How To Install L5P Duramax Manifolds, Up-Pipes and Down Pipe!

Great video. For anyone tackling this job, here are a few additions.. Up-pipe to turbo pedestal bolts, work them back & forth to prevent breaking. It was well worth the time to pull all the exhaust studs if you have an E7 torx socket or something that will work, manifolds come out without pulling the shock. I pulled the driver side manifold before the up-pipe and had plenty of room to fish the up-pipe out instead of snaking it through the passenger side. PPE hardware is always a gamble on quantity & quality, plan on a trip to the hardware store. Kit does not come with egr pipe gaskets, local shop says re-use them, down pipe donut too. (jury is still out on that) Thanks again Truck Master for the video, alot of good info and visuals!

I'm doing up pipes on one right now and I tell yah no matter what I did, I broke 6 of the bolts.....😢😢 so needless to say, both manifolds came out along with the pedestal. Also does anyone else wonder what in the heck GM made those bolts out of?! Not steel, not stainless and not aluminum...

@drivebyracer14 got half of them drilled out and threads cleaned up. ARP bolts going back in along with wc fab up pipes, egr delete, cold side pipes, intake, and a new hp4 lol

Thank you great tips, just got done doing the same today. Yes it can be done, but you will have drank a lot of beer, cursed a lot and may have to walk away for a few mins. Very time consuming, I ended having an easier time than in the video for some parts and harder for others…. I pretty much had the phone next to me while doing it lol

I did this same job on my 06 LBZ years ago and will be doing the same on my 2020 L5P this coming spring. Really wish you would have let us have a before and after listen but thanks for showing us how its done. Edit: I will be doing the upgraded intercooler pipes at the same time.

Just did my manifolds, up pipes,down pipe and wherli fab high flow bundle kit and cp3 conversion on my lml. It was a nightmare but sure dam worth it!! All I hear is music out my dual 5 inch exhaust pipes Your vids are much appreciated man!

FYI...remove the egr and you only need to remove the 2 rear upper studs. While youre at it, throw that egr in the trash 😂😂😂

Remove the cowl and firewall. It is worth the extra time. Just a bunch of 10mm bolts. Spray all exhaust bolts with pb blaster.

Fuel lines on the drivers side not trans lines. Going through the process of doing ppe pipes and manifolds on my lml right now. I had to remove the trans crossmember bolts and jack it up a bit to slip the drivers up pipe between the cab and engine

With mine being “ liberated “ this process should go a little easier 🤷‍♂️ Have manifolds and pipes ordered, I’m debating on the rds 64mm or the stealth 67. May wait to do all at once, I know when I had the turbo off to give it full bald eagles, I could reach the top of up pipes no problem.

No the doc is right behind the turbo, you have to get a different downpipe that’s longer and remove the doc from behind the turbo to shave weight, that downpipe work with stock emissions

I can’t find a video of anyone pulling the cab off of one of these newer model trucks. I think that would be the way to go. Pull the cab pull everything off install everything put the cab back on done deal. That’s the video you should make pulling the cab for 3500 2021 truck pulling off the DPF turbo the downpipe all that crap and putting it all back together with all the new improve products that race trucks need

Man I just got news I have a manifold stud broken an they want to replace them all at the dealership but want 4000 to do it. Haven't been in such a low dark place in a while I'm laid off and told them to just throw it back together.

i’m sure you go it figures out by now, but pro maxx sells a template specifically for drilling out broken manifold studs. i got quoted the same price and said f that and bought that kit and drilled the stud out myself

Thanks for doing this video! Very much appreciated. My 18 Silverado Dmax has a major exhaust leak back there somewhere, so it appears this same work is in my future. I understand pulling the cab is the preferred method. It seems you might have experience using both methods cab on, cab removed. Question: What do you think about lifting the cab just a few inches without full removal? I'm wondering if even 2 or 3 inches would improve access quite a bit for someone without a hoist.
