Hello Ken , yeeees mmmm Onigiri 🤤I love Onigiri mmmm thank you for making these. I've always have a problem wrapping these beauties, now I can wrap them the way you have it, it's much easier for me . You know I'm going to try and make the Japanese mayo and see how it turns out will let you know. Your Onigiri is really full of tuna yes it looks so delicious never heard of adding ketup though will try it. Maybe when I visit you can make it for me as well. Love the foodie humor 😂it's always such a pleasure to see creativity from you and Mrs eats. Until then my saying Always keep it simple , keep it fresh and always cooking . And be safe love you guys 😘

CHOCOLATE?! I had Japanese curry years ago and absolutely loved it. I could eat it for the rest of my life. That was at Disney world believe it or not and no where since then have I been able to find that perfect curry again. I've tried the roux's and always found them lacking "something" I assumed it was the Japanese sweet potato but now I know. It must be the chocolate. I could literally cry.

Thank you for another great video! I have been making these for awhile but wondered why the taste wasnt the same! maybe one could add a tiny bit of sugar if they like the sweeter version. but what a great idea...the Ketchup and MSG mayo must be why it wasnt quite the same?! LOL. I use ketchup and Mayo for dipping french fries or just mayo with a little cajun spice seasoning is great with sweet potato french fries! I also have added shitake mushroom powder to up Umami in my hubs vegetarian Onigiri. I keep a jar of powdered dashi and shitaki for adding that little extra to foods. I always get great ideas to enhance my recipes. Love you both! Be well.
@StraightUpEats
@StraightUpEats 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Creative! Good to see you again! Yes, it’s just not the same when you make it home, right? It’s definitely partly the ketchup and MSG mayo, haha! But also the soy sauce and dashi powder! When you combine them all together, it’s like magic in a bowl! Oh yes, I’m all too familiar with the mayo & ketchup dip! In fact, where I’m from in the US, people dip their boiled crawfish into it, haha! Hey, that tip for shiitake mushroom powder is genius! I bet it just adds SO much flavor! Mayb using that in this tuna mayo onigiri will make them EXTRA delicious!
@ShamelesslyCreative

@@StraightUpEats I hadnt even thought of it for crawfish but then again I don't like crawfish anymore only my boys eat crawfish now I will have to tell them to try it next time they eat it since we all love a good mayo dip. I was thinking to make this in the Musubi Press, sort of like a rice sandwich. The Merciful Algorithm brought me here, this seems like it might be better. I have that plastic press, too! If the Tuna was prepared dry ("soboro") it might work. Hm. Well, rice balls it is!

@@StraightUpEats Yes I have. I remember having onigiri from Asakusa when I visited my relatives living in Japan. But when I got back I couldn't make good onigiri. I didn't know how to form it either so the video really helped with that. I also didn't know that that's the type of mayo to use. I only ever used Kewpie for dipping or sandwiches.

Since we are going into winter season I would love to see some hot pot and soup idea videos! Like Korean Jeongol made three ways Mandu (만두 전골), Bulgogi jeongol then vegetarian option like a veggie Dubu or a Beoseot Jeongol and a video on a Japanese Nabe or Shabu Shabu 3 ways! I am trying to move more of our meals to easy options like Jeongol during the week where we can all sit and talk while the food simmers and offer with Banchan. Love your recipes! ( also would love juk recipes vegetarian and meat) Options if you do not have a hot pot or a donabe? would a Cast iron pot work?

Hi Rachel! Are you using short-grain Asian rice (preferably Japanese rice)? If not, that could be the reason why the shape doesn’t hold together. If you are, you might be using too much water on your hands to shape the rice, but honestly, that won’t be the main reason why your rice doesn’t hold together.
