'It isn't really high on our radar, to be honest'? Seriously?! Over 1,000 women murdered and it isn't considered a high priority? This issue is an outright scandal. Thank you so much for publicising this.

Stephen Harper is a disgrace. What a flippant comment concerning these missing women. It's nauseating listening to this individual dismiss these women as a mere afterthought. His track record speaks for itself, with these allegations proven: Since he became leader of the country’s Conservatives, the party has been fined for breaking electoral rules, and various members of Team Harper have been caught misleading parliament, gagging civil servants, subverting parliamentary committees, gagging scientists, harassing the supreme court, gagging diplomats, lying to the public, concealing evidence of potential crime, spying on opponents, bullying and smearing. Harper personally has earned himself the rare rebuke of being found to be in contempt of his parliament. A biographer of Harper's called John Ibbitson, concluded that “No prime minister in history and no political party have been loathed as intensely as Stephen Harper and the Conservative party.” My heart goes out to the missing women, but even more so to those left behind who are having to deal with not knowing what happened to their loved one's. 🙏

It breaks my heart that evil targets indigenous women to murder. Their vulnerability is sickening. It is far past time to assign equal concern for the indigenous peoples and not only provide them the means to thrive not just survive. Survival is as basic a right as there is. Any innocent human is entitled to be treated far better. It is shameful how horribly your people have been and are being treated. Have a wonderful weekend. 😊💖💗💞.. its so sad to hear how alot of fosters treat kids, and indigenous children are often treated badly anyway by prejudice people. I have 1st hand experience with this because my grandchildren, 7 of them are half white and half Navajo, and have been looked at weirdly when they're with me, and treated bad by other children. It pisses me off, because theyre kids, and we never treat people differently because of the color of their skin, or someone with a disability, we teach them that evone is special.

Unfortunately kids that bully other kids due to their DNA typically learn to think so judgementally by their parents or some sort of guardian.

Ya.. like she knew she was about to run off and leave her son with her brother. Triggered by the recent break up with her long time partner and father of her son. She became depressed, disillusioned, and wanted to disappear. 99.9% of the time I can’t stand how it’s always assumed a missing person “ran off” when they obviously didn’t, but this case really does point to that. Her brother, who knows her better than most others, and had the most recent interactions with her before her disappearance- made multiple comments about her comments to him that clearly struck him as odd and notable.. his gut was telling him (accurately) she was about to not come back.. why? Because she was in the process of choosing not to.. ie running off

What’s also disgusting and totally unacceptable is that yet another husband and father gets to just walk out on his family into the sunset and do whatever he wants, while everyone suffers. @@LotsofLisa Sounds like the mother was an alcoholic and she's also to blame. But, governments need to do more to make sure that foster care children are in a safe place, because a lot of them end up in worse situations than they were with their parents. I can't believe that no one on either side of the biological parents would step up and offer a home for these children. At least they would've been with family, even if they couldn't all go to the same home. I don't understand how family members can see and know about these situations and not step forward for the children..

I am ashamed of my country’s history with indigenous peoples. You mentioned the highway of tears and the residential school system. It really is just the beginning of a shameful past that includes the 60s scoop (removing children from homes and adopting them out to white families with no access to their family or culture),forced sterilization, broken treaties and terrible access to basic necessities like clean water and safe housing. It’s horrible. I try to use my privilege as a white Canadian woman to make sure people know about these things. New Canadians especially are led to believe that Canada is this great place without racism. We are multicultural in major centres but indigenous communities don’t have the same experience. We can’t pretend we have an enlightened country until genuine and lasting changes are made to make amends and reconcile.

How tragically sad that so many Native American women like Macky go missing without a trace & are never found! How does this happen so often to so many indigenous women? Is it incompetence & a racist lack of real effort by the police? Is it that horrible stretch of road & the many evil people who drive it? Is it lack of public transport options that mean too many people need to hitch-hike in order to get around & have a social life? Or is it that despicable criminals target this particular racial group of women because they know they have less chance of being caught due to police & media inaction & seeming lack of priority towards investigating or reporting these women's disappearances? Or is a disgraceful combination of all of the above? Whatever is going on, it is unacceptable that more efforts are not made on behalf of these innocent women by those in authority, in order to find them & bring them home to their grieving families!! I’m indigenous American, and the fact that people just don’t seem to care when people like me are murdered or go missing is really sad. It angers me that missing and murdered indigenous people like me are not a high priority! Like, seriously?! ‘It isn’t really high on our radar, to be honest’?! What a horrible thing to say! This issue needs to dealt with to prevent more cases like this from being regarded as ‘not really high on our radar’. Just like @Susan Hepburn said, it’s an outright scandal. On behalf of all the indigenous peoples of north, central, and south America, thank you so much for covering this case. Immaculate Basil, may you be found safe and sound. If not, I hope your family gets the answers they deserve. 🙏❤️

It really pisses me off that one person's life should be less important than anyone else's. Whether a high-flyer, a prostitute, a Reserve resident or street busker EVERYONE'S life is important. And no preference should EVER be shown or acted upon. I hope the answers finally come for Immaculates family ❤

I love your comment bc thats exactly what I thought. When a pretty (white) girl from the right side of the tracks goes missing its covered like crazy (of course it should be). But if its a prostitute or a difficult teenager with drug issues or indigenous/black etc... it seems that nobody in the public cares. But these people have families or people who care for them and want to know what had happened. Its tragic, doesn't matter who "disappears".

Is it just me, or does it sound like our lovely narrator is speaking much faster than normal? I feel as though she's being rushed through the story. Regardless, she continues to be one of my favs. One can hear the feelings of pain, sadness, joy, etc she feels while sharing these cases with the world. She has a voice that puts u at ease & somehow creates a peaceful atmosphere while she talks about things, people, & situations that are anything but.👏🏻

Very hard to watch. As a Canadian, and a proud one, this is *The Worst Shame* of our Country. We STILL have so much to atone for to Our First Nations Peoples. Their treatment has been mostly hidden by every government, regardless of party. Although Reconciliation is taking some headlines recently, I'll leave it to them to decide. The horror of mass grave sites of children from the residential schools has come to light. I hope there will eventually be peace for them.

For someone who “is introverted, stayed at home, didn’t drink, do drugs or party…” there’s a whole lotta parties and alcohol- It’s not clear whether it was a change of her habits and personality just prior to her disappearance or if it’s simply conflicting information in the narrative ❓

I’m disappointed that the police didn’t seem to be interested or put much effort into looking for her. She is/was a beautiful, strong lady that defied the odds, went through hell as a child and still she had it in her heart to help others. I sincerely hope that one day, Immaculate will be found and her family will have answers. 💗

Now they are still an embarassment to law enforcement for nit solving all the murders and disappearances of indidegenous women. The same for our country. I have a cousin that was murdered and no answers. Its just a no win situation for our sisters.😢

Very silly of her hitchhiking on a highway which is well known for missing women …. The fact she was also drinking would have made her so vulnerable. So sad….but why would she pick up a lift or even risk taking a lift from a highway with such horrid history ?! So frustrating. The Canadian authorities or government seriously need to do something in regards to this highway. Placing cctv in every entry and exit points possible ? The technology is there along with the reasoning behind it. I find it disgusting that they v chosen to ignore this ?!?!
@reneecaballero9624
@reneecaballero9624 Жыл бұрын
Who knows, it may be someone in the local government or several of them doing it, and that's why CCTV has never been installed and why the cases are basically ignored and both done. Most of the time when law enforcement make pathetic excuses, and don't do anything it's because they're involved somehow or they've been threatened by those who are doing it.

This sad story is presented with great sensitivity and respect to the victi7m and their family. This is not often the case with true crime on KZbin. I hate to be pessimistic, but the RCMP have had way more than their fair share of catastrophic failures when investigating cases of missing women, enabling serial killers to laugh at their incompetence and carry on with their activities with seeming impunity. . On the other hand, they have been catching dozens of international drug shipments. It's easier to catch a boat or air cargo full of gear. Priorities also play a huge factor. yeah? A long time missing indigenous woman has little appeal to the Murdoch press compared to a 200kg shipment of Colombian marching powder.

People who come from broken families, have drug and/or alcohol problems and make dangerous choices regarding their own safety will always be the primary targets for the world's predators. Always has been, always will be. The people who care most about their own safety will have the least chance of falling victim and the opposite is also true.
