Dope Era🤣, in what world do you live in. Doping is part of sport( its a business) more eyes on it, more money. Do you really think every record ever achieve in sport ( all sport codes ) are done natty. You have no idea that every superstar the world has seen past or present, were and are on the juice.
@Leslie-Risse3 ай бұрын
The comments saying everyone dopped at the time get me. No, they didn't all dope. A lot of them yes. All of the greatest ones, probably yes. At least a very high percentage of the successful ones of that time, yes. But you're forgetting those who didn't shine precisely because they didn't dope in an era during which a lot did. Doping was unfair to those, and doping still is unfair now.
@towhee74723 ай бұрын
The problem is, that doping was well known, systemic and tolerated. THAT is why everyone doped, who wanted to win.

I think your comment is also pertinent now as well as in the past, I love cycling and doping is even prevalent in the amateur ranks. I do not think it will ever change the reward for these guys must be worth the risk. I used to admire Lance and I feel that the doping is almost not as bad as his accusatory attacks on those that called him out, that is what truly made him a "bad" dude at least in my eyes. The sport is not made for clean riders to succeed I am not sure any professional sport is at this point.

Eddy got pinged on three occasions - two were dodgy tests and one was just stupidity. He wasn’t systematically doping in an organised way like Lance was, he wasn’t threatening half the peloton, he wasn’t paying people off, he wasn’t suing everyone with a negative opinion. Eddy also won a shit load more than Lance across multiple disciplines - like waaaaay more.
@chess7773 ай бұрын
Lance is still my hero and will always be. To be perfectly honest, lots of the pelotons most famous cyclists were doped like hell back then, yet Lance outreach them all. There's always a good-time for deep thorough reckoning but alongside that - a time for absolution. I've already made my peace with Lance.

Look at it from this POV. When Lance rule the sport. Car Sales in the USA decrease massively year on. People bought bikes. Hence why Trek is a billion dollar company today. GM like big pharma used the lobbyist system to influence government institutions to go after him. Why only him and not the others. Like Jordan for eq, Lebron James. Parties involve makes billions of them. As we all know by now. Doping will forever be part of world sport. Superstar athletes equals more money especially for the governing bodies.

Lance Armstrong.....what can be said great cyclist in his time , however the biggest narcissist bully in the sport . He personally destroyed many lives and careers of anyone how was ready to expose him. I don't think he deserves any recognition at present time , he made his decisions in the past and should pay for it for rest of his life . Going back to Jan Ulrich who he supposedly saved from his depression was all Lance's last attempt to convince the world he's a great humanitarian. It wasn’t his doping (they mostly all do that - especially in his era), it was the lives and careers he ruined with his bullshit. Most caught dopers of his era put their hands up, took the ban, and moved on as best they could - at worst, they blamed a contaminant of some sort to try to save face. Big fucking difference there.

Doping brought shame on the sport, not Armstrong. He was better at preparing for the TDF than everyone else, it shouldn't be any surprise that he also doped better. How widespread doping was in cycling at the time is evidenced by the fact that no one else was awarded his 7 TDF wins once they were stripped from him. To do so would have opened a can of worms that ASO didn't want opened.

If you check the official Tour de France results, “Armstrong” has won exactiy ZERO Tour de France races.
