CHOCOLATE?! I had Japanese curry years ago and absolutely loved it. I could eat it for the rest of my life. That was at Disney world believe it or not and no where since then have I been able to find that perfect curry again. I've tried the roux's and always found them lacking "something" I assumed it was the Japanese sweet potato but now I know. It must be the chocolate. I could literally cry.

Thank you for another great video! I have been making these for awhile but wondered why the taste wasnt the same! maybe one could add a tiny bit of sugar if they like the sweeter version. but what a great idea...the Ketchup and MSG mayo must be why it wasnt quite the same?! LOL. I use ketchup and Mayo for dipping french fries or just mayo with a little cajun spice seasoning is great with sweet potato french fries! I also have added shitake mushroom powder to up Umami in my hubs vegetarian Onigiri. I keep a jar of powdered dashi and shitaki for adding that little extra to foods. I always get great ideas to enhance my recipes. Love you both! Be well.
@StraightUpEats4 жыл бұрын
Hey Creative! Good to see you again! Yes, it’s just not the same when you make it home, right? It’s definitely partly the ketchup and MSG mayo, haha! But also the soy sauce and dashi powder! When you combine them all together, it’s like magic in a bowl! Oh yes, I’m all too familiar with the mayo & ketchup dip! In fact, where I’m from in the US, people dip their boiled crawfish into it, haha! Hey, that tip for shiitake mushroom powder is genius! I bet it just adds SO much flavor! Mayb using that in this tuna mayo onigiri will make them EXTRA delicious!

@@StraightUpEats I hadnt even thought of it for crawfish but then again I don't like crawfish anymore only my boys eat crawfish now I will have to tell them to try it next time they eat it since we all love a good mayo dip. Since we are going into winter season I would love to see some hot pot and soup idea videos! Like Korean Jeongol made three ways Mandu (만두 전골), Bulgogi jeongol then vegetarian option like a veggie Dubu or a Beoseot Jeongol and a video on a Japanese Nabe or Shabu Shabu 3 ways! I am trying to move more of our meals to easy options like Jeongol during the week where we can all sit and talk while the food simmers and offer with Banchan. Love your recipes! ( also would love juk recipes vegetarian and meat) Options if you do not have a hot pot or a donabe? would a Cast iron pot work?

I have so much trouble with the shaping. It just turns into a blob. Keep practicing I guess. Great recipe will be trying soon!
@StraightUpEats4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel! Are you using short-grain Asian rice (preferably Japanese rice)? If not, that could be the reason why the shape doesn’t hold together. If you are, you might be using too much water on your hands to shape the rice, but honestly, that won’t be the main reason why your rice doesn’t hold together.

Yah using sushi rice that we buy from the Asian food market (I live in Australia). I think I just need more practice and perhaps more patience!
