I love that it took 2000 tears for Pious to prep the spell to summon Ulayoth, but it took Alex 20 minutes of running around a city she just found out about a week ago to summon Xel'lotath

+JasynSuin That line that Alex said was familiar because Pious said it at the beginning of the game.
@JasynSuin9 жыл бұрын
+JasynSuin Matt's way off at the end; you never summon Mantorok at the end, because he's already on Earth, imprisoned and slowly dying. However, he's been orchestrating everything from the beginning, including Pious summoning the Ancients; each playthrough is a different timeline, and at the end of the third playthrough, Mantorok combines the timelines so that the other three Ancients kill each other simultaneously. Basically, the entire game is Mantorok's multiversal long con to get rid of the three Ancients he's supposed to keep in check. It's never stated what, if anything, Mantorok plans to do afterwards; he may not be able to do anything because of what Pious did to him, he may go back to the semi-benevolent relationship he had with mankind before, or he may do something a thousand times worse than what the others would have done.

One of my favorite games of all time. The gameplay left a lot to be desired but, there was so much else about the game that worked, one of those very rare occurrences where the gameplay in a videogame being bad DOESN'T break the game. The story, the voice acting, the mythology, the music the sound direction, the atmosphere all made this an incredible game to experience. It's a shame Shadow of the Eternals will likely never be made but, I would love it if Retro Studios took up the reigns and made a sequel to Eternal Darkness.

TheNaraShikaku The controls and the gameplay mechanics? Based on watching these videos, it looks quite clunky and unintuitive, He's saying though that the atmosphere, the concept, the designs of the enemies and environments and the story, among other things, more than make up for it.
@dontmisunderstand60414 жыл бұрын
@@TheEditedOne I'd say the main problem with Eternal Darkness' gameplay is that it's a bit *too* intuitive at times. Almost everything is so simple that you question whether that could ever be the solution. I think that point is illustrated quite well by this playthrough of the game they've got on video, where almost every point they get stuck at, they arrived at the correct solution immediately and then just didn't go through with it, so got stuck.

DARKNESS FACT Nintendo owns the Eternal Darkness IP, not Silicon Knights. They re-registered the trademark in June of 2013. Is a remake on the cards?
@lylatfox410 жыл бұрын
Mal Nexus wrong there aswell, a eternal darkness trademark was filed, around the time there were heavy rumors that silicon knights were communicating with nintendo again, then SK lost their court battle with epic and had to pay back millions, soon afterwards alot of things people who researched on it found out that Sk consisted of about 5 people as everyone else had left to find other jobs because SK was just flat broke. Because of the massive debt SK put on themselves, the deal fell through with nintendo, that demo they had for spiritual successor of SK was the one they made earlier and showed to activision(which they were puting out shovelware xmen games for to pass the time working on that demo) it didnt work out so they turned to kickstarter.

i have to say pious got it the hardest of all of them. he was forced to serve the ancients because they used their magic to infect his mind and make him subservient and loyal, while also granting him power. its not specified what kind of person he was before the transformation but i bet if he knew as much as alex, edward and max, or even just elia, karim and anthony and the likes, he wouldnt have tried to touch the artifact. they enticed him in with their words and their promises of proving himself, and i bet in his mind he thought he was doing this for his god, not them. however, if theyd have given some indication that he was a dick before he became a lich, that would have demeaned his character and would have been super lame but that would also mean he deserved it, so he didnt get it the hardest. but because they dont say that it means he did get it the hardest having said that, its VERY clear that of the darkness fighters, not including pious, anthony got it the fucking hardest. he literally went from normal guy to rotted husk, and that was in a few short hours! he lived for centuries afterwards! ellia might have also rotted for centuries but she had a duty, while anthony was just suffering. i bet, like matt said earlier, guys went into the room where he was to just wail on him with their fists or weapons or magic when they were in a bad mood. they even jammed a ruby into his eye! and given the groans he gives he was clearly in a LOT of pain, possibly even feeling himself rotting. not including pious, anthony truly got it the worst. even harder than ellia, who rotted for millenia because she was guarding a heart, even harder than karim and bianci, who were trapped as spirits but was guarding a essence, even harder than luther who just got stomped, at least it was painless and he didnt suffer outside his natural lifespan, and even harder than max, who everyone thought went mad (even matt and pat) so they locked him away even though he did the right thing.
@Zosalot8 жыл бұрын
Pious WAS in the same situation as everyone else at the start. Besides that, he chose to inflict this suffering on countless people and gave no hint of remorse or wanting to escape. That and everyone sensed something clearly evil about the artifacts when Pious just didn't care. So while I feel he deserved what he brought upon himself due to his blatantly selfish and cruel actions, I do think he was a great, 3-dimensional, complex villain. Haha. Just throwing my two cents in. I agree with everything else you had to say. Especially Ellia. She didn't seem to be in any pain after the initial attack from Pious and she had Mantorok to chill with.
@lordlossize8 жыл бұрын
Zosalot well everyone else got the tome of eternal darkness, which allowed them to see and know that what they were fighting was evil. pious never got the tome so he could only assume he was doing it for his god, not xellotaph, ulyoath and chutturgah. plus when he was inflicting suffering on others he was a lich, and under the complete and unyielding control of the ancients. he probably did want to escape but couldnt because his mind was warped and twisted to be evil
@Zosalot8 жыл бұрын
I didn't get the feeling he wanted to escape/was under 100% control of the gods. The game is well written and I feel if that was the case then it would have been brought up or conveyed in some way at least once. Besides that, Mike could tell the artifact was evil before he got the tome so I think it was something in your humanity like a sixth sense that told the fighters of darkness the thing was evil. Also Ellia had touched the artifact and she didn't go completely evil. Just gonna throw in that I love Pious. I think he's a great villain, but I feel he was in control of his own actions unless there was something I missed. I keep my mind open if you think I made a mistake. :)
@lordlossize8 жыл бұрын
Zosalot mike knew it was evil because he was told by the guy in the pillar that it was evil. and ellia didnt go evil because mantarok wanted her sane so he didnt corrupt her.
@Zosalot8 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Good points! I still feel there'd at least be a line of dialogue if Pious was being possessed/controlled. I do 100% agree that his sanity degrading over the years to serve the gods makes him a tragic villain. It would also be hard for him to return to a normal life in BC times looking like that. But he did choose to do these god awful things to millions of innocent lives and for that I have a hard time sympathizing with him. (Though in his slight defense, he did try to spare Ellia and he didn't mean to curse Anthony. lol) (On a side note, thanks for taking time to reply/talk with me about Eternal Darkness. XD Nobody knows what this game is and I've been going nuts not being able to discuss characters.)

"It's concept... like dramatically out-stepped their ability to deliver it." This is EXACTLY how I feel about Silicon Knight's "Too Human". I REALLY like that game and believe its highly underrated. However, as much as I enjoy it it could've been WAY better than what is now; the final product. It was supposed to be a trilogy and even with all of the flaws in the first game, I'd still buy the second in hopes they've improved. Welp, so much for that trilogy... Poor Dennis Dyack... lol.

And I like how the plot ended up unwinding. It turned out to be very thorough. I kinda saw Mantorok coming,(out of his tentacle-tips) but it was still awesome to hear it. And I wonder what NASA thinks about these 2 gigantic behemoths battling in space :) Unless they teleported to the wrong galaxy or something, and we don't even know they're there lol. Dude, Alex should destroy the city WHILE Xel'lo'tath is bound in it, so nobody can go to the rune towers to un-bind her. Totally fail-safed.

I think Micheal's chapter was the coolest conceptually. He didn't ASK to go to the Forbidden City. He wasn't FORCED to go to the Forbidden City and he wasn't drawn into the city. He was just a fireman sent on a mission to put out oil fires in Kuwait during the Gulf War, and he just so happened to get trapped in the Forbidden City while doing his job...
