and it's working again, BUT it seems to be taking a lot longer to produce the ice. What could possibly cause this? It's producing a tray (8) once every 2 hours give or take a short time... just seemed to be a lot faster before.

Glad we could help with repairing your ice maker and Thanks for the positive comment. If the ice is falling out of the ice bin. Is it because it is making too much ice then you and your family is able to use. If so, you can solve this issue by; turning off the ice maker when the bin is about 3/4 full. Some ice makers have an adjustment option too slow the ice maker down. However, most people just turn the ice maker off when they have enough ice and then turn it back on when the ice bucket is getting low. Hope that helps. Thanks Again

Great video! but hey I have a Kenmore 253.70443417 and the ice maker looks different, do you have information on that?

Hey Chris, I’ve got an older Kenmore 363 series side by side. If I hook up the wiring harness for the door water valve to the ice maker valve, I can force it to fill, and once it’s filled, it will make ice. It doesn’t seem to be calling for water, even though I’ve confirmed that the valve is functioning and the ice maker will make ice. Any ideas?

No problem, glad I could help. Yes, this is a common problem when a refrigerator is NOT making ice. However, EVERYONE automatically assumes that the ice maker is defective. Thanks

Hi Mr. Stokes! THANK You for the vids, awesome. Q: I have the same as in this video - my Q: is at the 4:10 mark you talk about the water pressure screw [+/-]. I have low or no water currently going into the tray to be frozen. Q:, if you turn that water 'pressure' screw to +, will that necessarily 'make' more water come out? OR saying another way, if you were to time it so you can turn that screw WHILE the 'call for water' is happening, would you see more water come in turning in the + direction (faster flow in that angled clear plastic shute)? Hope it makes some sense ;>) Regards.

Yes, #2 was my problem. Frozen ice tube preventing water to enter the ice maker on my Frigidaire Gallery side by side. BUT.. What causes the water in the tube to freeze?

Usually a defective inlet valve causing a constant drip. Hope that helps.

hey there. i replaced the inlet valve, when i turn the small cam wheel it brings the arm up and lowers it half way down and then stops. the wheels are not moving unless i turn them. what would you suggest to trouble shoot next?
@chrisstokes20204 жыл бұрын
If your ice maker will not cycle at all (or completely), you have a defective ice maker. You need to replace the ice maker. However, ensure that the arm is inserted correctly before you replace the ice maker. Thanks

Trying to fix indoor icemaker. Have replaced W10341320 Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve for Whirlpool & 628135 - Kenmore Refrigerator Ice Maker Motor Module Control and still not working. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Our ice maker works sporadically. My husband tried resetting the little button inside, but that didn’t make a difference. My ice maker is in the freezer, so I think that rules out reason #1. Perhaps reason #5 could cause intermittent work?

Thank you, Chris. My ice maker, once I turned the small gear to make it the arm start to rise, it just goes a small way and then "clicks" back down and never actually rises. How do I fix that?
@chrisstokes20204 жыл бұрын
If the arm on the ice maker will NOT rise completely. You have a defective ice maker, replace the ice maker. Thanks

Your video starts out right talking about the wire arm which should not be in the OFF position if you want the ice maker make ice. There is another possible problem with the arm that I have discovered. If one end of the wire arm slipped out of the small hole (on the near side of the ice maker), it will no longer turn the ice maker ON or OFF. I fixed the problem by re-inserting the wire arm into the tight hole and, VOILA!, the ice maker is back making ice. I would not have discovered this problem had an ice maker supplier not sent me a picture of the exact same ice maker that is in my Kenmore fridge.

I agree with you if the arm is out of position it will not make ice. I appreciate you adding value to this video by giving anyone that is trying to troubleshoot their ice maker. Thanks

I have an old Kenmore fridge. The ice maker makes ice but very little. The bucket never fills. What might be the cause of that?

I had to take my ice maker out in order to take the back panel off because I had ice build up that kept the bottom part of the refridgerator from getting cold. That problem is fixed. But after reinstalling the ice maker. It dont seem to work right. The control arm wont go down manually. I dont want to force. How do I reset the Ice maker?
@chrisstokes20204 жыл бұрын
You need to ensure that the arm is inserted correctly (check the arm for proper installation). How to reset? Is going to be determine by what type of ice maker you have. But, again if it was working before you uninstalled it. The problem will mostly likely be that the arm is not installed correctly. Thanks

Hi Chris,I bought my Kenmore model 10651335710 refrigerator in 2018 which is side by side. I had to call sears repair men twice to fix the icemaker after I change the water filter every 6 months and reset the filter indicator. Sears repair men changed the ice maker assembly that has the ice tray and water valve that they taught is frozen. Yesterday, I change the water filter and flush the system. I can hear the ice maker is cycling, but I do not hear the water is going to the ice tray in the ice maker to make the ice. What do you think is the problem? Can it be the front control board does not work when I reset the filter to signal the water valve to open to fill the ice maker. Also, does the six months indicator the light which turn red is based on the timer or water consumption? Can I change the filter in 5 months and rest the filter indicator? Would it solve the problem. Thanks

After rotating the small gear CCW and waiting overnight, it managed to produce once cycle of ice cubes. However, they did not fully rotate out of the ice maker. I again rotated the small gear, but this time, it would not stop rotating. The gear just kept going around and around. It would not make any more ice. Any ideas what to do now or what it could be?
