Thank you for this great information! Does it degrade the video quality at all to go from the camera to a standard USB port?

I'm not sure what you specifically mean? Generally speaking the quality of the Canon EOS Utility Webcam capability is pretty limited and note even HD in it's resolution. I would always choose a HDMI capture card (even cheap ones are really good nowadays: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHyXmZuYlsmEh6s ). Hope that helps you.

Hey I'm a couple of years late to the party, but I cant get OBS to see my camera for some reason and I'm not quote sure why. Ive got the camera plugged in and can get OBS to see the Canon software, but it gives me a screen that just says EOS WEBCAM UTILITY with nothing else, no video feed. Im using the Canon GX7 mark 2 which is supported supposedly but can't figure it out. Any help would be awesome

hi, awesome video. i am currently using the Canon EOS Utility in OBS. i don't get to use the audio from the cameras mic in OBS. i looked thru @ least 50 videos & finally found your video that describes i think is my issue that there will be NO audio from the cameras mic in OBS. i bought a shotgun mic that i use in OBS but i would prefer using the mic on the camera. as i am using this in OBS, i do see on the EOS utility the mics bars move up and down as i am speaking but yet i cannot use the actual mic in OBS. & also, do you think this may or may not be something that someone from Canon needs to update or someone from OBS so when i do use the EOS in OBS, I can to use the mic from the camera

Hey Karen Williams, your assumption is mostly correct already. The Canon EOS Utility does not support the audio coming from your camera mic. That's just not how Canon has implemented it at this point. The way you are using this setup right now it will always just give you the video signal. So now you have two paths you can take: a) you could buy a cheap HDMI capture card like described in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHyXmZuYlsmEh6s b) you can use the shotgun mic connected to your computer in some way (depends on which mic you bough) and then sync the audio and video source in OBS. @@ChrisSpiegl thank you very much for responding. i was trying to get the part about the capture card in the orig message but for some reason, it wouldn't let me ask the whole question and i kept trying to do it over and over again. yes, i was going to ask you. if it's just a video capture card, will it still record the audio or does it have to be a video /audio capture card. i really like the mic on the camera and got the shotgun mic for it. you are such as smart person. everyone keeps making videos just on the EOS Webcam alone & you after weeks of looking for this answer, answered it. i was think about calling Canon about this but you seemed smarter.

@@karenwilliams2613 the capture cards usually support audio and video - the one I have does. It may depend on your camera. Some cameras do not have a “clean HDMI” output. So that’s something to check before hand. But it should work.

I saw a lot of videos people connecting their canon t5i to obs as webcam or live remote shot and picture is very smooth, but when i do that and want to livestream i have a lag on video , any solutions? Thanks anyway

I can not really speak for the Canon T5i since I do not own that camera. If you are experiencing a lag, most of the time that is due to insufficient CPU/GPU power for whatever solution you are trying to work with. Maybe try closing resource hungry programs? I don't know 🤷‍♂️. Other than that I don't really have an idea.

I'm still stuck at eos Webcam utility, on a Mac, I've done everything and even updated firmware on the camera and nothing seems to work I have a rebel t7 help please 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Hey Chris, do you know if there is a hack to removing the autofocus box (while keeping autofocus, ie not turning it into manual focus) when using Canon M50 and the Camlink?

Hi Sarah, sadly that is (as far as I am aware) not possible with the Canon M50 and the Camlink. The best option with the M50 is probably to bite the bullet and either use Manual Focus or the Canon EOS Webcam Utility USB connected option.

to remove the auto focus box turn your lens to MF instead of AF. also in the settings turn autofocus off and youll be good to go.

Yo bro I’m using cam link with usb c to hdmi cable with my G5 X Mark 2 and I’m getting black screen/no signal in OBS idk wtf is wrong. I have proper cables and yes camera model is comparable. Any suggestions???

I don’t understand exactly. You are connecting usb-c to the camera? The g5x does have a micro HDMI port and a micro USB port. You’ll have to connect the HDMI port yo the cam link. Then the cam link via usb to the computer? Should work out of the box.

in my case the useless powershot sx530 sh cant be used as webcam. the cam itself is an amazing product but canon is stupid enough for not given us the software for this model in particular.
