I have a Canon vixia hg20 the problem is that it came out in 2008 so of course they're not going to support a 12 year old camera but it's hd and it has a 60gb hdd so I don't care about replacing it

Apparently you can't turn any Canon camera into a webcam. I've been using my Samsung Note 10+ and it works really well, but after seeing this video, I thought I would go to the Canon website and see if the software was available for my old Canon XA20. It's not, so my old friend is still parked in the corner of the room looking like it's sad that nobody wants to play with it any more. In it's day, that was a pretty expensive camera. I was excited for it for a moment. But thanks anyway! Great video by the way.

I ran into this problem too because my G12 had no utility software listed on Canon's website. At around 2:58 Brendan says the App is not camera specific so I downloaded EOS Utility 3.10.30 for Mac OS X and it worked! Hope this helps, and thank you Brendan.

Hi Brendan. I do live streaming here on KZbin and it is certainly a learning curve. Just a few tips are to sit the laptop on a box or taler stand and setup the camera to eye level in front of you. In doing so it won't look like you are looking down at people but rather at the same height. Having the camera off the table and on a tripod is also better as the table vibration is eliminated. The background and face lighting is also something to look at in order to raise the quality/value. Keep up the great work.

I use a Camlink 4K for this, well done Canon for providing it free. can you also record with it at the same time as web camming? It's good the AF box doesn't show, thats one issue with the Camlink that's only solved by going into manual focus. Usin the Camlink means I can also shot wiith a second body and tether it via Lightroom, wors ok and is stable

I have searched for a long time for a camera that produces high quality video and sound and can focus well zoomed in really close that can also be used as a web cam or can be connected to a monitor while recording the video and none of the hundreds of cameras I have looked at so far fits in that category. I don't recall the model but I was looking at a Nikon DSLR at Best Buy a few months ago and it was priced above $5000 and yet despite all kinds of amazing features you could not connect it to an external video screen so you could watch as you make a movie. If this actually works then I don't need to spend more money than a new car to just do something as simple as be able to see my own face in a view screen I don't need a microscope for.

Do note that it doesn't work with all Canon cameras. My M6 isn't included, but the version 2 is. There's also the limitation that batteries may run down during a longish meeting.

@@BrendanvanSon I got it a couple of days ago, kit works fine with my RP but the original M6 doesn't. That's a real shame because the M6 is so tiny, it's a far more sensible camera to use. And I can get a mains power pack for the M6, so the battery problem would go away.

I've now found a power adaptor which has a dummy battery that goes into the RP, and then you connect a large USB power bank and the camera can stay powered for ages.
