The Palmetto State Dagger is a $300 Glock Gen 3 clone with enough features and hype to make it the most anticipated gun of 2021. But is it really as good as they say?

Should i ever see them for MSRP or below i'll just buy 10 of them. Even if i just bury them for shtf, they'd still make a great inflation hedge investment. And if i can have a reliable gun in every room of the house and two in the shower, i'm basically an action hero. At lest so i was told...

@@mapled3135 in what world is $300 price gouging? PSA is one of the few American manufacturers with available guns right now, and that includes their ARs. I own 0 PSA products but it doesn’t take a genius to see that they’re basically giving guns away (per their mission statement. )

PSA had these in stock for $300 earlier this week, they just sold out really fast. As an alternative to both, the Canik TP9 Elite SC is fairly available and comes in less than $400, so that may be a good option for someone wanting something G19-ish but wants to save money. Really the main thing I get more and more recently is that Glock needs to get their act together and improve/innovate again. They've been making the same gun for 3+ decades now and the fact is that someone can make the same-ish handgun for half the MSRP. I might add that this is PSA's first polymer handgun so the fact that we can even talk about it vs the Glock is insane. Why DID it take Glock 5 gens to add slide serrations? Why in the world are they still using plastic guiderods and sights? There are still a ton of good reasons to buy a Glock (heck I'd probably tell someone to buy a used gen 3 before buying a dagger) but I honestly think if they don't start stepping up to the plate a bit more they might lose a lot of market share in the next decade. It's not 1995 anymore. Lots of companies make good polymer handguns.

I bought a $300 base Dagger model six weeks ago as a magazine-compatible companion pistol for my PC carbine. Since I am not a big fan of Glock's grip shape, plastic standard sights, or trigger safety bar, the Dagger checked all of my boxes for "something different" while using Glock magazines and being relatively inexpensive. I have been very pleasantly surprised at how well the Dagger suits me compared to a Glock 19.

I liked the MOS. Most people use that setup and have good luck. I prefer night sights and MAYBE a light. Anything more is just converting it to a home gun, but there are better home options (shotguns etc) so I had to move on from a RMR on a carry pistol, it has its uses maybe in competitions, but irons are more durable and time proven. I currently run a 19x, as a main pistol and have no regrets. I can still conceal if I need to, and I get the benefit of having a 17 grip. It's not preferred, but my god is it accurate and comfortable. AIWB has very little discomfort, but you get used to it. Overall I like the MOS system, but it's a useless feature for my preference.

Up until covid I worked at a metal stamping shop. We made a lot of AK receivers and PSA was one of the bigger companies that we contracted for. From my perspective, everything I touched, I looked at as if it was my personal and if it wasn't perfect (even if something was 0.0005 of an inch off I would scrap it. As far as 9s go, the company I worked for did not have a hand in this model. I'm sure it's a good quality piece, but we did have the contracts for the Sig P290 and P365 (9 & 45) receivers along with some internal pieces. I saved up for it and went to the "dark side". A lot of my friends and family prefer Glock over Sig, but this is what feels right to me for a carry.

Availability: Check Palmetto inventory at 4PM ET. That is when they put them on the web site. After I learned that I picked up mine on the first try. Mine has the trigger pin walking out. The trigger pin walks out to the right. I have a RMA from Palmetto already. Mine does not shoot to where the sights are. 3" right and 3" high at 15 yards from a solid rest. Tested with S&B, Federal, and Wolf 115 gr FMJ and IMI 115 gr hollow points. Accuracy: Not as good as my Glock Gen2 17 from 1989. Averaged 3 to 4 inches at 15 yards. My handloads printed 2 1/2 inches. Best accuracy with factory was the IMI die cuts. That is good ammo. Highest velocity with good SDs according to my chrono of many self defense loads I have tried. I will be glad to update this info after I get the DGAR back from Palmetto.

Well 8 months later and they seem to be a big hit... still tough to find in stock but they are staying true to the msrp. I'm just past 1,000 rnds thru mine. I have the FDE with raised sights, threaded barrel and the Vortex Venom.. $399 free shipping and came with the PSA soft case. I Haven't had a single malfunction and love it more every time I shoot it. I wasn't a fan of the mag well cuts when I first got it, didn't like the look and thought it was excessive but I have to say , they don't affect my grip at all and they ARE the perfect size cutouts for grabbing the mag. I went into this gun as a bang around gun to shoot suppressed without any expectations of it replacing anything I already own. It is now in my lineup and when it's size is compatible with carrying it concealed with what I'm wearing I don't hesitate to carry it. I've been nothing but impressed with this gun regardless of price.

Got mine in ODG with the threaded barrel, 2X-height AmeriGlo sights and the Noblex cut around Easter for $364. I sat on the fence for about 10 minutes too long and missed the Venom-equipped version FOR THE SAME PRICE (crying emoji). With a $128 TruGlo Micro it's still under $500. It's only been out to the range TWO whole times, for a whopping 250 rd. count. The trigger is starting to bug me and my brother detests it; I know this little gun will shoot wonderfully once I replace it. Still shoots pretty well, but the take-up is heavy and just... weird. That's my only complaint, but considering how many people replace their factory "Perfection" triggers anyways...

A year later, I bought one and I think they've fixed some of the issues. I got my Dagger for about $250 by buying the slide/barrel and frame separately. . My version is in FDE and had a threaded gold barrel (not my favorite). It is optics-ready (RMR cut) and has suppressor height sights. It has been 100% reliable and it's ridiculously accurate. I anticipated a terrible trigger. What I got was a meh trigger that, honestly, is a little better than my older Glock triggers. Frankly, if I had paid 450-500 for this gun, I wouldn't be disappointed. For the 250 I paid, I'm more than happy. It won't be my EDC gun. I mainly bought it for fun.

About one month after this review, these are getting restocked pretty often on the PSA website for $300 or $350 for the cerakote versions. They're still selling out quickly, but we're talking a couple of hours vs the six minutes that you had to deal with when the review was originally written. I easily got one in FDE ordered by just checking the website after 4pm est. Haven't actually gotten it yet, so I can't comment on quality, but it seems the biggest complaint in these early reviews (very much deserved) was availability, which is starting to straighten itself out. Don't spend Glock money on these. It's supposed to be a $300 gun.

I built a few P80’s and I didn’t like them. The frames never felt like they were up to the same spec as Glock OEM. I’m pretty handy with precision tools and although I got them to work, I would never call them self defense reliable. P80 has had several batches of out of spec frames over the years and their QC varies wildly. While I totally and completely understand the benefit of an unserialized firearm a law abiding citizen can assemble from parts at home, it just never felt like the quality and reliably was there. My P80’s were strictly range toys and learning tools to teach me firearms engineering, so to speak.

I bought one about a month ago. Yes you can get them as other have said when they list them from 3:30-4pm est every day. I bought the carry cuts model in grey for $349 and it’s been great! I did the $.25 trigger job on the internals and it totally smoothed the trigger out. I also decided to buy a Ranger Proof shoe for it. After installing it I decided to take it back out and return it as the drop safety was completely inoperable. The pull with the trigger was awesome but I didn’t like the fact that it disabled the drop safety. I told myself that I wasn’t going to wrap up a bunch of money in upgrades on a $350 pistol that’s basically a nightstand/travel weapon and it’s getting a olight and that’s it. I have been happy with it after 500rds. Instead of making the dagger something it’s not by changing a bunch of parts, I decided to keep it and also buy a Canik Tp9sfx for a range/comp pistol. Bottom line is it’s a good pistol especially for the price tag and you can get it for $300-$350. There’s no need to buy pay $500 for this thing and not sure why you would.

@@danielmoua7724 I shot mine loved it. If still wouldn't use i as an EDC. My thinking around firearms is that there will always be lemons. Glock makes lemons. There are glocks leaving the factory that will not work. There are Daniel Defense and Bravo Company that are just not going to work. Every company will create duds. However the more expensive companies have higher denominators. 1/100000 glocks fail vs 1/1000 Daggers. For an every day carry gun the denominator matters, for a range/competition gun it just doesn't. If you really can't afford a higher priced gun, take it to the range. My understanding is if it's going to fail it will either be in first 100 rounds or in the thousands. So if you shoot your gun at the range and it likes your ammo and you don't run into any major problems it'll probably be good for you. Whatever you go with I hope it works and I hope it makes you happy.

Recently got a P80 PFC9 and absolutely love it, just a solid pistol right out of the box. To be honest I’m thinking about getting the PF9, too. I was ok with mine too. Put an apex daek in it though. Not the forward set kit. Left all the stock springs too. So trigger pull is light. It’s quite good. The PDP might be as good. Never compared them side by side. But other than that nothing compares. It’s my favorite plastic gun. Low bore axis + excellent trigger = cheat code for shooting.

I'm confused why no one hasn't just waited till the dagger is in stock at PSA and have it sent to your local shop. You'd be out $330 for this gun and if you are on their mailing list they restock about every other week.

Aug 2023. $339 with 10- 15rd mags and bag. So far, I've put about 150rds through it and got dialed in, but the trigger is not great. (and I've been carrying a Gen1 M&P Sheild for years) Anyway, it is an easy fix and I am happy with the purchase.

Time stamp: sept 2023. This same model can easily be had for less than 300 beans. I purchased one complete frame ("lower") for 75 to FFL(25 IN FFL fee) and a complete slide and 2 15rnd mags for 188 to my door. Ordered a 18 buick light from scamazon and its just gonna be the bedside bump in the night piece. I dont have Frankenstein hands but im also not a glock guy (glock ergos, cant stand them) so im giving this a try, already loving it

Sad you are comparing a 300.00 gun to a 600.00 gun. I love my 400.00 gun with 10 magazines (5-15 round 5-27 round magazines) rmr cut slide and thread barrel) better than my 600.00 glock

Notice that Honest Outlaw said he wouldn't keep this gun. I think that statement alone speaks volumes about the Dagger 9. Most likely, you're going to spend thousands of dollars on ammo, so it might make sense to buy a quality gun that you really want to own rather than focusing on the cost of the firearm itself.

@H K You make an excellent point. The Glocks I've seen that look and feel great have been fully customized with a new trigger, front and rear sights, and guide rod, plus slide and frame work, all of which can add $1,500 to $2,000 to the cost of the pistol. That's way out of my league.

Most people who will buy this gun are too broke to afford thousands of rounds of ammo, don't care much about training, and are gonna shoot it twice then throw it in their glove box and forget that it exists.

I respectfully disagree.. he has extra large hands that’s why he’s not keeping it. Medium sized hand shooters will love this gun. I’ll be ordering soon since accepts all my existing Glock mags.. worst case I replace with Glock trigger.. still saving ton of $$$ and all my gear still matches up 💪🇺🇸

Bought a complete dagger slide with suppressor sights, rmr cut, and threaded barrel with barrel nut for $200. Fit perfectly on my polymer 80 lower. I was able to budget build a complete clone under $320 before ship and government touch.

Who the hell is selling this for $500+? I saw it on the PSA website the other day for exactly $300 on the dot for the standard model and $350 for the version with night sights.

This might be one of your only reviews I have a lot of disagreement with, but I have medium hands. I find the fit and finish, ergonomics and refinements in this to be extremely superior to any Glock or any other Glock clone I've ever owned or shot. Absolutely superb texture, rounding, grip flare, mag release, etc. Hands down the best Glock lower ever made. Trigger is shit, but fixed on my copies now.

Came back to this review after putting about 1000 rounds myself on one I picked up a couple months ago. I agree with you. I dig his reviews, but he had a real biased bug up his ass on this one. Everything about it runs perfectly. I reload and have put everything from screaming hot to powder puff loads through it, *trying* to make it malfunction, and it ate all of it without a single stutter. It feels great, points great, and after so many rounds and even more dry firing, the trigger is more than functional. Zero failures after 1000+, and I can group double taps in under 2 inches at 10-15 yards. It's my new carry gun.

@@thriwaway7865 fire it. It smooths out. It also doesn't hurt to just make sure you're accustomed to each gun you own. Everyone puts way too much stock in a good trigger. You can be a damn good shot with anything if you become familiar with it.

@@thriwaway7865 I should mention I'm in a very similar boat. 1911s, CZs, Caniks, all before I got a dagger. Was never in short supply of quality firearms. But the things the dagger has going for it is reliability and inexpensive. These are good things for me because a cheap, reliable gun is exactly what I want for a carry piece. Why? Because should you have to use it in a defensive situation, it'll be in lockup for 1-2 years (at least in my area) while the case gets sorted out. I don't want a safe queen being in some shitty police "storage" for that long. It'll get beat up, rusted, all that. Id rather have something where I dont mind it taking that abuse. So instead, I got really good with a dagger. I got 1000 rounds through mine now, and I can print very tight groups well past self defense distances simply from trying. I now have full confidence in it keeping me safe and at a great price point. A "meh" trigger also gets you *very* good with your other guns, so there is a lot of benefit to it. If you're thinking on one, go for it, my guy.
