I think what the guy was trying to get at when he said “goten is a failed Gohan” is that when Goku died, Gohan had to fill the main character role. Which then meant that Gohan’s role opened up and Toriyama made Goten. (Imo it could’ve just been Trunks to fill that role but anyway) Since Gohan couldn’t fill the role of main character, Toriyama brought back Goku and that shoved Gohan back into his place, and shoved Goten off of any pedestal. It wasn’t that Goten was a failed Gohan, it’s more that Gohan was a failed Goku.

As much as I’m conflicted about the Zamasu endings, just having it all end with Vegito dogpiling on Zamasu would be so underwhelming because it doesn’t fit narratively. As weird of an ending as it was, having Zamasu win and thrive in his nihilistic dystopia was a much better ending. It felt like one of the few times the Z warriors genuinely lost their plot armor. Contrast that with Broly which is a much simpler more self-contained story that had a very satisfying payoff by having a fusion kick ass. People need to keep context in mind. Plus it’s a Gogeta post ToP too.

I like this videos cause you eleborate and show a good side of critical thinking. Just to explain with what I said in your video I was saying exploring more into the Saiyan race/ galaxy would be cool (end with Goku and Frieza fight). I think it would progress every character, have a way better plot relevance, but essentially it’s just repositioning the arcs. Let’s say Z would’ve been Saiyan saga, androids saga, buu saga, and then frieza saga although it just occurs while finding out about saiyans and going up against this guy who is also afraid of majon buu. Say goku beats all of them with no transformations except maybe kaioken but when he fights frieza then ssj is introduced into the story. Just helps with people whining about transformation bloat, power level going haywire, and it keeps everyone in the cast relevant of achieving new skills or power

I'd say her biggest issue is that she wasn't given strong enough direction with her voice acting on Kid Goku and Kid Gohan. Not to say that she was bad at voicing the characters, but she could've done much better. In fact, she has done better with other characters. Her Luffy is just as good as, if not better than, Luffy's Japanese VA at voicing the character. Colleen's Jet Gatling is one of the rawest moments I've seen in any anime and it gets me every time I watch it.

The special techniques in all of dragon Ball (z or super) are nowhere near as explored as they should be. There are definitely some interesting ones like kaioken or evil containment wave, but a lot of them we see once or twice during a season and never again besides one call back in super for each. Going further on your Gowasu/Zamasu take, imagine if Gowasu saw that Zamasu was obsessed with Goku, then they used the time rings to watch the entire story of Dragon Ball. Then Zamasu comes to the conclusion that Goku is actually pretty selfish at times, and the fact that someone like that is praised as being a “good” mortal would eventually turn him over the edge. Imo it would create a stronger connection to the main antagonist, and he’d be able to call out his selfishness, and would push Goku to introspection.

To be fair to the Japanese Voice for Goku being “bad”, their voice actor is in their 90s I think. Sean is literally a lifetime younger, so he can pull of those voice acting strains like the screams objectively better than Nozawa can. I will say for me, I think Sean’s voice for Goku has actually gotten a little bit worse over time, starting I think since around the Battle of Gods movie. It just sounds either too high pitch and goofy, or when he’s doing the angry screaming, just cracking completely and not even sounding like Goku anymore. I guess that’s MY hot take.

Many other martial artist just straight up do superhuman things but call it "Martial arts" Yujiro, Garou etc. You don't realise martial arts isn't just what we see irl when it comes to fiction.

In Dragonball Ki is a high tier martial art ability that humans need to put a lot of work into to train and use, whilst aliens and such are somewhat just born with it.
