Everyone posts strategies, throws and tips for short judokas, but they don’t realize that tall people also have a time throwing shorter people. We have to go down lower!! Thanks for the video for tall people :)

You're right Mark. I'm tall and have always had to modify my techniques to work for my height.

You are most welcome Theodore. I am tall also and, from my own experience, as well as coaching and observing others, these are the throws that usually work best for tall guys like us.

This is awesome content!! I've been waiting for something this detailed!! I'm a Judoka who cross trains BJJ and was having trouble dealing with BJJ guys with the bent over position. Loving this right now lol.

Glad it is helpful to you Marcus! We've had some requests to do a video like this and there was little else available on the Internet, so something like this needed to be done. Thanks for your comment and please tell others about our channel.

I noticed there were a few knee drop throws put in there. I've been told a lot that as a tall judoka I shouldn't be doing knee drop seoi nage if I don't want really bad knee problems later on in life. What is your opinion on this matter coach?
@welcomematstevescott5 жыл бұрын
Good question-thanks for asking. If you do the knee drops as we show, where you spin under your opponent and corkscrew into the mat, you will not get knee injuries. I'm 6'4" and used the knee drop throws shown in this video a lot in may career with good results. The conventional wisdom that tall people can't do knee drops is based on the "flop and drop" style of doing a knee drop throw. We have a playlist on our channel that shows quite a few knee drop throws that can work for you. The really good thing about dong knee drops as a tall athlete is that nobody expects it for the very reasons you have been told. I would use a knee drop Ippon Seoi Nage as what I call a "change up" move much like a baseball pitcher would use a slider or curve as a change up from his regular pitches. Often, I would use a cross-body O Soto Gari or foot sweep as a big move and would use a knee drop every so often (and often catch opponents with it) as a change up. Hope this helps!

@@welcomematstevescott yes that helps a lot! thanks for the reply! You should do a breakdown on how to corkscrew into the mat. There are very few people who actually explains how to drop properly.

Thanks for your comment-I hope these technqiues work for you. We have a fairly extensive amount of information on corkscrewing to the mat on our videos on knee drop Seoi Nage. Check our playlist titled Seoi Nage and Knee Drops.
