I just didn't want 4 or 5 more years of payments.. I now have 160,000 miles on it and have only 3 things go wrong. The blow off valve, the evap purge valve, and the electric boost controller and that's it!! I just put a timing belt, water pump, tensioner and clutch ( the clutch still had 40% left at 130,000 mi ) all of which was less than 2,000 parts and labor. So it should be good for another 130,000 miles payment free driving.. hope this helps you out in you decision..

Dear Hyundai Veloster N Division, I hope you are reading this. Here are some Cons I would like to address. 1.) There’s an excessive glare on front windshield. 2.) Cabin noise from road. 3.) Please add heated seats and heated steering wheel. 4.) If heated seats can be added, why not add ventilated seats, global warming is increasing the temperature and it’s very hot/humid during summer. 5.) Plastic interior feels and look cheap for a $34K car. I hope the 2022 model addresses these Cons, if not I will go for Mazda 3 Turbo hatchback instead.

Your thoughts on how the Veloster puts power down coming out of corners reminds me of how my mk6 GTI behaves (also equipped with brake actuated limited slip). If you drive like a ham-fisted yobbo that treats the throttle like an on/off switch it is about as happy as you'd expect, but with a smooth throttle foot and sensitive hand it has a surprising amount of grip for driving out of corners. The only time I ever manage to get any wheel slip is at high steering angles at low speeds in second gear on really tight backroads, and even then there's no push; the "e-diff" does its work and the car pulls like it should. A lot of people bad-mouth these brake based limited slip systems but I find them to be surprisingly effective with my only real criticism being that they don't provide the same amount of tactile feedback to the driver when they're working as a real limited slip differential. The cars I've driven with torsen type differentials up front kind of tugged at the steering wheel a bit when they were working, with the GTI I have to listen for the inside tire to slip/stop/slip/stop as the brake pulses. Thanks for another great review, if I wasn't happy with the hot hatch I already have I'd probably have a closer look at this one. I'm not too excited for the mk8 GTI as I'm not a fan of nearly every function being behind a touch screen.
@BrianMakse4 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed. Hope you stick around. Brake-based faux-LSD/anti-wheelspin systems are generally the cheap way out and they seem to skip steps in development before they unleash them on customers. The only decent ones I've encountered have belonged to McLarens, but I'm pretty picky.

@@psewgobind true, but you want an FWD car to rotate. in general, even in the wet, a more stable FWD car is actually slower through corners.
@psewgobind4 жыл бұрын
@@BrianMakse For me, causing the FWD to rotate unnaturally, even it gains some time on a particular track is handicapping the car (cause it'll probably be toxic in the next race track and streets). If it can go full throttle on the sweepers, then the rest can be compensated by brake technique. Front drives need a front end that can bite-in during braking, which requires it being nose heavy. The side-effect is a planted rear-end and full throttle in the transitions. When I see a front drive 3-wheeling it around a turn, I view it as a complete fail. I'm constantly seeing pro racecar drivers trying to make a front drive behave like a rear drive, which is plain wrong. The car just needs to be driven differently.
@psewgobind4 жыл бұрын
@@BrianMakse I had a race prep'd NB Miata all over my ass on the twisties, but slower on the straights. My current k20c2 is stock setup (except brakes and rpf1's), but you're right...even with mods, I don't think I'd ever get to that Miata's level in the twisties. However, transferring weight around before the apex or forcing a drift, is still too much fun to handicap the front driver's natural ability. I'd move on to an RWD vs dumbing it down.
