My heart skipped a beat when I saw this. As an Armenian, we rarely see our culture/food talked about so this was so lovely to see. 🥰

Right !! Isn't awesome !! I grew up in Baghdad with big Armenian population, and my best friend is half Armenian half Assyrian, was always interesting to hear her talk to her family in both languages. I wish I went to church with her , but our church was on the opposite side of her town.

One of my favorite memories of grade school was that one of my teachers was Armenian and taught us about the culture, tragic history, and food. Also, I loved international day at school, it was my favorite time of the year to learn about countries and their food :)

Glad you guys enjoyed the Armenian snacks. My father was a chef at a famous Armenian restaurant in San Francisco. I'm Chinese, so was my Dad. He learned to cook Armenian dishes from the owner. Maybe you can find an Armenian restaurant in Japan. 😊

Thanks so much for introducing these treats from Armenia! I have never seen any foods or snacks from Armenia and this selection was fantastic. I like the fact that they tend to not add sugar to their products so you can taste the natural flavors of the ingredients. I hope to order this box soon. Take care and enjoy your week. 🤗❤🛫🙏🌎

I imagine that first item, the tisane, was fantastic. Ziziphora is also called the blue mint bush, so that's where your odd minty taste came from -- it's considered a medicinal plant in some places. Stevia contains naturally sweet, non-caloric chemicals (and is widely used as a sugar substitute here in the US). Thyme goes well with many herbal infusions, and strawberry is always a winning flavor to me. In that part of the world, thyme black tea is popular. I got my paws on some a while back, and liked it so much that I ended up hoarding the one box of 20 sachets for nearly a year, because I couldn't get any more. Yes, you can eat the pumpkin seed shells, and they actually better for you that way -- you get 5g of dietary fiber per 28g serving, instead of just 2g fiber per same-size serving for shelled seeds. It's a bit of a mandibular workout, but worth it! The walnuts and dried fruits looked so, so very good. I'd probably want to have them together! I'm glad to see dried fruits with no added sugar, too. That sour lavash is another fine example of Armenian fruit skills. It's kind of the original Fruit Roll-Up! See: www.atlasobscura.com/foods/ttu-lavash Thyme is also pretty good by itself as a tisane. I need to try it that way more often! The purple fruit bar is for "Energia" (Energy) and the orange one is for "Immunitet" (Immunity). Please try making the Ant Farm Cake, sometime! It sounds so fun! I'm a fan of granola, especially the loose, unsweetened sorts like the one you tried here. (I think I even saw a pumpkin seed in the mix!) That BBQ Chips bag has me so conflicted. It's ALL in Russian, see, except they did the top part of it in Russian Comic Sans and I am laughing my tail off. Also, the top bit says it's... uh... Finger Shashlik (kebab-eque?!) flavor. Heh. Satoshi, I'm with you. I also do not enjoy any sort of gummy candies... too chewy! The triple heart chocolate and watermelon lollies looked so good. I've never had chocolates with peach and walnuts, but I am drooling a bit just thinking about the flavors! So, was the pure chocolate bar 100% chocolate, or was it sweetened -- I've had 100% cacao bars (Ghirardelli) and it is not at all bitter to me -- it has a little acidity and an inherent sweetness I love. This was certainly one of the most interesting foreign-snack shows you guys have done in a while. It has definitely made me more curious about Armenian cuisine, though that might not be so easy to get where I live!

Pumpkin seeds are big time snacks in the middle east ... We make fun of our grandmas and aunties when they bring out the seeds, we know some gossiping is taking place (and spilling out the tea while dipping in mint tea !!) During Lent/Christmas/Easter we have a lot of dried fruits serving plates when you don't want to eat cake or cookies.

Grand candy is something that every kid and adult knows from growing up in Armenia. They even have humongous stores u can go sit in since they make poncheks too. My favorite chocolates tho that my family bring back to America are Pandas, they come in a big packet but our wrapped in pairs in adorable packets. It’s like M&Ms but complete round and just softer ( and tho I grew up in California for my whole life I prefer these than M&Ms)

Y’all you can 100% eat pumpkin seed shells as they are soft enough to chew properly. I’ve been eating pumpkin seeds with their shells since I was a toddler! It’s fine! All these snacks look delicious! I don’t think I’ve ever had Armenian snacks before but I’d love to try them! Especially the dried fruits!
@HayTatsuko3 жыл бұрын
I'd never even imagine losing all the nutritional goodness in those pumpkin-seed shells, the same way I wouldn't peel a kiwifruit (though I do scrub some of the hairs off!). Most of the fiber is in the shells/skin!

The dried fruit crepe looks similar to "fruit leather", which you can make at home. Just cook and puree fruit, spread it on a plastic lined baking sheet, and leave it to dry in a sunny place or a warm oven.

As an Armenian I am SO excited and happy to see you guys trying some of our foods! Not to be a debbie downer however but also as an Armenian, I think they could put way better options. At first I thought you guys got some snacks from a viewer, but it's nice to see a curated box from other regions of the world ^^ I have always eaten the pumkin seeds without the shell and never thought of trying to do it with the shell. i have dried dragon fruit, and i'm not really sure how to eat it, because it's "crunchy" and not soft like i was hoping it was going to be, maybe pinutbutter on it? we call those pastel thingies fruit leather. the watermelon loli brings me back to a kid when I went after the ice cream truck. My good hummor one would sell candy, and all i would want is a little watermelon loli.
