They didn‘t file for a patent in the US, only Europe (as they didn’t expect it to take off) and when their product became widely known, tumblr just patented it in the US before Horl did. (Paraphrasing a comment by one of the owners in a german thread)

Good video. I talked to the Horl people at a knife fair in Albacete in Spain last year. Though I use whetstones for kitchen knives and lately the KME for folding knives, I did like their system. Of course, the angle will vary a bit on blades with a strong curve, but I felt confident enough to recommend it to a friend, he bought it and seems happy with it. The Horl 2 is the one to get.

Thanks for this comparison, I’ve seen the Tumbler advertised like crazy lately on social media which is often a dead giveaway that the product isn’t great. I’ve been looking at the Horl 2 but wondered if the extra cost was worth it.

I've seen both, but have seen more tumbler. It's not bad and I've had zero issues with the magnets on the Tumbler. Just as strong as the Horl. I got the Tumbler and bro got the Horl. It's a moot point. As far as the Tumbler knife.. mine did not come with one. That said, both sharpeners will have issues with knives like that. Just place the handle on a cutting board to raise the blade up higher. I do like the Horl having options to change the stone on the reverse end. That is nice. 👍🏻
@andrewjay7962

@@BadCo1999the Tumbler is just a rip off of the HORL(which came out 30 years ago). Whereas the Tumbler came out a year ago. Cheaper stones, cheaper magnets, everything is just a cheaper copy. Not worth the $100 it costs plus having to pay for the Strap

Yea, its nutty expensive. Sorry but 200 for a pice of wood with a magnet and then a round stone with a bearing isn't worth it.. id need them to tell me why it's so much money..

@isfiyiywafibc6qaiiiiiiiiii570 Жыл бұрын
@@Ryan-re1rs it's 3x the cost of a good quality whetstone and cheaper than some much more expensive whetstones. Good quality stones cost money, this takes two stones and puts them into a highly convenient form factor. Not only that, but things made out of solid wood with some precision (the bearing doesn't wobble and is concentric with the wood) manufacturing do cost money. While I think Horl are making good money on this, I don't think their margins are much larger than that of the average cheapo sharpener company.

The Tumbler works great. I have one and I sharpen all my knives, including paring knives and pocketknives, with it and they come out very sharp. The Horl in your video is $429, another $139 for the Horl Premium Sharpness Set for the other disks, plus tax. This ends up being $614.86 on my check out page. This leads me to believe that you were given the set to use for making a video. It is like comparing a Geo Metro to Roll Royce pricewise and saying the Rolls is a better value.

I have the Tumbler which was given to me to test and it works but takes a very very long time on anything dull as in 450+ on the BESS scale on my edge tester. The magnets are definitely weak so I needed to hold the handle firmly. Good review. Should be noted the base HORL2 cruise is $139 v $98 for Tumbler. The HORL2 pro you showed is $429.00. I confirmed with HORL directly their legal teams are involved re: Tumbler but details are not being released (which is normal).

The points what this dude came up with and the fact that all of them got absolutely proved just made me realize even Horl 2 is literally at least 3 times better and twice as reliable. So either Horl 2 cost you 200 bucks but worth about 450 or Tumbler with it's 100 buck price actually worth about 25 bucks. In either cases Horl 2 is just a way better buy anyways, you just get a lot more out of your money. Thanks for the honest video!

I got the tumbler to see if I would like the rolling system and I do. now that I know I like the rolling system, I won't mind getting the more expensive option when I can. I have used the "pull through" system before and I hate them and would never get nor recommend them. The same cannot be said about the rolling system. Ok so are the planetary gears for the like 3 to 1 ratio and better build worth the extra 200? Idk I just have lots of knives and little time..... I can sharpen knives but its time and mess I already dont have time or a space for. I ordered one today and im hoping it can just speed things up because everything else other than stones is absolute garbage.

Why wouldn’t you be able to sharpen a folding knife ? Blade too low on the magnet like you showed with the smaller kitchen knife? What if it’s a broader blade like a Civivi Praxis? Or a fixed blade like an ESEE 4 or 6?

Man I wished I saw this video before I bought the tumbler. I purchased my tumbler in the middle of June and sharpened 3 knives. As of today 8/26/23 the tumbler doesn't spin at all.
