Annoyingly, no. Most jurisdictions have an assessed rate and a market rate, and you pay taxes on the assessed rate. The market rate can be completely unrelated, but that's the rate you'd claim if you wanted to use your property for collateral for business loans. Not to give Don Jr. any credit, especially given his crappy attitude about the deposition, but that answer about GAAP is what almost anyone who isn't either actively in business school or a current accountant/former accountant would tell you about GAAP. I absolutely studied it in school, but I 100% remember nothing about it off the top of my head. Unless you have some reason to actively retain that information, you're not going to, and in the Trump's case they've got enough accountants they work with to not need to remember anything about GAAP personally.
